Me, well I am just a bit stunned that on this quit I have had no panicky desire to smoke and even before stopping the panic was diminishing. Dealing with the subconscious drive to smoke first is the way to go. This is sooo much better than the alternative of just "trying" to stop without doing the mental stuff first. Part of me though was expecting it to be hard(well that is what the ads tell us) such is the scarey message from the "willpower" methods. Of course it will be hell if you do not deal with the mental stuff first. Me being a mard arse prefers to take the easy route as I dont believe I will go to heaven by being a martyr and going about it the hard way. The hard way was way too hard for me and when I did try it I didnt like the prospect of felling vulnerable and having the urge to smoke 20 years on.

I am fine. Noticed that I am not as anxious as normal. Who says it helps your nerves? Do think aout them but it is how awful they are-lol
of course stopping can be hell if you dont do mental stuff first. It is then a battle bbetween you and yourself.

I'm gonna have a crack at it next week. Cliche i know, but if i don't set a definite date ill never do it. London Marathon next year too so an added incentive. Gonna be hard though!

I don't know if you've stopped smoking yet (haven't read the whole thread), but if you haven't, get yourself some nicorette nasal spray. This is how I kicked it, and now there is no more coughing and retching for the first couple of miles.
Hurts when you first use it ( burns your nose a bit ! ), but then you get used to it, and it's the strongest of all the NRT products, so it makes kicking the cancer sticks easier.

Hope you read book coz the mental prep is the most important thing. NRT is a red herring coz mental prep is the key IMHO. Carr & Casey are right on that front, for sure.
Haven't taken the plunge yet mate! Lots of mental preparation going on though, and last day smoking is the 1st Jan. Then hopefully as of the 2nd JAn, Marathon training starts in ernest which will help too.
I had a read of the Carr book. Some really good stuff there, and has definitely helped (or will help hopefully). So thanks a bunch for that.
Am looking forward to a smoke free life now, whereas i have never been that fussed in the past. So fingers crossed will hopefully nail it come the 2nd. Still gonna be tough though!

Best do mental prep first I rekon. The level of toughness is dependent on your mental prep. Read Carr again just before you stop and have that final cig when you are ready and confident.

Yesterday was 5 weeks without fags!
Did it completely cold turkey, no nicotine patches or electric fags etc - didn't see why I should replace with habit with another.
