ok.. so.. 3 of you haven't.. but apparently US sales are ovr 16 million, UK sales are over 3 million in the last month and it sold over 200,000 in one week...
So... it seems to be rather popular...
Apparently there is a film on the way........ any guesses for whether that will be popular with the ladies too..?
Lol Nurse! I have to say they're not as full on as i was expecting, especially the BDSM stuff. Nothing particularly outrageous really, and i'm sure stuff a lot of folk get up to normally, without feeling they're indulging in bondage or the like. It could be a lot more sadistic, lol!
I'm not. But I think how it came to be so popular is very interesting and a very clever strategy that I'm sure lots of new authors, and not very good, will be copying. The series started life as Twilight fanfiction which was apparently wildly popular with hundreds of thousands of fans. EL James decided to change names of her characters, remove Twilight references and take it to publication with a small Australian company, now its been resold to a UK publisher (and a US publisher, and the film rights have been sold) but some critics are arguing that if it hadn't started off life as a Twilight story and essentially piggybacked on its rabid popularity and dedicated (? / obsessed) fanbase , then it would never have made it to publication.
I might start combing the fanfiction websites to see if I can spot any stories that I can tweak and republish
If i'd known it was Twlight related i would have avoidedit like the plague; i thought all those books were shit. Weel i got a couple of chapters into the first one before giving up because they were so shit
I know! I had free tickets to an event EL James was speaking at, and I was curious about the hype so went along - she's very open about the origins of the story. And apparently she has a backcatalogue of fanfiction that she's thinking of turning into more books. You've all been warned!
If you've read the Da Vinci Code then you've also read every single other Dan Brown book because they all follow the same formula (long holiday in wet and windy remote village a few years ago, the cottage only had 5 books and 4 of those were by Dan Brown)
I'm not going to bother, from what I've heard the writing is dreadful and the plot line almost non-existant. There are (I'm sure) far better examples of erotica out there without jumping on this particular bandwagon.

Yeah OK, I got the whole box-set as a present! They're sort of ridiculously readable in a cartoony, Tintin-plot-paced kinda way, plus if you just imagine every female character looking like Audrey Tautou...

That's not really a bad thing, better than imagining every male character looking like Tom Hanks!
Not read it and wasn't planning to. Did give in and read the Da Vinci Code and also watch the film, thought the book was a lot better than the film. Don't plan to read any other Dan Brown books though.
I'm not, and it creeps me out how everyone is talking about it, it's like some mass mutual masturbation thing.
Also I wish people would stop reading it on the Tube, especially when they are fat and unattractive, and please Facebook friends, do not tell me you're off to bed with a "glass of red and a copy of gray".

I'm not
Nor me
I've already read it
I won't be - sounds like vile crap...
I'm not.
Really doesn't interest me.
IMHO, it is utter nonsense.
I'm not. Doesn't really appeal, but might at some point just to see what the fuss is all about.

That's exactly why I read it - to see what the fuss was about. The first one was enough for me, i can't be bothered with the rest.
I'm not bothering with either either!
Haven't read them.
Judging purely on the reviews, bit too tame for me

I read The Da Vinci Code "to see what all the fuss was about".
It was a present, honest!

no haven't been interested enough......never read much anyway anymore
I've not/am not, and don't intend to.
It doesn't sound like my cup of tea, and all the hype has put me off even further.
That's not really a bad thing, better than imagining every male character looking like Tom Hanks!

I gave into the hype and started to watch Mama Mia - OMFG what a load of shite! Thankfully it was dvd and not in the cinema...awful!!
