As a new Purple Patch runner, I've just signed up for this! YAY! I think it will be a good warm up for the Loch Ness marathon in October..... Right, better crack on with the training now!!
I've emailed Claire, requesting the route. I originally requested it back in May, and was told that it would shortly be posted on their web site. This has not happened yet, so I have reminded Claire of this unfulfilled undertaking.
The idea to bid on numbers other than 1 was released in the local media as well and that is where the £200 bid has come from - whether it is for number 1 or not you will never know
I know you are all waiting for the route but as it involves road closures etc it has to be scrutinised by various regulatory bodies and until they give us the green light then I am afraid we all have to wait a wee bit longer. I think we should be able to release it on Monday though so keep checking the PP website
Thanks for that update Claire. The thing I'm interested in is whether it is going to be a "fast" route, or whether it involves (for example) stretches of narrow riverside path where bottlenecks can occur.
SlowT - thanks for the link. I love the3D flyover, though it does make it look incredibly flat from up there . Also seems a very long way. I started wondering if they were flying round in circles Lots of major roads if they're doing closures.
Auction of Numbers: This has now closed but until 12th August you can email and ask us for a specific number. If it is free you can have it for a fixed donation of £10 to The Link Foundation via http://www.justgiving.com/PurplePatchRunning
Route: Full and partial road closures will be in place so that the route is traffic free
Entries: we are now up to 1500 but there is room for plenty more
Can anyone with knowledge of Maidenhead let me know what you think the chances are of there being spaces available in the 2 free car parks as shown on the Purple patch website. Never been to Maidenhead before.
Also never done a big event before a distance from where I live where I've had to pick up the race number. Any thoughts on if arriving at 8:30 is sufficient to collect numbers and get to the start???
Brian,i have no knowledge of Maidenhead but i would say 8.30 is to late.I am looking at around 8 myself, get a parking space, check out the start/finish area, collect number and game on.
Ok, I am confused. It looks like The Broadway is closed from 8am, yet this road takes us to one of the car parks. Does this mean we need to park before 8am? When does The Broadway close?
Paul Terrill - here's the FB reply from Purple Patch:-
"Officially Broadway is closed from 8am, so it would definitely be advisable to arrive before then if you plan to use car park 1. If you plan to arrive later you would be best advised to use car park 2 off the A4 - the walking distance to the start is almost identical, approx 5 minutes."
A really enjoyable route, just a shame about the small downpour.
Personally I had a really bad run, but attribute that to a variety of personal issues rather than anything to do with the race itself. Still, I managed a PB which I am happy with. Still chasing that sub 2 hour though...
Yes, well organised, other than I couldn't hear a word of what was being said pre-race over the speakers. Great support on route. Baggage was good. Number/chip collection fast and efficient. Only waited a few minutes for the loo.
The support was surprisingly good for a semi-rural race.
The marshalling was very efficient - and most marshalls were very encouraging.
Chip removal excellent.
Negatives:
1) The start was a bit of a fiasco. I`m not sure who decided to put that first small loop in but it wasn`t very well thought through. The lead runners completing the small loop came piling into the back of the main field which was yet to start. Others who had just started became confused and in some cases missed the small loop altogether and went straight into the big loop (had to be called back by the marshalls). One runner I spoke to, did 2 small loops in the confusion, .
2) Baggage lorries seemed a bit chaotic. A number of people had to wait for ages to get their bags. I was one of the first back - still took them about 10 mins to find my bag.
All new races have teething problems and this one was no different - but I think it was a cracking eventand would recommend it to anyone. Well done and thank you to the organisers.

cheers, run like the wind. Looks like a 6:30 depature for me!
Paul Terrill - I've asked your question on the FB page so hopefully between that and here we'll get an answer to your question.

Well organised so thank you.

No banana left for me at the end .
A good race and potentially a very good one.
The course itself was delightful.
The support was surprisingly good for a semi-rural race.
The marshalling was very efficient - and most marshalls were very encouraging.
Chip removal excellent.
