Well back from paris in my supporting role, would sooner be on the running side of the fence though.

DT...give a well done to laura, fab time and i hope she's made up. Did you get my text, as you never replied. Thought it a bit strange when i got one back saying "can i take your order" from Al's kebab shop. image

GE....Thanks for the company over the weekend, it was good to share a few beers. It wasnt the best of starts for you in paris and it got worse when your team got thrashed 3-0 image
You still got a great time and at least you can give it a good shot in edinburgh.

Caz...Mr CS says that you always have an headache........Ooh matron. image

GE, sorry to hear about the shite you experienced in Paris, but you still managed a very good time - you sir are a rock, well done fella you should be proud.

DT, please pass on my congrats to Laura, an excellent time especially considering tough conditions - really goodimage

Caz, you know the drill!!! Naught step m'lady for running and not being prepared adequately, go on off you go, 1 minute for each year of lifeimage

Fi, c'mon whats happening Sunday? Birthday, Anniversary???

GP, nice to hear from you, you sound in good heart fellaimage

    Evening all!

first things first, GE....what on earth!? mate i had no idea you'd had such a rough time out there! for future ref, if you EVER get caught out like that again the please just let me know and if im in the same City i'll be straight there to help out however i can (same goes for all you guys) glad your sister managed to sort things out for you at least, sorry we never got to catch up either, couldnt find that Malt place for love nor money on Sat so ended up just watching the Utd game...which was prob a good idea considering the scores!

So yep, i had a slightly better time over there! and ive got to say, being a supporter is bloody knackering work! Laura was an absolute trooper (thanks for all the goodlucks, congrats, ive passed em all on!) know those of you that have met the missus may recall she is of 'English Rose' complextion, mainly due to her hatred of heat/sun, so it was with some trepidation that i broke the forecast to her!

made it round to the 9,19,30,35 and 42KM marks to support her, up until 30K she was handling it amazingly well and gave a bit of banter every time i saw her, i then saw her next at 35K, by now were at midday and its redders, and she did NOT look pleased to see me! i thought i'd motivate her by running with her for a bit before being told that 'sauntering along at my running speed whilst wearing  flip-flops isnt really helping me' i decided fair point and stepped of the course before she knocked me of it! she toughed it out though and finished in 4.32hrs, at 1st she was really upset with the time as she wanted 4.15hrs,

I soon made her see the light of her acheivements, and your messages helped perk her up. amazingly the next day she was walking fine and already discussing what to do different on her 'next' race!......another runner has now officially caught the marathon bug!

GP didnt get any message from you mate, did think it a bit odd as i'd asked GE to make sure you had my number? came to 30KM to see if i could spot you (was told thats where you'd be) but alas, i had to continue my solo support! taking of which did you not notice a massive St Georges flag at the above KM ponts GE? that was me! image

Caz,  thought of you when checking out the Disney stand at the expo, those medals are immense!

Dave, I also checked out the Comrades stand whilst there...........

So now onto Sunday.......no niggles whatsoever, fully rested (if anything, to rested!) and the weather gods seem to be forecasting perfect conditions for us, theres no excuses left in the bank prior to this one!

Darren, I know you would have helped, mate, and at one stage I thought I'd have to give you or GP a ring. As it was, all was OK once the cards had been cancelled and I knew I could get hold of some cash. Sorry I didn't pass on number to GP. Can't remember being asked if I'm honest but my memories not what it used to be. And I missed the flag as well! Although in my defence after about halfway I couldn't see very much at all. Not good..... Mea Culpa.

WR, it's a good marathon to do. Really flat course round a great city. Some of the organisation's a bit eccentric. Not sure about oranges bananas and sugar on the feeding stations.

Thanks, Caz, onward to Edi now. But as Philby says you've been told about not drinking properly before!! You not going to get round Disney like that!!

GP, I enjoyed the company. Apologies if I whinged too much about the small problems of life and the shortcomings of my football team.

Anyway, the legs are recovering and new bits of plastic are starting to drop through the letterbox so all is slowly getting back to normal. Will leave it to the weekend before I put the running shoes on again. Then just ease back in gradually.

Just a quickie hello from me today as I'm busy busy busy.

Got to get my racing haircut this morning. I haven't had it cut since the wedding in November so it's a real birds nest at the minute but psychologically I think it will cut a few seconds off my time and I'll feel faster for it.

DT2 - I love the thought of you sauntering through the Paris field in flip flops and then dipping for the line. Very funny indeed. I'll be at Kings Cross/St Pancras area for around 4.15 on Friday afternoon and will drop you a text.

Caz, will be at Expo from around midday on Friday so drop me a text if you need anything

*toddles off to naughty step*  See you in 21mins... imageimage

Hahaha Darren, I can understand Lauras annoyance at you tootling along beside her in flip flops... I hope you'd had your gate analysed and them recommended from a specialist flip flop shop.   I feel her pain with the fair complexion... Soltan Once Factor 30 for me if there is even the chance of sunshine... I even bought Factor 50 for Edinburgh last year...

Just waiting for the balance transfer to go through on Mr Mastercard and then we're booking our places in the Goof.  Might have to go check my bank in a minute to see if its gone through yet...   I've only seen the medals on the internet, are they truly truly awesome in real life Darren???   Mr CS has been weighing up all the options on where to stay, which tickets to buy in advance etc.. I cant wait. *bounce bounce bounce*

You've not had your barnett cut since November Dave???  That'll shave at least a couple of seconds a mile off you long haired hippy.

How's the running coming on GP???  image  No more excuses Mister... get those trainers on and get your butt out the door.

I've told Mr CS we have to be sat in front on tele (red button) Sunday morning from 11 onwards to play spot the Willo & Whippet.

image....you may regret that offer Dave. Haha. image

Was thinking about you out running Caz and your Goofy challenge.  That is gonna be some task.  Half Sat - full Sunday.  Blimey.  And the early starts.  After Edi you said 'never again - no more marathons for me'..............so instead I'll sign up for the Goofy challenge.  Haha.  That's my kind of logic.  Love it. imageimage

Fi, c'mon whats happening Sunday? Birthday, Anniversary???

You are joking.............right?  The event on Sunday is waaaayyyy more important than birthdays or anniversarys - Can't believe Sky haven't bought the TV rights.  It's the 'Clash of The Titans' or more commonly known as 'The clash of Willo & Whippet'. image

Caz - from 11 onwards............? won't they be done and dusted, showered and changed and enjoying their first pint by then? image

GP - glad you enjoyed Paris.  Has it renewed your enthusiasm for running at all?

Darren - glad to see you haven't put Laura off running.  Disappointed with 4.32 image - first marathon in hot conditions she should be well chuffed.  And please tell me that you didn't have your long socks on with your flip flops..............imagine...........long socks, flip flops, St Georges cross flag......camera round your neck......knotted hanky on your head.................yup now I know why you were having to support solo.  Hahahaha. imageimageimage

    Take care all. x

image I know, I know... I said never again after Edinburgh but it would be a shame to go all that way and come home with just ONE medal when there are 3 lovely ones on offer.  It's going to kill me...  But what a wicked way to go.

Oooh do I need to get up earlier on Sunday... I was hoping to go out for a little run before settling down to watch the "Clash of the Willo & Whippet"  *to be read in booming voice over man voice*

It will be an amazing challenge for you.  Especially with your lurve of all things Disney. image  Ull have to bring the medals to Edi 2012 to show them off.  You'll be up there saying 'pah! half marathon.....easy peasy'.

Noticed London advertised the other night on TV - coverage starts at 830.  Know they do loads of interviews etc in the run up so not sure what time the race actually starts.

Dave/Darren...........where are you?  What is appertaining on Sunday timewise?

Just had look on website and Elite women go off first at 9.00 - wheelchairs next - think the main group head off behind elite men at 945.

    ...............oooooo.....I'm getting quite excited. image

  • Options

So I should be OK then plonking my bottom down in front of the tele at 11... Dave says he's taking his iphone down to London with him...he could always text us to let us know he's on his way when he gets to the 20mile marker or something couldn't he??  Be rude not to I think...

How long is his hair??? He went off to get it cut ages ago... image

We've already said we are taking as little as possible with us so we can go totally mental at the Expo and in Downtown Disney...  The credit cards & bank balance are not going to be pretty when we get back LOL.

If they're only heading off at 09.45 then i'm going to miss them finishing.
  • Options

Fi-Caz, I think you pair are more hyped up for this race than we are! its a 9.45 start so as long as youve got your bottoms parked on the sofa at around 12.30pm you should be good to play 'wheres wally'

i think the new featherweight Dave is only getting a haircut now after so long as he really is concerned a gust of wind might catch his barnet and blow him away like a dandelion! image

just been for my test run in race gear, i'll be wearing all black, tanner socks and yellow trainers (i didnt wear the socks on the test run, mean streets of Notts and all that!) felt great! ive also weighed in at 69KG which is the lightest ive ever been for a race (yet still a lumbering fatty compared to Willo!) must have been the Paris restaurant prices that helped get me under race weight!

Caz, the Medals are SO much better in the flesh, there huge! i tried getting a photo for you but there were to many people crowding around them image

Oh, and in regards to dave taking his iphone with him, If you girls wouldnt mind calling him every 5mins from 12pm on sunday that'd be much appreciated! image

There's going to be a Run Disney stand at Londonium Expo so if you'd like to pick up a sample for me that would be great. image

Well done to GE and Laura for your runs around Paris, great times in those conditions, sorry to hear about your troubles GE, there are some scum out there.

Good luck to Dave and Darren for Sunday (and anybody else if i've missed anyone), i'm recording the race as i'm camping at Ashbourne over the weekend so i'll miss it live but i'll be watching it as soon as i get home on Monday.

When I said I'm taking my iPhone I meant that it will be in my bag on the big lorry so I can text and get on here after the race whilst waiting around for DT2 image Only kidding champ!

Haircut completed and tried it out tonight at the South Yorks 5 mile road race. All my club mates were there and shocked to see me this close to London. "Don't worry " I said "Just a stretch of the legs"

I can honestly say it was a pleasant run and I admit I pushed a little but not to the extent that I was racing. So imagine my surprise to take 1.5 minutes off last years PB in 28:09 (thats 5:36 pace) I honestly felt that I could have gone at around 5:30 pace if I had to. I felt fantastic and don't have any excuses for not performing in London.

Thats me done now at home. Early train to London tomorrow as I'm working down there for a couple of days ahead of the big race on Sunday. Jo and the kids are coming down on Friday and we have a river cruise, open top bus tour and tickets for Wicked on Saturday.

Ooh that reminds me. Following the reviews of Jekyll and Hyde I checked out the Sheffield theatres and we have my all time second favourite bird starring in Tell me on a Sunday (or something) The one and only Claire Sweeney. I was straight on there to snap up tickets - She's mint!

Sounds like a fab weekend in London for you Dave with the family.................pity you've got that small matter of 26.2 miles to contend with on Sunday.  Haha. imageimage  Looks like the weather will be good for you as well so it's all systems go.

Can you believe Darren was trying to sabotage your run with us ringing you all morning? .................. do you think he is starting to get a bit jittery?  imageimageimage

Right boys.  Have a great time.  A fantastic race.  Make sure you wrap yourselves in cotton wool between now and Sunday.......don't go falling off any kerbs, slipping down steps etc.  Make the girls do all the carrying and lifting and waiting on you hand and foot..................Nah!  bit too extreme.  You both go out and have a fab run and ENJOY!!

Make sure you let us know as soon as poss how it went.  Good Luck! xx

Self, self, self some people... The least you could do is text us all on your way round to let us know you're not far off the finish and to make sure we're all sat in front of the tele... image

I've had a look at Edinburgh results as I didn't know how close the Willo & the Whippet were... there was only 2mins between you all the way round... you must have wiggled through a gap better near the start Dave.  Darren, you need to bush up on your shoving people out the way technique. image

Dave, Darren, all the best for Sunday. Can't wait to see how the "real" race developes image I am out at 6 am for a 20 miler to make sure I am back in time. I hope at the very least regardless of times/positions you both walk away having thoroughly performed to the levels you have in training, it's the very least you both deserve.

Right then guys, im heading out of the door now and LONDON bound!! image

will be meeting up with Willo straight from the train, its going to be like the weigh in at a boxing match with lots of trash talk and physching out.......either that or we'll go for a latte/juice like a pay of skinny little gayboys! esp if Dave has got his traditional go faster highlights done for this race! image

seriously though, thanks for everyones support over the past 4 months/in the build up to Sunday, youve all been a massive help/encouragement and regardless of what happens on Sunday we'll both be toasting a pint to all of you guys, if Carlsberg made running forums......... image

    imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Have a good one both.  Can't wait for the full race blow by blow account.

And enjoy that pint...............you deserve it.   Infact you deserve it sooooo much...... why don't you push the boat out and have two. imageimageimageimage

  • Options

Hey Fi... they haven't trained THAT hard... Two pints indeed... Teeheehee

Have a good one you two, will be glued to the tele on Sunday morning... Was saying to Mr CS last night that it could be like that bit in Run Fatboy Run where they both shove past the Kenyans, the banter you two have been having over the past few months... image

    Hi All,

Just found out that this year there will be NO gels available on the course. For environmental reasons Lucozade have swapped the gels for bottles of Body Fuel. I checked out the calorific content and found the Body Fuel liquid is 28cals per bottle (compare with nearly 300 cals for a gel).

Watch out if you were planning on getting some fuel at the so called "Fuel stations"!!

Hi AlAt, you've stumbled on the 2010 Edi thread which won't be put out of it's misery but keeps luring in 2011 Edi runneers. Most of the people on here won't give a stuff what's at the feeding stations as the majority who are turning up there this year are doing the half and will be refuelling in the pub.

Having said that, I am doing the full marathon and I'm not sure your figures are correct. I've used Lucozade Sport at the majority of the marathons I've done and found it very good. The one time I've tried gels was in Paris last weekend and I had an awful race.

By my calculation, a 300ml bottle of Sport will have 84 cals, the SIS gels I used have 86 per 60ml gel so there's not really anything in it.

But I'm no expert so I might be missing something.

Good luck Darren and Dave, hope you both do really well tomorrow. Certainly deserve to with the training you have put in. And Phil that is dedication, getting up at 6 so you can be back in time to watch it. If I did that I'd be in danger of falling asleep in front of the TV.

Took my kids to my favourite shop in the whole wide world (sportsshoes in Bradford) on Thurs and bought them each a pair of Mizuno Junior Crusaders. Going to drag them out for a run this afternoon. They both have runner's physiques (as skinny as a Dave) so hopefully they'll take to it ok.

Hi TWU, trust me getting up at 6am is going to be so so easy, I will really enjoy this 20 as I will genuinely be getting motivation thinking of events to unfold down South in a few hours time. Dave and Darren will hopefully have an excellent day and I am really looking forward to reading their accounts of it - god, how childish I am, but you know I am 47 but running and coversing with the guys and gals on this forum makes me feel like a 20 something - you gotta love this placeimage

Absolutely brilliant to hear of a parent introducing their kids to running, our society is being so badly affected by child and adult obesity, I take my hat off to you Sir - tell your kids well done from me.

  • Options

Hi TWU what age are your kids. My boys are 4 and 6 and I don't know if that's too early to start them. They both want to start running but at the minute I just go cycling with them.

final check in, looks like its going to be a warm one tommorow! image super tanner socks are being ditched in favour of a standard length edition!......if Dave beats me im blaming it on the socks! image

see you all on the other side! fingers crossed its on the right side of 2.45hrs!

    goodnight all!
