is anyone doing this or done it before. i fancy giving it a go but i'venever run that far before. what is the terrain like - i know this is norfolk but how undulating is undulating!?
Did the 10k in 2003, when there was both a 10k and 20k option. Don't know which distance you're planning to run next year.
Back in 2003, both the 10k and 20k were more or less out-and-back and over the same course - the 10k runners turned round halfway to the brewery and the 20k runners ran all the way to the brewery and back.
As I recall, the first kilometre was steep downhill, then there was a moderately steep (few percent, maybe) climb for the next kilometre or two. Got past that and things got a lot flatter... until of course the finish when you get the reverse of the start: a long downhill followed by a steep uphill for the last 500 m.
I did the 20km two years ago, some of the parts are open to the elements as they are on roads around some fields. You get a nice bottle of beer from the brewery at the end. The running club also do a cross country around christmas/new year.
I ran the 10k race 2 years ago and enjoyed it. This is a really well organised event and gets good numbers. You are exposed to the elements and should it be windy you will know it.
recommended, a well organised and friendly race, but
WHY NO 10K?????
I did it last year and it was great fun despite the ankle deep slush and icy water. I was looking forward to having another go hopefully in better conditions, and I won't be up for 20k
Can anyone suggest anywhere in Bungay or Diss to stay for the weekend. I am travelling up from london with a couple of running buddies and we don't fancy an early drive on the Sunday.
CC, it's gone a bit a quite in here today! Today I did a hilly 5.5m XC and got back to watch the match that I taped. Luckily I live 200 miles away so there was not mention of the score on the radio on the way back.
I too missed most of the match on Sunday as I was running cross country at Lakenheath.A well deserved win according to all the neutral observers. I suspect mid table for both sides this season.
By the way championship but not for long what does that mean? Surely not that you think you may go down into Division 1 Canary?!
AATB - A well deserved win for your boys. You played us off the park. We were never in it. That's the makings of a good yound side you have there.
Buryblue - the reason for the "not for long" is because last season I was Premier Canary and I stupidily believed that the fool of a manager was cable of taking us back up! How deluded was I!!!
Anyway enough about football - really looking forward to this race I've heard lots of good things about it.
Just found this thread, did it a couple of years ago - for some mad reason I decided to do Great North, Great South, Great East and Great West.
Great East definitely lived up to its name, excellent race and marshals, really enjoyed the course (20k one) - that last hill doesn't look much when you're at the start but it IS a killer when you're at the end. I even train in Devon which isn't supposed to be flat.
Of the 4 "great" runs the East and West were the best, if I had to travel for the Great West I'm not sure which I would rate as best. But both are better than North or South.
You have a fair few undulations in the race and there's a lot of open fields around, so if it's windy you'll know. Having said all that once my little ones are a bit bigger this is likely to go back on the annual race calendar. If only it wasn't a 600 mile round trip!
to birdypie, the course is quite up & down all the way round starting with a longish hill just before the 1k mark so don't start off too fast at the beginning. there is a lovely hill going through a housing estate at the end. Hope you have a good run
The morning after my first 20K. it hurts. Quite an introduction! I thought the marshalling was the best I've experienced, plenty of encouragement from the poor souls stood in the icy wind all morning. The course is excellent, apart from the u-turn which is just cruel and the not so glamourous finish up the steep hill back to the school through the housing estate. If this run was carried out over the summer I bet they'd fill it to capacity. As it was the stiff wind on the homeward 10k was a killer but at least it was dry. Will I do it again? Well 10k is definitely my distance but in retropect it was enjoyable and it's 12 months til the next one so I guess I will. A hearty thank you to all the organisers, marshalls and supporters, well done!

By the way Bungay is proudly Suffolk.

Still fingers crossed the weather is OK. really looking forward to this one!
I've packed several kit options in my bag so hopefully have something warm for Sunday! Looking forward to a couple of days out of London!
