Monday 22nd October 2018 - Everyone's got a combination

Morning.

Lyrics - Everyone's got a combination

Your holiday sounds great chicksta. I find walking hard on the legs too, different than running miles.

What:            short and easy
Why:             tapering
Last hard:     having to plan/enter things so far in advance
Last rest:      14/10

Yesterday's lyrics - It's Only Natural - Crowded House.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

  • Morning!

    Glad you've booked York, LMH

    What: 6k, possibly

Why: part of M73 friend's long run. Will be my furthest continuous run since I don't know when! Definitely not this year!

    Lyrics: no

Looks like another lovely autumnal day.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

    Morning all
Don - that sounds like a cracking XC, it's definitely my favourite type of racing
Benjy - are we still allowed to mix with you now after your TV fame?
Ale - quite right, it was glorious in Manchester on Saturday!

    What - easy lunchtime
Why - caution - slight niggle in knee/thigh, possibly ITB. Never had problems there before but had a couple of shooting pains up the left leg yesterday so we'll see how it goes today.
It was making all sorts of clicking and popping noises doing knee lifts earlier too. Maybe I'm just falling apart.
Last rest - arguably Saturday (see below)
Last hard - yesterday: 12.5 trail miles

Drove up to Manchester early Saturday and delighted to see 50mph restrictions on the M6 for about 80 miles, due to finish in Spring 2022 (or when youngest finishes Uni!). 7 people spotted working. That said, at least it was free flowing, about 3 1/2 hours.
Shuttle Bus from Old Trafford to MMU for the usual tour and presentations on courses. Wandered up to the University as well which she visited 3 weeks ago. So as it stands Manchester Uni first choice, MMU second choice but have yet to visit Birmingham and Southampton. She is already envisaging herself in town though, so I'm sure this is where she'll end up. Spot of shopping before eldest and boyfriend came over from Leeds for some dinner before heading back to the Premier Inn about 11pm.
No running but apparently we walked 13km.

  • Morning again!

Glad Manchester went well Dustin. My daughter loved Birmingham though!

What: 6.31k. First half nice and easy, then I turned back. Pushed the penultimate km.

Why: trying to up the distance with a little help from a friend.

Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • LMH: One daughter had dancing exam and the other is on the injury bench after two nasty falls to the knee on concrete in netball. She has only just gone back to swimming club (after 4 weeks) but light training, specialist got an MRI booked in for a reassurance check. I know exactly what you mean about the gym and running, I do gym as I lose body mass from running quite quickly, but then I end up training muscles that then restrict running performance etc, fast twitch/slow twitch mix up. It's not something that really matters to me as the whole running/gym is a holistic to keep my weight down and general health up, but I'll never be a cracking runner as I (sounds dramatic) bulk up then trim down on a regular rollercoaster. That's great news about York, I'm making 2019 a marathon rest, but we are thinking of doing the York 10 mile (sets off 30 minutes later) just to be at the event, half marathon is my threshold these days, but they only do 10 as an alternative.

Dustin: Yes it is possible, but you have to doff your cap in my company. Be careful with these visits up North, you'll starting talking funny. Sorry to hear about the knee, hope it sorts out, nice 12.5 on trails.

Ale: 6k, keeps getting higher, like a Blue Peter appeal meter, hope it goes well.

Chicksta: "Richard Burton" I like it.

Just over 8 yesterday, really quite surprisingly speedy for me.

What: Somewhere in the region of 7 or 8 at lunchtime, more likely 7. No plan so I can go as far as I feel, which is usually further than when I have to do a prescribed distance. Intrinsic/extrinsic motivation conflict resolution in action.

    Why: Because I want to.

Lyrics: Well you know, I think I do.

  • Oh and one more thing, I'm livid, I forgot to say, I'm fuming and stamping up and down on the spot. Uploaded my Garmin VivoactiveHR last night, hadn't done it for two months, only to find it only ever stores 7 activities in the memory, so I don't have all those lovely long miles from August and September. 7 activities, that is rubbish, thought it was faulty then find the info in the online manual. My old Foreunner 205 kept 5 years worth of history. Thinking of getting one of those new shiny all-action-Jackson Garmin Instinct watches. I believe you can have pace, time elapsed, distance and time of day all on one screen in a nuclear bomb proof case. So I can wear it as a watch and not do wrist swapping or not having my GPS when a run oppurtunity happens.
  • 5k loop this evening
    It's Monday
    Last hard Saturday
Last rest from running yesterday (still swam)
    Lyrics no

50 mph winds here today with hail yesterday but 16°C on Saturday evening.

SC: I hope you enjoyed your weekend away any races?

Benjy: Fame fancy photo bombing on TV....:_)Those new fangled watches sound ace what  a shame  about only storing 7 activites. You must upload after each run or at least once a week?

Chick : Really You never knew Richard Burton was a runner...LOL It is situated in his home town in Wales;-)

    What 6 miles
Why: Because I can no better reason
Last hard: Foot, flooding illness, missing races
    Lyrics: Nope

My legs are really on fire at the moment each run is faster than the last....just waiting for the big girl pants run;-)
I have entered GSR for 2019;-)

    afternoon all
wow Poppy wish I could say the same about my legs lol! What a great feeling eh?
benjy blimey that's poor! I hope mine isn't like that, I don't think it is actually.  Hope today's run is good and hope daughter's knee is ok
alehouse nice one with the 6 + k run!
dustin h ope your knee is ok, wow busy weekend
lmh, enjoy the short and easy

what: very short and easy this morning
why: need to get home early and do my garden :-(
    last hard: this morning
    last rest: 31/12/16

Don't know what I was thinking of this morning , I entered Brighton Marathon and its flipping expensive!!

possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can
  • Afternoon!

How was Chingford League, Wabo? Brighton? Charity place? Better get those long runs consistently and progressively sorted!

And nice day for gardening here, also...as long as you are in the sun.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Hope your knee held up Dustin.

A 230 will do all those things (more or less) Benjy. I usually upload daily and write in a paper training diary too - would have been caught out whilst on holiday though as didn't upload for two weeks. Frustrating. Mark may do the ten mile at York too though I'm not betting on it.

Good on you getting your entries in Wabo and Poppy.

Nice to see your long run building Alehouse.

What a change in the weather OH.

This morning's run was better than yesterday - which was a relief!
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • No swimming today but run shortly might feel like either swimming or flying!
Fairly wild now - will be interesting to see if anyone else turns up ...

LMH: I'm not normally a consumer monkey, but I really like the look of the Garmin Instict as I can use it as a watch in normal day to day use and it can take a good few knocks. Hmmm pondering. It would good if you can twist Mark's arm for the 10 mile. Sign him up without his knowledge, then tell him he is doing it.

Wabo: That is great news, just hope your streak doesn't get affected, you may have to set your streak minimum lower for days after the long runs.

Welsh: Great going there, that's uplifting news. And regarding fame, it hasn't gone to my head, but I now have responsibilties, I have a supermarket to open with a ribbon cutting in your neck of the woods.

What a rubbish run I had at lunchtime, 6 miles and I had to stop a few times, just wasn't in the mood, think too close to eating or something like that. Well below par on all counts. Going to attend the running club up the road later for a one off and do a four miler just to top things up. Welsh I think I need those big pants.
  • And remind me, how  many days ago did you run a marathon, Benjy?! Looking forward to hearing about the supermarket opening!
    And get well, Emz!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • As you know Benjy Mark and I both wear our Garmins as everyday watches. Unfortunately Mark has quite a bit of previous for not running races he's agreed to do and I or he have paid for so I shall save my money. Is it really a good idea to go running again this evening? Hope your daughter's knee is now on the mend - it was some time ago she first had an issue wasn't it? I didn't realise she was still suffering.

I hope someone else turns up to keep you company OH.

Get well soon emzap. Are you planning on running York again next year?
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • 4 went out tonight but only 2 surnames. All 4 returned. Exhilarating, got blown back a few times but was fun crossing beach with the wind on my back.
