I'm sure there must be some young 'uns (or maybe just compared to me...)
Actually I think you just have to be over 12. Don't think there is an upper age restriction. Seems to suggest you need to be "truly inspirational".
I'd probably watch it - assuming it was passing very nearby and I didn't end up having to hang around for hours on end in a crowd... actually... what am I saying ? Of course it would involve hanging around for hours on end in a crowd !
No point in more than one person nominating someone because the initial ballot will only allow one nomination for each person................and then when they have reduced the numbers and have X for each region..............then they read the stories and choose..................
and yes they want old people as well but will be selecting actively.............so that 1/2 are under 24

There you go letting facts get in the way of a brilliant idea and dashing my hopes of starting a campaign to sweep a chosen forum member to national prominence.
Beat me to it seren - I was thinking of Mick but then realised it won't matter how many of us nominated him he'd still have one entry in the raffle to get the story read.
I really do think that MicknPhil is a good idea. But I am not good at story writing! Which I guess is what they want. They will need Micks story, which I know has been a hell of a struggle but I don't know all of it. I will ask him if he would mind first though.
you only want one nomination as you want that one to be written brilliantly................
stolencar..............i didn't read that anywhere.............is that a guess or fact
I am busy working on my nomination..but not good at words............ i think it's a shame its a ballot first.......but at least if he doesn't get to be a torch bearer I can say it was the ballots fault......not my lousy writting
Stolencar.....thanks for that link....they missed that off the publicity material..............
I am feeling gutted now................they want incredible worthwhile indiviuals..............but not as much as the corporate monsters................says exactly what the olympics stands for
I think the logistics of the 8,000 is confusing. Seb Coe comes out and say half are expected to go to young people. So that's 4,000. While 6,000 are going to sponsors who will probably be stars, celebs and sponsors employees.
I remember Seb Coe saying that a London Olympics will be the people's games. As ever, never seems to be true.
I'll be carrying the Torch through my home village. It's 0.2 mi in total. Trying to see what's the slowest pace I can run and still look vaguely cool. Think around 14min/mi should be slow enough to eek out those precious seconds!
forgot about this thread...I did nominate my son through coca-cola as a deserving youngster and he got through........
we do have to travel over 20 miles away to carry it......when the next day it will be less than 2 miles away.....and people will be travelling from the other area to carry it here.......
seems like you were lucky to get your home village Martin....
My son will have to get up at the crack of dawn to his AS level exam before he goes for the torch
Comments
Watching the torch go by is of even less interesting to me than watching any of the sports.....
So, who's going to be out there on the streets, cheering the torch on its way?
I was thinking we should pick someone and nominate them to carry it. Just imagine how many nomications for the same person this forum could generate

What about it Wilkie ? If you don't fancy it then any suggestions ?
they are looking to fill most of the places with young people........haven't seen many young people around these parts
not sure why.but i think i would like to see the torch procession......only part of the olympics that can be seen by the rest of the country

Count me out.
I reckon MicknPhil would be great at this...
No, thanks, Weevil!
I don't think I'm likely to fulfill the "truly inspirational" part.
Mick and Phil would be a great idea.
they're gonna fecking struggle when it travels between Brighton and Hastings then
That's very ageist, isn't it?
Haven't they heard of the Single Equality Act? Are they saying that older people have no value?
I bet most of the people buying tickets are "older" people, with the prices they're charging an' all!
Well said ! I find that truly inspirational.
just to wait for a stick with a flame on top.

Back to the drawing board I guess.

Arese about face if you ask me
I will ask him if he would mind first though.

Seren, they mentioned on the local news yesterday that of 8000 carriers, places are only available for 2000 nominees.
I'm at the first overnight stop after Lands End, but can't see myself going to watch to be honest.

Actually I was wrong about the 50% figure it is indeed 75% going to 'sponsors' as Lord Coe calls them
Olympic flame to terrify Wales
good 'ol Mash!
Hahahaa!!!!
I'm thinking of going to see it as there are 4 places within reach of me that I can combine seeing the torch with a day out.

Nominated by Lloyds TSB for my charity work.
