I think you are right. For most of us they are only symbols and we end up doing laundry, cooking and cleaning even if not married (hey look at me).
But for other people, not getting married or getting maried makes a lot of difference. Sometimes women have to give up their jobs, because it isn't possible to work and be married in the eyes of some males
