Applications closed today, actually on the closing date! 101 entries, about usual. But several applications were sent with incorrect postage on them, and Royal Mail refused to deliver them, leaving me a card saying I could travel miles to collect them, and pay them £1.26 Needless to say I didn't bother! If you were one of those you aint entered!
The bogs where pretty wet at the moment - but are passable. The rain over the past couple of days will just add to the difficulty. Notice also that the starting times are out !!!
A friend walked it last Saturday, said it was abysmal, Wheeldale Beck & Jugger Howe Beck in flood, adds to thje interest I suppose! About 8 of you starting at 0830 Taff.
Yetti ta. I was looking to see about lifts to the start.
OK I need a little help. We are having a bit of bother finding a suitably detailed enough map to get us across all the way. Anyone got any suggestions on where to look and for that matter tips as I am new to this one and have never been to the area ie what to watch out for etc.
Anyone know where you park at the start, as the letter from the organiser seemed to say that you shouldnt really park at the start cos of vandals and the police. How do you get there otherwise and is the parking really that bad/dangerous?
Ph thanks. I have tried to put this to the back of my mind as this is one that I am staring to get excited about and still over a week to go. Having only done 8 marathons - sorry not in your league - I have become a little bored with them and need to strecth myself and see if I break! This is my first ultra so looking forward to it, although anticipate a slow time but who cares as long as I get there!
Did you do South Downs a week last Sunday? I thought I saw you on the thread. That was steep. Whats this like compared too that one, apart from being a lot longer?
Taff - There are 2 car parks at the start, which are ok to park in, but probably not overnight. The police give tickets out for parking on the grass verge. On the maps front the best ones are the os maps, buts it's as ph said when it comes to the end of the railway line and into Rosedale bogs that's when you come to the bottom part of both maps. I'm starting at 04:15 !!!!!
Thanks both. Strewth, South Downs was the hilliest thing I have done and my slowest marathon. Missed my PB by about 1 hour 12 mins! And this is harder? Hubba hubba hubba. Still looking forward to it though!
