SL - there's roughly 28 individuals and 4 relay teams, so about 40 altogether, several dropped out through illness/injury. Oh, and not forgetting one junior Pirate doing the Junior Challenge race on Saturday (Artful Hen's son).
I guess you didn't read back - you were asking about bike shops and I said you could borrow my Trek bike if you want although I know you didn't like the one you had. I sold the Centurion you borrowed before, sorry!
Yep - but last year was like 2007. We'll bring the Trek for you, just don't forget your pedals! Plenty of room as LJS is "only" swimming the relay so won't need to bring a bike - unless he decides to spectate on an MTB bike like we did last year, it's pretty easy to follow people's progress by cutting across. Anyway, no prob, if we drive down in the Doblo like before there's bags of room.
He's doing the Cologne12 swim race this Sunday - 6 laps around the Fuehlinger See. We got the last minute info yesterday, refreshments will be set out on pontoons, one at each end of the 2km lap. Electrolyte, cola, sports bars, bananas - presumably all food in bite-sized pieces, and please don't throw the cups into the water!
Right, off to dog club training - and anyone who thinks this can't be classed as cross-training has obviously never tried restraining 40 kilos of muscle and bone that's trying like hell to get at the "bad guy". Zuppy had quite enough holding on to Oz while LJS went off somewhere!
Not so's you'd notice. And so you know, you swim down one side, round a bouy, back up PAST where you started and on to the dam, then turn around and head back for home. can't go wrong, there's a long line of canoists patrolling the center of the canal. It's known as a very fast swim course. Of course, if you're not a particularly fast swimmer (which I'm not) you'll notice quite a bit of choppiness as later starters begin overtaking you on the way back.
Oh and depending on how early your start time, (so at least all the female pirates) pick a pair of goggles that will prevent glare - going down to the turnaround you will be swimming towards the rising sun.
Thanks IW - I'm so grateful for your on the spot help - it's fab!
I've recently started starting my OW swims mid pack - i probably get on their nerves, but i want to get used to the choppiness of that and the fact that it seems to slow me down - I need to be able to get into a pattern quicker, I think.
Just read back - there must be a race on soon because the thread's picked up .
As IW said, my Junior Pirate is racing in the Youth race - it's on Friday evening I think so if anyone's around then and wanting to get some cheering practice in, he'd love the attention!
Reading back, am very glad I don't have a clue what I've let myself in for and no time target to go for except 'before they take the gantry down'. Am enjoying the freedom from targets that have made my last few marathons a bit of a disappointment.
Tonka!!! Welcome back for Forum Land.
Also very happy that I think I've persuaded my husband that coming to Roth, drinking beer and wearing yellow won't be such a bad way to spend the weekend of 17/18 July, even if he does have to share a tent with a gibbering pirate.
Last loooong bike this weekend. 105 miles at the Great Western Sportive around Swindon.
I'm doing 105 miles this weekend, about 70/80 next weekend, then god knows after that. It's got to the stage where I'm not considering 70 miles 'long'!

Always glad to be of service.
Not nearly enough! still got one 100-miler to do. And my run training is practically non-existent!

Have got actual butterflies sitting here!
I'm looking forward to riding during the day time back home in the UK in fresh air ah!
This weekend and the next one and then I think I am on orders to sit and put my feet up
