I think I once read that the art of flying is to fall over but not hit the ground. Now I read that the art of injury free and fast running is to fall forwards but not hit the ground. I know which one I'll try.
Didn't get to try the Pose as I didn't run this morning - went to a circuit class last night to support a friend who's just qualified as an instructor. Might try it tomorrow morning......
AS - what time are you trying for on Sunday? Have you posted your details on the cuub web-site?
See you over on the Hogsmill thread for details of meeting up, etc.
Well - I tried this Pose thing this morning..... I really didn't get the hang of it at all, all I seemed to do was bash my big toes into the end of my shoes!
I think if I'm going do to this - I need someone to show me how!
Aww sorry to hear that Shambler.....do you have someone to give your feet a good massage tonight?
I had a few probs to start with - difficult to remember to bring the leg forward more quickly I found. And I probably still don't lean forward enough as I feel my heel still makes a lot of contact with the floor. Think takes bit of time. Hope you stick with it though, cos it worked for me.
Did you feel a bit silly leaned forward like that?
I think I've gont one of me heads coming on! ;o) Honestly, I think I'll just stick to puttin gone foot in front of the other..... I run for fun, to keep fit and lose weight. If I start all this malarky I think the enjoyment factor will evaporate.
I gave this another go this morning, and I think I faired a little better.
I tried leaning forward (from my ankles, if you know what I mean) as if I had a plank down my back and keeping my back straight - almost asif someone was pushing me over from inbetween my shoulder blades - does any of this make sense?!. This certainly made my legs move more quickly and it wasn't so hard to keep "on my toes". Also, when I went back to my usual shambling style, my legs felt really heavy. I couldn't keep it going for more than a couple of minutes at a time as it feels so odd.
Nice one mate! Yeh sounds like it's working. Your feet will hurt for a few weeks as they are not used to it. But as it says on the websites, it's supposed to be the more 'natural' way for the body to run.
I've noticed this year though that I can't adopt the pose technique in triathlon or duathlon. It REALLY hurts!
I did end up getting the video on this one. Quite painful to watch in that it's oriented towards slightly stupid Americans and has rather a ponderous style.
Still you get the idea of what he's going on about. There's not quite the emphasis on leaning forwards that this thread has been talking about.
Ultimately i think it's actually leading people to the sort of natural running style they'd have if they had never worn shoes and were trying to run fairly fast over grass.
I see there's a London Clinic coming up in June - is anyone thinking of going? I'm quite interested.
Interesting. This Dr Romanov guy claims you are supposed to lean as if you are about to fall forwards - but only read this in 220 editions, so maybe it's different if just running.
Daz - I wasn't really trying to say that it doesn't tell you to lean forwards, just that there was a lot more to it - i.e. leg/heel lift, arm action and so on - which all combines with that aspect.
Not pretending to be an authority though! I've only watched the vid a couple of times and had a few half-hearted attempts at the "method".
Have you ever tried slowing down a recording of someone like Paula or Haile to see what their running action is from the side? Despite the hours of footage on the Marathon there wasn't really any decent stuff that I could do this with.
