If I may be so bold ... if you can find the time then I would be closer to 3 sessions of each per week rather than 2 Get the bricks in early Get a turbo Bike twice in to work ;-)
Meldy, I agree 3 is better but I have a 4 year old daughter and try to minimise my time away from the family so wherever possible I have to replace time commuting in the car with training or fit it before work or at lunchtime. I used the 2 sessions per week for most of IM Wales training and it worked fairly well, but not at the sharp end ( just under 13 hours). I never train after work during the week.
I am not going to start seriously training for this until January 2nd it is just to hectic a part of the year, but I managed to get an hours + plus trail run in followed by a quick sea swim in this morning, although we were scraping ice of the cars the water temperature wasnt to bad, so the plan is to try and carry on OW swimming throughout the winter as I am planning on doing the Slateman at Llanberris in May and those lakes are COLD at that time of the year so I am gonna try and toughen up some
Just been for a 30 minute run. Bit frosty, and strangely icy in places tonight. I hate this weather (I'm very similar to bambi!).
Think tomorrows cycling club bike ride might be in doubt, think I've convinced myself to have a couple of beers tonight, so quite how many I have may decide whether I cycle tomorrow morning or not. Failing that, it'll be a turbo session - the frost out there already may help me sink an extra beer tonight tho...
Week 1 done and dusted. Didn't have too much last night afterall but opted to dodge the club ride and get some extra sleep. Meant a boring session on the turbo this morning.
Bit worried about all the stuff you guys are doing - am I the only one following the 'Just Get Me Round' plan?
After having half drowned on my ride this morning, and had to start off 40 minutes before it got light, I'm with you, OC, in craving the the day that spring springs. That said, I had a proper giggle splashing through the puddles, and I know that I reaped the reward last year by staying consistent through the winter of filth..... so happy days .
Good run/swim yesterday. My swim coach (Mrs Slower who swims annoyingly like a fish) reminded me that swim training IS MEANT to hurt like buggery, and lactic acid is no excuse for slowing down. Resulted in me taking 13 seconds of my 100m split for Winterswim.... 1:34 which I'm happy enough with.
So after a CBA November, I'm feeling like I'm back on the rails! Off to put my points on the "something similar to last year" thread.
I spent the afternoon stood in a cold wet field whilst the OH ran the XC (which I should have been doing)but had a serious case of CBA's! Oh well a date with the turbo instead
Week one done for me but not quite to plan. Missed a bike and a run. Did 24 miles on the bike today -concentrated on keeping to a zone 2 heart rate and a little worried at the end to find out I only averaged13mph. Thank goodness there is plenty of time left to improve. Its going to be a long day in July.
Soup - I always only average 13mph. I've never had a problem with cut-offs Its a perfectly fine speed when you're training. You'll gain at least 1 mph on the day.
I CBA'd the bike ride Saturday. Got back home late and very tired. Not a very good start I know....XC today though. V good.
Soupy - When I do make it out on the bike I'm really enjoying the Z2 rides. It makes a change from hammering everywhere and it all seems so much easier.
My week 1 was a bit messed up with work (including all bloody weekend), and a mid week piss up. I tried to gain back some respectability by running three 6 milers late at night with my ever faithful dog, but I need to get down to the bike work.
My turbo trainer is a bit of a relic and although I've been using it, the amount of back wheel slippage prevents me doing anything other than fast, light spinning. I failed in an e bay bid for the same one that was recommended on here, but I didn't mind too much as the winner paid just as much as a new one from Wiggle .
As an aside, it's not really relevant but I loved this you tube training video narrated by my cycle club. I expect you could substitute most of the names used for someone you know.
Was out on the bike pre dawn, 40K and it still wasn't light when I got back, 8C as well FFS i don't have winter kit, supposed to be Zone 2 but quite a bit snuck into zone 3
Week One was OK for me, but I'm only running and cycling at the moment. Hopefully I'll get the all clear on a dodgy elbow to venture back into the pool later this week.
I'm planning 2 early morning starts a week Yuck!! But hopefully I'll get used to it

I start training for Outlaw on about May 27th so I'll have 4 weeks of training for the outlaw and a weeks taper
however,
so thats week 6 of IMLanza program. After a good start, things dipped down in Nov, but Dec is picking up
Can't wait for the days to start getting longer
