I vote for Austria as i've never been. Merely in a supporting capacity as not sure I've got an IM in me quite yet.... Anyway i'll be up for a holiday in 2018 for sure
If Barcelona not popular Austria would be a good alternative - but how quick does it sell out ? This year European ones sold out quite quickly well within a couple months
Can I just say, that this is exactly how the whole decision fell apart last time.... we didn't get to agreeing on who was making the decision, and got distracted by what the answer should be instead.... and months down the line, no single person or group of people was able to make a decision that people could confidently get behind, and start entering.
So, we've had several suggestions above...

A vote publicised on here
A tot-up of preferences listed on this thread
Can I suggest that start by nailing this down, and then people can start lobbying for their preference(s) as they see fit!
Sorry if I sound grumpy, but this isn't going to get sorted unless we actually get our shit together!
EDIT: cross post with the ones above... looks like we are in agreement about getting this sorted first!
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
All Doodle poll does is count it up for you. A vote is a vote. If the majority want to vote here, and someone wants to trawl through the thread and count it up then I'm happy to vote here.
I think the decision is more important than the method, location or popularity.
Last year IM UK was chosen via a thread, then people procrastinated and started to withdraw, will these people be voting this year? Will the people that voted for Henley in 2013 but didnt enter, leaving about 7 racing get a vote? I don't mean this as a personal criticisms, but highlighting some of the pitfalls.
My concern re the process of deciding is on the basis that only two years has there been a bit of a hiccup (2013 & 2017) coincidenatally about the only years we didn't make a collective decision at an event or the event was simply chosen and promoted by a small but visible group.
Once a decision is made we need to stick to it, get behind it, those contributing need to recognise they have a duty to commit and persuade their pirate friend that they want to do it to. The old adage 'you know you want to' works well, but if all else fails get people to agree when they're drunk
We do need to accept there won't just be one big outing, that the champs event won't suit everyone. Many years there have been 2 or 3 well attended events in which the champs wasn't the most attended. Thinking back its only been 2009 & 2012 where more than 20 or so pirates race at the champs, so if we're going into the selection even expecting a turn out of 20 it's a high bar and perhaps unrealistic.
Ironbaws - sorry if this sounds a bit petty but shouldn't the vote be just for people actually competing at the champs? I totally get that the supporters are needed but they can't decide where the majority race can they??

Ha! Maybe we need 2 votes, a competitors vote and a supporters vote
i know the saga louts want a rematch so I've no hope of retirement yet
I'd vote for Wales. Fantastic atmosphere among the best with it possible to do with just a day off on the monday.
Tenby is also good for a post race party!
The link could be posted on here and then results shown.
Options to do 1st & 2nd choices and tally the results. With closing date clear.

How about the Nantwich Super Sprint ?
Sounds far too sensible, what on earth are you thinking?
Try this, everyone who wants to race gets one vote, name your race, and we keep a tally.
I'll start
IM Wales
Works for me... its a nice clear decision.
Suggest we set a closing date of end of Feb. Venue with most votes by then is chosen.
