This morning on radio 4, Jim Naughtie was interviewing the very nice chap who was caught playing squash when he was on sick leave with an ankle injury when he should really have been driving an underground train. Subsequently the drivers balloted to come out on strike after he was dismissed from duty.
He really showed his intelligence when, having won his tribunal yesterday, as I understand it on no more than a technicality, had the cheek to say he'd been vindicated by the court.
He made a statement to the effect that he was testing out his ankle on the squash court as to whether he should return to work.
Am I missing something here or is this simply ludicrous? Would you be safe in the knowledge that this guy was in charge of your train?

I can't believe that RMT staff are prepared to lose a days pay for this w****r!
Do they do that automatically now??
Wish I could mention some of them... but
That sort of thing ?
errm, excuse me - try a treadmill instead??
LU - don't give him his job back!
<dons tin hat, "incoming ...">
What exactly does a train driver need to do apart from maybe stand up ?
A game of squash is gonna be overkill surely ?
World has gone mad !
so they hardly noticed he was gone then!
As I said, it can be either.
