nice one Alan - I did wonder if you were ever going to have another crack after the DNF at IMCH.....you should be better prepared mentally for Outlaw I reckon
Anyone know when this years outlaw will be on the telly? I must say I enjoyed the event but thought the atmosphere was better at IMUK (i did 2008 at Sherbourne) and I thought the event was better organised too.
Outlaw goody bag was naff, thought the race briefing/organisation was not as good and I felt let down in comparison to IM events.
Lee - I'm surprised by your comments as they're about the only negative ones I've heard about Outlaw - practically every report I've read on here and tripetalk has been very praising. I thought the support was excellent and it was a great event
yep - I agree the goody bag was naff (in comparison to the marshalls who had cracking ones) but I don't do races for goody bags - the medal and t-shirt (one of the best finisher ones imho) are enough. and as for the hi-5 race pack - I've had enough of that bloody stuff this year!
I certainly didn't feel let down by Outlaw - it's a different scale to IM but is still good for that
fyi - it's on Sky Sports 4 at 8pm on Friday August 27th.
The T shirt was good but thought the medal looked like something out of a cheap xmas cracker. I didn't see much support (from locals) en route other than a few in Southwell and whilst on the A52 I saw two cars slow down and boo other cyclists. I thought the whole "feel" of the event in general was "el cheapo productions present". I hope the event gets bigger and better.
Didn't say the event was poor just not as good as an IM event in my opinion. Also I was curious if anyone was getting an outlaw themed tattoo? No didn't do VLM nor have I seen the medal or T shirt.
stick "VLM Medal" into google images and you'll see....
I toyed with the idea of an O. but decided against - my M. tat is enough recognition of the achievement and if I had tats of every branded event I'd ever done, then I'd be covered in logos! there's a whole debate thread about m. tats around somwhere btw.....
I agree but I've been thinking about getting a general swim bike run tattoo for a while and wondered if anyone had incorporated an outlaw theme with it. My M dot is only really recognisable to other people that have done one. I get asked a lot what my M dot means and when I tell them I still get plenty of blank faces. I wouldn't get other races I've done tattooed but I assume ultimately the Outlaw wants to rival IM (in the UK at least?)

...someone poke me next year when I need to do something for this
I would if I even thought I could manage the swim buddha, but my OW swim capability at the moment is worse than useless. I plan to use next year to build that up and go for Ironman distance in 2012
I wish I could M.... but this time last year, I couldn't swim a stroke so I don't have enough confidence in my ability yet to commit. When would I need to enter this by?
You might well be knocking on an open door here ... many pirates have gone from non swimmers to IM in less than a year, it is possible with time and commitment I would not think there will be a need to enter this one too soon
lol yup, my OH couldn't swim a length of any stroke (well, not without 7 or 8 stops to hang on to the side) when he signed up for first IM, so you need a better excuse!
hmmmmmm, if only you knew how tempted I am at the moment.
the only other hurdle I have to get over is the fact that next year is the final year of my OU degree, I'll need to work out if I have enough time to study and train at the same time, if I have, then you've convinced me to enter. If not, I will definitely enter the following year
BTW, what do you mean when you talk about pirates?

hey ho
and if you thought it was a poor event you are thinking of an O. tattoo?? that seems bizarre
