Just booked up online for me and hubby, the full 8 miles..can't be any worse than running the half mara! Really looking forward to it...think the bar and bbq swung it for me. Need something to focus on whilst running.
Hi HMG, you will see me there! Looking forward to this one...something different. As it's a Hash thing...can you wear just your norm running shoes, heard they like to get messy!
I ran this last year in my normal running shoes (as that's all I had/have). No problems, they got a bit muddy but that's good isn't it? It was a excellent run.
Hillbilly - fortunately for me it's something I've not suffered from (yet) but I know MSG has so maybe she'll have some tips?
Hi Val, thanks for that...looking forward to getting muddy. All well apart from the below, again!
No tips for shin splints...just never ran for five weeks...did a 4 miler and a half mara first week back and was fine....done no running last week...went to run home from work...and shin started up again.
Hi all, looking forward to c u all there, I think I am overdoing it on the tapering for this one, surely I should have recover from Taunton1/2 by now. Well at least I'll be in good shape for the serious stuff, Bbq & wine!
Hillbilly, how are u getting on?
I'll be wearing my RW vest so I'll be easy to spot if anyone wants to say hello!:-)
I'm doing OK. It would appear I didn't have shin splints or if I did a little adjustment to the training and alot of stretching seem to have things under control. The website and article Monkey Spunk Girl (is that rude?) had some good tips but also scared me a little. I haven't been able to get out this week yet as I was babysitting the kids Sun, Mon & Tues and only got in about an hour ago as I was stuck on the M5 for 3 hours. That's an hour and a half I've missed. I'm hoping to get out early tomorrow and make up for the lost time over the next few days. I see you popping up on the Fetcheveryone website. You can see what I've been doing there. Ran the Fetch 5 in 46.41 a new PB and the only 5 miler I've done to date. I'll look out for you at the GR8, I'll be there with my family, my wife and the girls are walking the 3 miler. Happy plodding!
MSG is not rude....honest! Monkey Spunk is a drink....that I drink a lot of on nights out! So some know me as the Monkey Spunk Girl.
Glad you never had shin splints.
Not sure about this run....not done any running since Taunton Half Mara....will be a challenge....but like HMG I too am in good shape for the BBQ and Drinkies!!!!! Most important bit of the day!!!!!
Hi Guys, not long now now and it look like we'll have a brilliant weather for run & barbie. Legs feeling very stiff, must have something to do with a little jog on Monday, lots of wine and no stretching! So if u see somebody crawling the hills, that'll be me.
Did the run on Thursday morning. Lovely day with great views. It is is still pretty muddy in places so prepare to get dirty, although just think of the BBQ at the finish. Did 78 mins. Looking for 72 on race day.
90 min, are they the concurve ones? coz we've only got small sizes left but we sell the Thorlos and Fox river and they're very paded under foot and around the ankle to protect achilles. oh and I've just remember we got some Hilly aswell and they're nice too.
HMG - No, X-Socks is a make, Iron Bridge Runner in Exeter have stopped stocking them & I was wondering if you did. Not to worry. Yes, I'll be there with the boys tomorrow.
Sounds like u had a good cardo loading session last nite Hilbilly! Lovely weather for today :-)
Typical I've got a bit of a sore throat this morning so will take all the vitamines in the house and echinacea.(sounds like I'm already making excuses .... but I'm not!:-)

I'll be there. It will be my first race for over ten years. Only started running again at the end of Jan.
ValP, it will be a good training run for the Exmoor Seaview 17:-)
Really looking forward to it...think the bar and bbq swung it for me. Need something to focus on whilst running.
c u there MSG :-)
I'm having problems with shin splints and it is not helping my training for the GR8 Wood. Anyone got some tips?

That's funny I did some extra stretching on my hamstrings on Tuesday and am now very stiff myself. I'm sure it will be OK for Sunday
Can't wait to see the course... no idea what to expect but sounds good. Hope it dries out (I only have road shoes :-)
