Wow, I've been missing all the excitement over the past few days while being in a remote part of the Cape with no mobile coverage and barely workable internet! It's great to see how all of this is coming together!
I hope I've not missed anything important re arrangements. Mr Zuvai and others (I think) are planning on dinner tonight once I have arrived back at Belaire with Debra and my friends Jock and Karen, all from the same Dubai flight. Not quite sure how we'll connect but I'm confident it will work out.
I hope to meet some of you at the airport arrivals. I'll wear a Comrades cap with a Lowrez badge on the peak. Debra, Jock and Karen all know me anyway!
I hope you've all had good travels and that early arrivers have already been having a great time.
Safely at city lodge. Met a few people on the flight courtesy of your patches lowrez. Thanks again. Will see a few more tomorrow either on the bus tour or at spigas.
Buses leave from outside the Expo. I see there are 'light refreshments at half way (Drummond)' rather than packed lunches at Comrades House, is this new?
Debra, Jock, Karen and I will be in the Belaire lobby at 8pm. Mr Zuvai, where can we meet you and /or others? Plan is about 500 metres walk to the restaurant at the Elangeni / Maharani hotel.
Nice seeing various of you today! Comrades runners collectively ate every snack on board the flight from Dubai today and drank them out of water! Captain and cabin crew both wished all Comrades runners well in their end-of-flight announcements, which was lovely. Now for SLEEP, then breakfast at a civilised hour and a car-tour of the Comrades route with Mac3 tomorrow.
Good to meet you all last night. Yes, we all love pasta! Just been out for 5k along the promenade - beautiful morning for it. Lowrez, you should be about to land in Jo'burg? I hope you've had a good trip.
All went reasonably smoothly for me, expo visit done & dusted at lunchtime. Didn't get much sleep on the flight so early night in store, planning to head to the parkrun in Umhlanga in the morning then.
The Eagle has landed - I forget how many times I have walked between terminal A and B at Joburg today, miles and miles, a standoff between SA and Air France (who don't bother to get out of bed until 2pm) ended up on a BA flight, missed the expo competely, may need to skip tomorrow's tour because of that, and to top it all the Hilton only have me booked in for 2 nights - although I have just produced documentation that it is their mistake and they are fixing it otherwise I would be sleeping in the gutter Sunday night! Ha ha - the breakfast crew are looking well cool above restaurant time for me!
We've had a home invasion. A troop of monkeys have absolutely wrecked the place! Little shits! Blood, urine and food spread everywhere. Full authentic African experience
Hope you all have an amazing time, I've been there the past 2 years and loved it, decided to have a year off, but now it's the big weekend I'm missing it. Think I'll be back in 2018! Is there a list of your running numbers if I scroll back a few pages? I'm hoping to spend most f my Sunday here in the UK tracking those of you I know and watching live coverage somewhere on 'net.
Runner's Dinner at Spiga d'Oro, great company and good food (pic attached - not best clarity).
Lowrez, glad you made it here at last - what frustrating hassles you've had. Just don't arrive late in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday! I know you have a habit of cutting it fine, but Sunday is not the time.
That is a mighty fine looking group of elite runners A visit to the Hilton dinner buffet has cured all my ills. The prawn cheesy mac is a wonderful invention. Worked out I can do the tour and still fit the expo in afterwards tomorrow. Hope you all have a fine parkrun with Brucey in the morning.
