Hi DW, yes I think Grumpy has clarified that it is called that on the Salisbury Events thread.
Any additional info on these races would be helpful people. Bear in mind I'm only going on your race recommendations and don't know these races personally
Coniston would give me a good reason to train on hills (lets face it, I wouldn't otherwise!)
Not much interest for Inverness Half yet, but in case anyone is thinking about it:
Starts next to the river, near the sports centre, and runs along to the main bridge into the town. Flat until 3.5 miles, where there is a slight hill (nothing tooooo scary) to mile 5. Turns up a lovely wee leafy lane for a mile or so, then back into the east of the town. There is a small hill about 8.5 miles, but this is followed by a good downhill for recovery, and the last 3 miles are flat, back along the river on bith sides to finish at the running track.
Nice medal and T-shirt, and £300 prize if anyone beats the course record!
I just had a nose on the Warminster Running Club site about the George Dunster Imber Half and the results for 2002, they only had 239 people listed. So I was thinking, could this event be too small for us as we'll flood it?
Coniston for me. I have done it twice before and whilst I wouldn't call it 'demanding' it is undulating but its one of those where the scenery takes your mind off the challenge of the course. Great pub across the road from the finish line for a swift one after!
Already sent my entry for Helsby off. Someone did say it fills up very early so be warned. Ironbridge has to be my local 1/2 so I'd better do that one too.
I really fancy Coniston, though walking there used to kill me when I was 17!!! Isnt it a fell run?? Salisbury, FAB, Stonehenge-- Like the sound of Ironman Oh God, shall be in permanently knackered phase like now Dont think marathon followed by half marathon 6 weeks later is particularly si=ensible for a beginner!! Just cant resist Someone decide for me!!
Helsby's pretty close, but would require a complete change in my training. Would have to up the length of my longest runs very significantly. How late can I leave it to decide whether or not to enter, on past experience - anyone? If successful, then Ironbridge - maybe.
Thanks BK, delighted to see both Helsby and Coniston made the list, I'm down for both so it looks like I might finally get to meet some forumites in the flesh, which I'll really look forward to. Inverness would be great if I could sell it as a weekend youth hostelling to the family, will have to decide nearer the time.
Pleased to see you're keeping your promise Ratbag! Don't be scared of Coniston, it's 14 miles not a half so you've every excuse to forget your normal 1/2m times anyway.
Go on Mike; just think of it as 53*400 m with no recoveries.
Almost certainly Salisbury, possible Ironbridge but its the day after I return from a skiing trip!!! Maybe I can catch a lift. Is it possible for organisers to extend the entry limits to races if they know they have a big demand? How/ Why do they set entry limits ?
Salisbury is better for me being about an hour down the A303. Not sure if clashes with the Camberley halfM tho' - wouldn't want to miss that having set pbs in the past two years, I should go for the hat-trick.

Is the race you are talking about here The George Dunster Imber Half?

Does anyone know the limits for this one?
The Salibury one is called The George Dunster Imber Half, don't know anything other than what is on the web http://www.runningdiary.co.uk/go/view.cgi/201
Badger and I just decide that we were going to do it, that's why we mentioned it. (it looks a popular choice so I'm sure it will be good regardless)
I'm up for either Ironbridge or Coniston too!
Ooooh, I'm excited already!

You didnt mention the extra Coniston mile
Suppose its up a hill

I like your idea of winning the "unofficial team" team prize at Salisbury.
We'll have to persuade Drew to come along.
The police normal influance the limit on a race
Would like to do Salibury, but if not will do either Ironbridge or Coniston which ever is the most popular.
p.s. 1st time using forum and have only done 2 10k races so far this year (only started running in Feb 02)
Theresa
The others are all mad, except myself and Jonny Boy, and RB and Badge and....
These races should be great!
Don't listen to Barkles, he lost it years ago
Whizzy
I shall be up for Consiton/Ironbridge too.
Daisy Dog - where is your kennel? I used to live at Chittern. Love that whole area dearly.

Coniston I would imagine Lake District.
