I couldn't believe it - my sister phoned about 30 seconds from the finish (grrr); all I saw was this new bottom with an unfamiliar name on it come into shot - I assumed she was someone who'd been lapped!
Wow - what a fantastic race. I thought USA might pick up a hanful of medals - but alas only the bronze. Dillon coming in 6th was superb considering the cycle pack didnt capitalise on their size to chase on the bike. What about Swallow - I now anticipate a lot of criticsm of the selection - and perhaps warranted. A superb run won the race, would Whitcombe have been able to do similar?
Swallow really showed why she had been selected didn't she.... Fantastic race tho witha suprise winner. How did she run that fast after two hours?? There may well be some criticism of the selctors decision now!!
Well three of them crashed just by kind of slithering in to the barriers! Lack of technical ability I'm sure (I'm a fine one to talk, I get scared coming to a halt and clambouring off the blasted contraption)
I am not hugely informed about the Olympic selection for tri, or about her past few seasons but WHY was Swallow selected? Sorry but I just don't rate her. Apparantly she was 2nd over the trial on the course there in Athens....well great, but maybe that was in winter? It strikes me that she's either injured, or having bizarre accidents midrace so she doesn't finish....or else she just isn't up there where she should be.
Couldn't we have selected someone better?
Good run from Dillon to make it to 6th though, and what a stormer from the Austrian woman!! Amazing!
Did anyone else think the main chase group, or the peloton, were just cruising along. All those people together should have worked together and caught thelead group. Maybe they should be forced to watch the tour de france to see how a group works as a team and chases! Does show a lack of knowledge in the bike section which has cost medals...
icedog, Yes, glad someone else noticed, I thought the main pack on the cycle were just out for their Sunday ride - not sure if it was an illusion as a being a big pack or not?

Jj - amazing finish by Allen, would love to see her run split and she looked so fresh at the end
back to w*k
good grief.

RW - Quote for next time eh ?
<covers eyes>
you boys
their names were on their bottoms. That's what I meant.
My bottom says Tu Chuzy. )
is Leanda Cave not in the same class or is she injured?
brilliant run by Allen to get Gold tho

maybe they just sent Swallow to get some experience for the future ?
Taormina ended up about 15 th after all the effort up fron the cycle
so anyone who trains on hills would be at an advantage on that course?
Yep I thought it was the USA woman, too.
Icedog, agree, esp as they were allowed (I think?) to draft - what;s the use of that if you don't use it and help each other back to the leaders!?
You'd think that they'd have found out the course profile long ago and trained accordingly..?
if you can make head or tail of them.
I imagine the times are the amount behind the winner!!
Felt a bit sorry for Harrop when the Austrian overtook her, but fantastic effort and that's sport!
