As I haven't done this one before I thought I might pop along to Baggeridge one weekend and do a recce. Can anyone point me towards a map or have any pointers on route the race takes?
Couldnt say exact route but it starts on the main field at Baggeridge, goes up and down around the lakes and woods etc, you end up along Himley stream, up around the woods there, back across (or should I say literally through the stream, cold but full of laughs!), then along the small tarmac road back into Baggeridge. If you just run all over Baggeridge you will have it covered, its a great fun race and I can't wait to do it again!
Thanks for that - I think I'll take a look in the next couple of weeks but I think I'll give the stream crossing a miss though! Everyone I've spoken to so far says I must be mad to do this one and if they have done it before, say they'll never do it again. I guess you just must be a special kind of person to enjoy this type of thing!
Anyone know where the water crossing is? I ran round baggeridge/himley at the weekend and there are a couple of contenders. My daughter wants to spectate and make sure I get through it ok (or more like have a good laugh when I do a face plant into it!)
No seriously, I ran round there a couple of weekends ago and there's a mix of mud, grass, hardpack trail and even a very small amount of tarmac. Its pretty slippy in places and the odd short steep bit here and there. I'm opting for a trail shoe - Mizuno wave Harrier or Inov-8 flyrocs depending on on how wet it is on the day.
Short spikes would be ok, better still off road shoes like Walsh's etc. It will be very slippy using road shoes as there is a lot of mud and remember those dreading Jacobs ladder steps.
Take a look at the photo's from last year's event to see the terrain.
I shall be doing the results after I have taken the photo's at the Water jump, so please give me a wave.
Thanks for the info everyone, and for the pics Brian! By the way, I must say thanks for the photos from the Wolves half - for once I had one of myself that I actually liked and wasn't too embarrassed to show people
Looks like I'll be in short spikes then (6mm), depending on how my ankle feels (currently recovering from an ATFL sprain). I'm reluctant to get new shoes as a) I'd only ever need them for this race and b) I don't want to risk aggravating the injury with anything I haven't worn before.

If you go onto Explore on the Garmin Connect website and type in Baggeridge Country Park, you'll find the route.
Hope this helps!
you'll like this race, nice and flat with a bit of a water crossing.
Don't wear your best shoes!
I have heard alot about this one, i walk the dog in the park and that alone is a bit of struggle
Think this run may justify a nice pint of Bathams in the Britania upper gornal after!
Bring it on!
I'm doing this for the first time and HATE cross country! I see it as good mental preparation to start marathon training again in the new year.
What sort of shoes should I wear? I have either road shoes or spikes. (And many, many pairs of stilettos but I'm guessing those won't be appropriate).
Stillettos are a must!

What have I let myself in for??!
Is it actually flat or r u jokin? Cuz baggeridge is ful of little hills rite?
There are defiantly hills almost from the start and then near the finish there are some very steep steeps (Jacobs’s ladder).
It’s not the hardest of races but with the bottle neck at the start and then leading up to the first climb it’s never going to be fast.
There is a lot of mud, the water crossing and usually soggy leaves but it is a very scenic course and I would say fun to run.
Any one give me a lift from great barr , or want to share with me? Carbon foot print and all that.
Weather Forcast says it should be Frosty and Dry.
