After a day's reflection, serious soul searching and some immensely uplifting comments from friends and forumites, I made a decision to GO FOR IT!
I phoned Jim McNeill the Project Leader to say that if they wanted me on the team I could and would commit 100%. I was too late!
&-( :-e :-<
His comments were "what a shame......... we thought you had de-selected yourself".
I will be informed of the final selection and hope my 2 selections make it thru!
In looking forward to following the project thru to its conclusion in 2006 I would urge you all to perhaps consider some kind of sponsorhip to the project especially for Jim's solo attempt to start at the end of Feb 2005.
Really sorry it didn't work out Clare. Now once this silly Ironman thing is out the way drag FB up to Greenland and go off on your own mini expedition. The bonus is that if you end up trapped in the ice and have to eat each other to survive, you'll last a lot longer than he will.
Sorry to hear the news Petal...it's a bugger but you never know, something else will come up...if you find an expedition that ain't too cold, you might get some of us to join ya....
OK folks - final lists are published and Petal is not included!
Its tough getting to grips with this especially when one guy has already stated that he secretly hoped he wouldn't get thru!
I've had some ego-boosting e's from fellow wannabe's but it is still a very bitter pill to swallow considering the heart-searching I did to finally come up with the 100% commitment to go.
My next dilemma is whether to offer my services in some other capacity - I'm just not sure I can submerge the envy enough to give valuable support.
Petal <hug, mwah> For what it's worth, I agree with RB and MM, concentrate on what you REALLY want to do - I think it would be too hard to be connected to the project but not actually take part........
(((Petal))) so sorry and thanks for the report. Agree with what others have said 'cos I think you'd be too disappointed not to be actually doing the challenge.

can't see you in another capacity doing it... unless there is some reserve list involved as well...
