As a backup option there is a hotel / apartment complex I used as part of a camp last year- 100 Yds back from the strip.... 200 east from route 66( you will come to know that place.....) I think they are the apartmentos arena dorada. Basic, cheap and shareable ( 2 per apartment???)
They has availability last year (the campers I was with went back there....)
I don't think there is too much rush as its not peak season and there is loads of accommodation there.....
At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Fairy , is it worth starting a list for those interested in getting a Pirate pad, and which days they are planning to be there??
I'm not a qualified list person, but I'll give it a go. Think this is everyone:

wonder if anyone can help, ive had a look on the website but cant find a race week schedule
Basicly im thinking of doing thurs-thurs. but is thursday the last day you can pick up your race pack and register? (or whatever you have to do) Feel i might be cutting it a bit fine?
Going over with the mrs and daughter so be good to have a few days to chill out after the race
Thursday would be fine that is usually the day when the expo opens and the last time you can pick up number et.c is on Satuday
But the race is on Saturday....this may explain why you spend so long in T1 M...eldy - you nip into Registration to pick up your number before getting on the bike??
Pingu mentioned something about a Thursday briefing????
The pre-race meeting is mandatory for all competitors, and will give you valuable advice and information. The meeting will take place at the Square in Club La Santa, on Thursday, 16th May between 15.00 - 18.00 hrs. (15.00hrs English, 15.45hrs German, 16.30hrs French, 17.15hrs Spanish)
Transition bags
Bike and run bags must be checked in on Friday, 17th May in the transition zone in Puerto del Carmen, between 15.00 - 18.00hrs
The Lanza 2012 Athlete's guide (see link below) says there was registration available on the Friday this year, though remember its on the other side of the Island (at Club La Santa) to where youll need to rack your bike later in the day.
Some Ironman races let you register and rack on the same day (i.e. the day before the race), and it looks like Lanza does. Some races expressly stipulate no registrations accepted on the day of racking.
Useful link barlist, nice one I'll have a proper look later, I think flying out on the thurs is a bit late really, would like to swim a few loops before sat, get used to the heat etc.
Been looking at flights online but no company seems to give the option of taking a bike box?
Comments
Walk up the Hill Mouldy? I thought Lanza was flat?
I like the idea of a joint pad

Yeah I agree with OC .. no rush
The villa option worked and is good fun but the appartments were good as well and you can get away from people and retire
Personally I'd like to get the flights booked first before the prices start to go up
it was used in the loosest possible sense!
Blimey .. could be an interesting swim start!

Good idea Rafi and then we can see what sort of numbers we are looking at and when I have some time next week I can look at some options?
Can you stick Bassy on the list please, I am his PA

Is it ??
I thought it was Sunday ... not that it matters much
The answer is relatively the same you have a few days prior to pick up and register
I have been looking into my flights but I can't find any that go from my nearest hairport

Where's your nearest? Monach has flights up from Birmingham (prob others haven't looked) now. It's still a bit early for CheesyJet .

Jedward- I've not booked it yet, but on Monarch their FAQ says you can book bike box on scheduled flights for 20 quid per sector

I think Birmingham should work for me to, its 60 minutes on the train to BrUm airport for me.
Flight of Doom anyone
Yay, party starts at Birmingham
I might go from Brum if it makes it cheaper
Thats as may be Schmunks but I need to start on another sock for that one
