Ham - I've done it before and am just looking for anything to help beat the cold, I'm also thinking of using deep heat but wonder if it will just draw out core heat and therefore make hypothermia more likely. Roman soldiers used to roll stinging nettles over there legs apparently, anyone fancy that!!! I'm really looking forward to it and dreading at the same time.
I won't be at TG this year - just got back from hols and too many things to do at home at the w/e that I can't ignore........or leave to another w/e unfortunately
..as a newbie, thought about wearing lycra shorts, performance t shirt hat/gloves and elastic support elbow/knee pads for protection, what do you think/ (who have done it before)
nfs - most crawling about tends to be on very, very, very wet soft mud!! You are on concrete when going over the anaconda and crawling through the vietcong tunnels.
Not sure on others techniques for the cong tunnels but I was on my back trying to push myself along with my legs on the ceiling so no knee problems there.
I'm just covering myself in lard and diving head first into the VC tunnels this year, the lard may also keep out the cold. Just a bit worried about the flaming hay bales :-)
I had thought about tuby grip knee pads but for the length of time you will need them and the chance they will just soak up the water and end up round your ankles I did not think its worth it. By the time I make it to the VC tunnels and the anaconda I usually can't feel my legs anyway so no worries!
Need for speed - I know what you mean, this is my first TG and am sooooo scared!!! It seemed like such a good idea, watching the video of friends last year.. But how cold can it really get?!?!?!?
Someone suggested getting a neopreme top... and i found one for £6 from decathlon. So hopefully this will help with the cold.
JK. I have some deep heat too but didnt think it would remove core heat just thought it would keep the calf and thigh muscles warm. mmmmmmmmmmmmm got me thinking now. Using lard for the rest of my body , well vaseline anyway
Covering yourseld in Lard sounds like a really good idea, maybe consider covering clothes in lard or wax to, may stop the water and wind penetrating a bit.. Ive no idea if this would work though?
Saw a girl running in a wetsuit last year, she overheated about 1 mile into the cross country and had to take it off. I think it would be worth putting up with the discomfort during the 30-50 minute run for the warmth it would provide later on.

The run can take anything between 45 mins and two hours depending on two things, how fast you are and, more importantly, your start position. Once you get trapped behind the main pack it is pretty difficult to work your way forward. This gets worse once you hit the killing fields.
DavidM - depends where you start as the bottlenecks will be there for those starting towards the back..........it's about 6 miles though of tough XC so use that as your basis

thought knee protection would be good for crawling about?
