lcw; I dont know wether or not im the best person to take advice from as Im extremely eccentric and inconsistant when it comes to training, but I'd say that if your enjoying your training runs, pick a nice day and up the mileage to full distance. if your runnig regularly anyway you'll recover in a few days ready to taper down, but at least on race day you'll have that confidence knowing that your more than capable and more than prepared and you'll get to the finish line and think "is that it?, is that all youve got for me? mwahahaha"

tommoimageefinatley 3-1-4-2 is the order imo. although 3 can be acheived by attaining 4

^ er never write : followed by a D it comes up as a big smiley face.

giving that knowledge hopefully my above comment now makes sense.

or am I really stupid: is there an 'edit post' button?

As did your advice - I usually try and do the full distance before a half, just to remind myself that I can actually run that far! As long as you do it with plenty of time to rest before the actual race.

Having said that, there's definitely a school of thought that says that if you can run 11 miles you can find the other two on the day...

    Evening all.......

Just noticed I'm down in Cumbria on holiday that week and seen this was on. How is it as an event ..? Is it flat and stuff.........?

    What about beer after.........?

Hello shipmates, hope everyoes training is going to plan.
Scottishharimau - this is as flat a course as you'll find anywhere. There are two small inclines but nothing that will burst your lungs.

lcw75 - As for training, I like to gradually increase my long weekend runs up to a maximum of 12 or 13 miles, the last one being two weeks before I run. Others say you only need to run 10 or 11 in training and your last long run should be three weeks before but I like to run the extra week. I've run a lot of halfs but honestly I'm no expert when it comes to training. I don't do any speed work or cross training, I just go out and run, so please take my advice lightly.

    Hows about starting race predictions?

    Captain Haddock 1:36

I would of been going for a PB here myself but as i have a marathon the week after i best not go too fast. I suspect my target of 2:15 will be beaten but hopefully not by too much.

Aiminbg to stick to a slow pace until after the loop at the midway point before speeding up to marathon pace for the last half of the race.

  • Options

Hiya. It will be my first half-marathon so I'm not sure about a predicted time. I'm hoping to make it in 2 hours or under. Mainly, I just want to enjoy it and see what I can do! Then on to the next challenge . . . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone's training is going well.

    Well done Captain Haddock.

Sorry..............looks like I spoke too soon!

Healing vibes being sent to all who need them!!!

Well, ran the Ryedale 10 today - which should actually be called the Ryedale 10 and three quarters!!!!!! At the 10mile point I'd managed 1 hr 25 and managed to get to finish line by 1hr 29.36 or summat like that!! Really enjoyed it. Sooooo - it looks like 1hr 55 is a good target for the Cumbrian half and if I get to the finish any sooner than that I'd be delighted!!!

Anyone else have a race today? If so, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I'm starting to think that I'll reduce the amount of 10ks I do and start doing more 10 milers. And if I enjoy the GCR - and I reckon I will (!) I'll enter halfs on a regular basis as well.

A work colleague wants me to apply for the FLM - she has already applied. Given that I've really been running seriously now for about 6 months, would that be too soon for my first marathon (obviously, the chances of being accepted are quite slim anyway). Also, is it true that training for a marathon makes you more likely to get injured? I guess it is so much more intense that wear and tear start to have an effect on the poor old joints etc.

Have a lovely, relaxing Sunday evening all!!!!
