Wilkie, you are lucky, seeing as how my parents and OH's parents have all passed away, where and with whom to spend Christmas isn't a worry. We will spend that weekend at home with our two dogs, just like every other weekend of the year.
Story of my life lately - we booked to stay at a riding school hotel for Wed/Thurs/Fri next week because it's my birthday on Thursday, now OH has been told he has to be in another city on that day to attend a mandatory meeting. Maybe I'll book some extra riding time, haven't been over any fences on a horse for years.
Nam, I love the Mittenwald area, it's great for XC and ski touring too.
'tis where we used to go when I was ickle and Calfie loves Germany (goes there for work a lot). Because the week before Christmas is still pre-season got great accommodation (own flat in Heidi house...) for 25.00 Euros per night for the flat (not per person... so £10 each a night for a lovely place!! Also nabbed return flights Manchester-Munich for £60ish each.
I have noticed going to work a house that has Christmas lights up outside already. Also the hotel down the road has a tree and wreath up in it's entrance. This was noticed whilst sitting in my car with the air conditioning on in August.
It is for me. I'm running Xmas operations for my firm. Getting Christmas crackers, wrapping paper, cards, mulled wine, Christmas condom holders, catalogues and even flipping Christmas displays.
Just to warn you lot. Give it one month, every shop will be celebrating Christmas.
Just had a look at these condom holders. Its a bauble with flashing lights where you can put your condoms in and hang them on the tree. There's a angel and santa version where you can stick the condoms too.
Will people be posting their cake recipes when they are being baked - I made one last year and it was a real disappointment I'd like to do a good one this time.
(I do have a really fab neighbour who used to work in the navy and every year he makes us a fruit cake and on Christmas eve gives us a large fresh cream black forest gateau with loads of booze in it - it always arrives just in time for my annual Christmas eve party...
I've always used Delia's last minute cake which has jars of mincemeat in it - it's ususally really nice but last years was dry and nasty. (And it has half a bottle of brandy poured into it as well! *hic*
TBH, I put all the dried fruit in a bowl and add the brandy. Then as soon as that is absorbed I add more brandy. As soon as that is absorbed I add more brandy etc etc unti the fruit takes in no more alcohol. That way, you get lovely swollen fruit but the boozey taste is not overpowering
I was just about to say Delia's Christmas cake recipe is brilliant In fact i'm going to buy the ingredients tonight and make it....the quicker it is made, the more time is left to intermittently soak it with brandy in the run up to Crimbo
I can't remember if this is what Delia advises anyway, but i always let the fruit soak overnight in the brandy....puffs up the raisins etc very nicely, and stops the cake drying out.

UI - it doesn't feel lucky. One man's meat, and all that, but I'd much rather it be just the two of us.
I can't even try that one - my workplace closes down over Christmas and New Year. I've never considered that to be a bad thing before...
Ding Dong Merrily on High
Anyway, I'm not going to think about Christmas any more until after my holiday next month!
By then it'll be mid-OCtober, and just about bearable
wrapping paper, cards, mulled wine, Christmas condom holders, catalogues and even
flipping Christmas displays.

Must get back to work.
My thoughts exactly Nam!!! WTF are those?!?
You got me all excited Schmunks; I was hoping for a pic of some clothes-less, hot man

Now popping back to work.
