Just arrived back home in Scotland after a fantastic day oot running to Blaydon along that Scotswood Road.
Managed to knock off six and a half minutes from my time last year and I'm well chuffed at 50 mins 43 secs. (I'm not the fastest you understand, only been running for a couple of years!)
In fact all of my six chums from the Penicuik troupe hit a PB for Blaydon tonight.............a great trip home on the train.
Must have been the nice weather (for a change!)
Well done again to the organisers and everyone who took part, see ya next year!
What happened to the rain??? There were even complaints that it was too warm!! No pleasing some folk. Got closer to the elusive 40 mins but still could not get past it. Next year... My only criticsm of what is an excellent piece of organisation is that the mile markers are too small. So I miss them. So cannot comment on the relative lengths of miles 2 and 3.
Again, like the North Run, well organised by the officials but not by the runners themselves! Why do runners who know they are going to have to walk almost immediately, start near the front? I nearly went into the back of at least three walkers before we even got off Westgate Road. I agree with mile two being short as I tried to make up for the first mile being slow (see above) by hammering it in the second - ended up sub six minutes, which I wasn't expecting. All in all, it was a really enjoyable evening and finished in 36:57. (Did anyone get a Nike spot prize?)
A splendid evening, and a PB on the course of 36:35. I would agree with miles 2 and 3 as well, but that just adds to the fun. There seemed to be more bands this year too, which was nice. No spot prize, indeed wasn't aware that there were any. Were they good? I like this year's T-shirt too. It will get worn a lot more than the FLM one!
I heard a Nike official saying there would be socks, vouchers, etc. in the bags - nothing too exciting. The bands were very good, as was the support in Blaydon. Well done Jim Dewer.
I got a voucher for a pair of Nike socks from Start Fitness in my bag, which I intend to redeem this afternoon, so maybe thats it, hooray. I've also got a £5 voucher for being 3rd placed M40 at the Team Valley 10k, so I can spend that too, my first ever prize !
I finally got back to have a look at everybodies results. I managed a PB of 39:45. Mile 2 was definitely short, I had splits of 7min-6min-8min for the first 3 miles. Nice to run in the dry though.
The results are in the journal today. my time is wrong but I think that's because I was quite a way up the hill at the start and I started my watch in front of the Cathederal. I suppose the positions will be still be correct. Finished 364th. Anybody entered the Sunshine run on the 9th July?
Do any of you fancy a trip into the country on Sunday 20th July? My local club is hosting a 10k road race on Country Lanes. Starting and finishing in Wooler it forms part of a festival of music, arts and crafts etc. so bring the family. There will be prizes for first three male and female, vet male, vet female and team of three. Various spot prizes. Refreshments available before and after the race. Last year there were about 100 entries.
Hi Minni, I would love to have come up to wooler, as I have friends living there that i haven't seen for ages, but unfortunately (well, not really) I'll be running around Switzerland on 20 July. I should be at amble this Sunday though for their multi terrain 10k ish
Can't make Wooler, I'm doing the Coastal Run. 14 miles from Beadnall to Alnmouth. 1st time, supposed to be a very interesting run, depending on the tides.
Can I ask all of those who know their numbers how they got them (i.e have you had your number sent through the post, or a confirmation e-mail etc). I entered online, the first day the race opened but haven't recieved anything as of yet? Thanks
Yeah, just noticed myself that it's 6 years old! I was wondering why people were talking about lining up to start in bin bags last year when it was a really hot evening....

No promises, but you can send me an entry form. Sounds a lot easier than Ian's run around Switzerland - too many BIG hills!!
GAtSR - send me an email at:
woolerrc@msn.com
and I will forward an entry form. Hopefully you'll be able to make it.
Good luck in the Coastal.
