just over 700 miles. after one 1/2 marathon (Bristol) in 2000, came back to running a bit this year, got vaguely into it in april, then decided to re-do Bristol and got more serious. Entered Paris marathon in Oct, more serious since then! 500 miles in last 21 weeks.
only aim for 2004 was to beat 2000 1/2 marathon (1:43). Did 1:39.25 this time.
for 2005: 1. 30 miles per week on average 2. 1:38 1/2 marathon 3. 3:30 marathon (more realistically 3:40!) 4. 45 min 10k (pb 45.54) 5. at least one race a month on average 6. weigh 85k for marathon, (pre 04, 92k, now 87k) 7. not really an aim because already achieved: really enjoy running, feel grrrreat!
My target for 2005 is to remain injury free and to continue to enjoy running, and maybe, get a few others out of my office at lunchtimes to join me.....
2005: Sub 2.3X for marathon To qualify and go to the World Champs To confirm my place for the Commonwealth To run Sub 33 minutes for 10k To run Sub 73 for Half Marathon
Stop running road races where you running against the clock (I hate chasing PB's on flat featureless courses) - stick to off road. - stuck to apart from a momentary relapse to do the Cornish Marathon - (thats Hilly as hell for a road race though so it doesnt really count.) Managed 11th place.
Finish the MDS in the top 50.
.......which turned into a "Did Not Start" due to an injury picked up at the MOB lite a few weeks beforehand and meant 4 months of no running.
I had some lighter moments in the year mind - picking up a top three and breaking the old course record at a 55 miler, probably being the highlight.
How many miles did I run this year ? - not a clue, never log it. I train when I want to or when I can be bothered. Which varies anything from 80 miles a week down to almost none.
Alright girls, get back down to planet Earth. (But I still would like to see you on the telly EG)
2004 goals: 1:30 HM 3:15 Marathon for a GFA £3000 sponsorship
2004 results 10mile pb 10k pb twice 1:28:03 at Bath 1/2 3:16 at London (B*ll***x) 3:14:33 at Cardiff (Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaa) £4000 sponsorship 1800 miles Joined a club Actually won some prizes, but I've eaten them now.
2005 targets To have fun racing and training pbs at 10k, 10m, 1/2, Marathon To run non-pb attempt races (those with scenery that needs ascending)
I didn't have any goals at the beginning of 2004, but the following happened:
1. Beginning of September - took up running 2. Joined running club 3. Ran three 10ks (PB of 37.07 at Nike Run London, November) 4. Ran two HMs (PB of 1.22.37 at Bedford, December) 5. Probably totalled more than 350 miles.
2005 goals:
1. Rotterdam marathon - do sub3. This is flexible though, and subject to training. 2. Do a 5k in less than 18. 3. Do a 10k in less than 37. 4. Do a HM in less than 1.22. 5. Stop smoking. 6. Get down to around 7 units of alcohol a week. 7. Would say 28 inch trousers, but they are very difficult to buy. 8. Learn how to pole vault (this one is the least plausible).
Actually what possessed me to write "stop" smoking? Stop has dramatic and severe connotations. I really meant "gradually realise by a rumour" that I no longer smoked.
My 2004 has been pretty much a 2000 mile total write-off so I'll not remind myself what I was supposed to do again That said I did fit a lot of quality training in and I expect to have carried some of that over into 05.
New year targets are mainly around the marathon which I want to run in 2:37 and to do that I need a sub 74min half. I'd expect to run about 2,500-800 miles.
As a diversion in the Summer I'm going to run across Ireland over the course of a week.
To reclaim old pb's from 1988/89 from a different running life suceeded 5k 25:23, 10k 51:40, ½Mar 2:02:03
3 target races March Banbury 15 2:35:19 in appalling weather June Southend ½Marathon wanted sub 2 (failed) Oct Southend 10k wanted to obliterate my time from the previous year 60:10 down to 51:40.
Mileage for the year if i run 3.88 miles tomorrow it'll be 1400 (wanted 1500 but things got in the way)
Targets for 2005
2005 miles (minimum)
I'll be 37 next year i too would like the 37 theme, but think a 37 min 10k will be asking too much (hoping for 45 mins) but maybe 37 minutes for 5 miles could be achieveable (she says!!!!!!!!)
Only 2 old pb's left to reclaim
5 miles 38:34 - closest this year was 41:25 10 miles 1:28:29 (still to race a 10 miler this life)
Try and lower pb's across the board but the main focus will be on 10k (sometime in the Autumn
Copied from the first page of my 2004 diary (to prove I havenm't cheated!) 2004 goals:- 1) marathon 3:20/ UK ranking and/or FLM top 10 W50 (actual: made a mess of the race - only acheieved 3:27, and then not in shape to do planned autumn marathon; but at least, the only goal for the year I've achieved, 9th W50)
2) sub 1:35 1/2 marathon (missed by 2 mins)
3) sub 7 min/miles at 5k-5ml-10k -(best 5k = 7:04 min/ml)
so pretty dismal year - and not for want of trying - just over 3000 miles; loads of speedwork
so: Goals for 2005 sub 3:15 marathon/top 5 W50 - other goals as 2004 + sub 7mm 10ml ( - I love Stickless' comment, above "being reasonable never got me anywhere particular, so.."
I like Pammie's aim of reclaiming old PBs. Mine were also all set in 1989, so I'll add that to my 2005 goals - but they will have to fit into the category of 'being reasonable never got me anywhere'!
didn't set any goals last year but have cut a minute and 10 seconds from my 10k pb, 18 seconds from 1500m pb, and picked up 3 county vests so fairly happy.
Goals 2005:- 1500: sub 4:15 3000: sub 9:30 5000: sub 16 (bit ambitious) 10000:sub 35 10 miles: beat the hour (should do quite comfortably)
and apart from purely times: move up to a clear number 2 in Herts County XC (currently 4th from last race) and race in AAA u-20 5000m final
1x 5 miles pb 41.42 6x 10 k pb 45.59 10 miles did not run one 1x half/m pb 1hr 45
so my goals for 2005 are 1. to run a under 40 for 5 miles 2. to got under 44 for 10k 3. to run a 10 mile race 4. to got 1hr 40-1hr 30 half/m
my miles for the year is 736 my goal was to do 1000m but i hd 2 injurys in the year that lost me 6 week between then so 2005 is to stay injury free and got past 1000 miles

Never been interested in distance or times!!!
2004
Mileage: 3,618
Goals met: to qualify for the Olympic Marathon
To run Sub 35m for 10k
To run Sub 17 for 5,000
Goals missed:
To go to the Olympics
So, on balance, I achieved most of what I set out to do. Plenty of time to work on the missed goals! I guess the next thread will be goals for 2005?
2005: Sub 2.3X for marathon
To qualify and go to the World Champs
To confirm my place for the Commonwealth
To run Sub 33 minutes for 10k
To run Sub 73 for Half Marathon
Not asking for much there then!

EP...
Shall check out the no smoking thread.
I'll be 45 next year, so my goals (only two of them) have a "45" theme to them. They are:
1. A 10K time of 45:xx (current PB 46:37, so possible)
2. A sub-1:45 half-marathon (current PB 1:45:20, so should happen)
Good luck everyone...I hope you all stay injury free and hit your goals.
1) To stay healthy all year round so I am able to train and not sudder any ill health at all.
2)Marathon time of sub 3.45
3)HM time of Sub 1.45
4)10K time of 45.00
5)5K time of 21.00
Best wishes to everyone in the quest for the Holy Grail whatever it maybe:-)
Miles makes smiles.
