I really don't think the money is what motivates a lot of them (obviously it does with some) - in PR's case, she already has a small fortune and when things get to that stage it's not going to matter as much any more.
PR is obsessive about her running/racing/performance, and lets face it, if appearance fees were that big a factor she'd have been better off completely skipping the Olympics and just concentrating on the big cities, in terms of probability.
What happend the to mens race coverage. Too many Paula fans, not enough sports fans to want to watch a great race... the mens race was a good one too, but we never saw it Bad British Coverage (BBC)
I loved the fact that the BBC only showed the women's race and then stopped! YES it was a bit sexist but the shoe on the other foot for a change was a welcome one. Well done Paula and the BBC for covering the ract I say!
"I didn't want to watch the paula radcliffe show I wanted to watch the marathon! There are a lot of people competing in the marathon for charity, out of their own pockets, and all you are showing is paula who is getting paid 250k! Professional athletes and 'celebs' are destroying the spirit of this event."
of course what we really wanted to see were Mr men and and teapots running round
I'd say no, and I think a lot of people would, if I had another goal, as I think at that level (and wealth) the difference in money doesn't come into it (but then again I don't think anyone could truly say until in that position). Basically I think her racing is more impt to her than any amt of money.
re the coverage - I think there was more interest in the women's race, plain and simple (and heaven forbid Eastenders is on late!)
I don't really understand the 'disable' comment, but if it was about all the talk about Paula Radcliffe.. I haven't talked about it before and surely if people don't like the talk about it they can just not read it? Lost.
dya think the Beeb would get better viewing figures for athletics if all the major championships were in fancy dress - the World Indoor Teapot Athletics Championships has a ring to it ?
Well, lets just argue something that we don't really know abuot then shall we? I can't be arsed to spend the rest of the day talking about hypetheticals and speculations. ;-p
I think they squeezed the coverage in when Paula said she was running it, so they didn't want to add extra time on for the teapots and Mr Men. In any case, I think watching them too often would be tedious. Once a year at FLM is ok, but once every few months would get boring.
They might get better viewing figures if they made it a bit more interesting! Or didn't include shots that showed the winners of events not yet televised doing their lap of honour, thus giving the whole game away.
I wanted to watch the the elite races both the mens and womens, I'm not saying the coverage should have been of equal measure. There was a reason they staggered that start times, we could have seen the last 45min of the mens race, it would have been more nail biting moments. For me, the coverage ended too soon.
Oh, well I can understand that (the 'disable').. came back after the weekend to find 267 emails in my inbox!
If you turn off notification in your profile can you still get responses to certain threads such as event threads? My problem is I disable a thread but then forget next time I post to uncheck the box.. and it comes back.

She wants to be the best, not the best earner!

Teapot Course record?
Most successful MrMan of all time - could be important for choosing a costume
;-p
It's preferable to spending the rest of the day working, though!
Disable is in reference to people disabling the email notification of responses.
Anyway, I'm off to spend £2 on a jacket potato.

Never seen a teapot one though.
What filling Jon? The world awaits with baited breath.
Not quite sure how you would see with a teapot costume on (through the spout?).
What is the backwards WR? I'm intrigued. Going to do some searching
