a friend of ours has also been selected for the same selection weekend as Petal (yes - we have some strange friends!)
here's what she said
"When I received an e-mail telling me I'd been selected I was so excited, I ran round the house naked with just Pel's Russian hat on. He asked me what I was doing and I said that I was acclimatising myself to the cold!! Then I said I wanted to sleep in the tent in the loft, Pel refused to put it up for me, spoil sport, and so I slept in the sleeping bag reading a book with my head torch on! Wondered why I got up for work the next day with bags under my eyes!"
this is the selection weekend.....the e-mail from the organisers basically said
"meet at 2pm at grid reference SH913232 using least number of vehicles possible (there's a team of 12) and be prepared to go straight out into the hills"
that GR is Bwlch y Groes pass in North Wales - highest road pass in Wales - between Bala and Vrynwy lakes....
other than that she has no idea what else she has to do!!!
not a lot as Petal has been out of contact in the main. they went into the hills Friday, she got soaking feet within half an hour after walking into a bog, they bivvied overnight under tarpaulin (no sleeping bag and no hot food either!). completely knackered Sat morning and then doing other things (not sure what) although they did get shelter last night and hot food and she had a good nights kip.
other than that I know not much except she is a bit pissed with the organisation and some of the other peeps (reeaaalll slow apparently) - not sure whether she wants to take up the challenges if she gets selected - that's the way she felt yesterday.
she won't be back until late tonight so I guess she will report in tomorrow on here...
Sounds like good organisation, they sound like they're testing peoples fortitude. Probably looking to see who can pull for the team rather than just do their bit successfully.
probably so Dodge - would agree there BUT it's a bit off when they aren't told they were not getting food (not just hot food - NO food) on Friday evening - she could have ensured she had more than just a few energy bars with her............in my view that was stupid on their part.......
I have this image in my mind of Petal getting crosser and crosser and saying 'F*** this for a game of soldiers' and storming successfully through the entire shebang, fuelled by crossness.
It would be intesting to find out what the organisers were thinking of re: lack of food. Ordinarily you wouldn't go out into the blizzardy unknown without your emergency rations, but if it does go pear shaped for real then you might be in the situation where you don't know what is going to happen next or indeed where the next meal might come from.
Jj- cross housework? I find the hoovering very soothing for the soul, all that filth being sucked up.
...and for the avoidance of any doubt, it's the filth in the ferret household I am referring to. I imagine Jj must only have to vacuum up the rose petals which have fallen from the bouquets sent by admiring forumites.

NUTTER!!
I don't fancy the chances of someone who needs their hubby to put up their tent for them.
