Brian Clough died this morning, he was a famously anti-establishment figure who took 2 unfashionable East Midlands teams to the very height of English and European football. Should have been England manager but we got Ron Greenwood instead!!!
Also very generous - my mum got him to turn up at an Xmas school disco once - she knew his wife. He also bought me an orange juice at a kids football awards night about 25 years ago so he is OK by me. I'm sure everyone in Derby has a few Clough stories he lived just round the corner from me as a kid (I was the kid not him!) and in the last few years too.
Kenny Burns & Larry Lloyd now that was a partnership and who would have thought that it would have been possibles.Garry Birtles plucked from obsecurity and then sold to Man U. Clough had the ability to get the best out of players.
Truely a LEGEND and should have been England manager. Maybe we wouldn't have to look back to 1966 all the time if he had been.
It is sad, seems less and less straight talking types about these days, of course he'll be missed. I liked the one about if God had intended us to play football in the sky he'd have put grass there- quite right.

He was a bit of a buffoon at times, but I always felt he was *our* buffoon. A straight talking man, proud of who he was and what he had done.
The world is a better place for characters like Clough.
Godspeed Old Big 'ead
Would beat having some over paid foreigner with a floosey for a g/f !!!

RIP
Cant believe it
(((((((
didnt realise he was only 69 tho - he looked a lot older obviously due to being so unwell
Isn't he the most successful coach in UK?
He was lucky to get one at over 65, one usually gets turned down at that age
the stomach cancer got him Hipps, the liver transplant was 21 months ago according to the family statement.
Great manager in the right clubs
No Sir Brian know sadly but in many peoples eyes the King!
A sad day for football Wenger and Ferguson, great managers but would you go out of your way to listen to them talk, I think not.
Seems to be unless you are involved with 1966 or the Trafford Scum then you've no chance (apart from Robson).
