yeh.....that's pretty much what got me here in the first place - in combination with internet and credit card - and before yo know it, you've got a receipt for IronMan Lanzarote with your name on it !?!?! Ah well, how hard can it be..........
Similar weather, don't think so. The last two years Bolton has been overcast, a bit of drizzle and then sunshine on the run, but not overly warm. Lanza was a couple of degrees warmer
Agree Britrisky - the Ironman swim would be doable with that kind of swim base to build on, given you have 13 months to train until IMUK13, you won't have any problems.
Rafi - good book, but very scientific, one to dip in and out of a bit like Noakes Lore of Running.
I'll be taking a little break from swimming (and running) for a little while due to sliding off my bike over the weekend and popping a collar bone. It should heal quickly as it doesn't need pinning.
Holgs - I agree, but I'm a bit of book worm, and whilst I confess to reading your tome a couple of times, I do like getting stuck into Noakes on a rainy Sunday afternoon and getting to the bottom of all this training rubbish ! Knowing why I'm doing all these intervals makes therm less apinful somehow - or am I just sad (don't answer that Gas!!)
As Holgs says Friel can be a bit technical but some good points on time management and HR training zones.
IronDonk...take it easy mate, I came off my bike 5 weeks ago and fractured my fib and dislocated my ankle unfortunatly mine needed plating. 26 weeks training done and Outlaw dream over in a second. Cant wait to get back training, been on the turbo but only pedalling with one leg. Gonna be doing the 3k swim the day before. So take it easy out there guys
Im so tempted to sign up to this Half Ironman, but not sure if Im running out of time
My plans for the year was to do a few taster sprints & London Triathlon then see how I like it for IMUK
Just not sure where Im at
OW Swimming - I love & can do 1 mile in 29mins
Cycling - starting to like it but Need to speed up 21k in 57mins
Running - grrrrrrrrr Ive done 3 Marathons (4hr29 best) but I havent run for six months and finding that the hardest to get up to pace at the moment Im probably 10min mile
I have a Aquathon tonight, Great East Swim Saturday & a Tri Sprint next Sunday
It would be amazing to complete a 1/2 Ironman as it will be a start down this crazy road
Also I can hhave the entrants fee as a Father Day present
OUCH, IronDonkey & Razor51. Take it easy - nurse's orders - and get well soon.
Just been for a run with wolf. Unfortunately we're having to re-home her , but I am trying to focus on the positive - it will give me an hour of extra training time every day.
Mark - did the Monster in Ely last year, great race, flat course - I came second to last after a massive mechanical on the bike but still enjoyed the race/support.
Just read every single post in this thread I have just started (5 weeks ago) training for next years London marathon. I thought that this was a big deal (16 stone, 40 year old, smoker, haven't got off my butt in YEARS) until I read what you guys are up to! Blimey. Who knows - maybe after the marathon I will have to set my sights a little higher! I have started riding a mountain bike and have a 75 mile off road ride in September. I think a roady bike is on the books next year some time
Rafiki - yup i got a charity place with a charity called phab kids. I have to be honest - reading what seren nos just did with a double ironman.. and what you guys are all doing.. a marathon really is NOT that big a deal as I had thought.
My favourite part of this thread is just seeing the comeraderie and the support between the pirates. It's amazing. Oh and the way that these guys all crumbled and changed from 2014 to 2013 events was superb A great example of pirate mind control lol.

Good work Brit.
Im sure I will make everyone feel great in their trisuits
Bananaman is better than BananaLover
And don't worry about the lycra. Gas is doing his IM in a Pirate mankini
LOVE IT
You lot do worry me at times!!
But my copy of Joe Friel's book arrived just now (The Triathlete's Bible) , along with a case of wine I ordered - so guess that's my evening sorted!!
Excellent combination - the wine will make everything in the book seem do-able.

ha ha ha ha ha ha
MK - Lycra all the way. MAMIL & proud. I looked like a sausage according to my wife the first time i wore the Lycra
Britrisky - half IM swim in an hour, well done, IMUK 2013 is in the bag mate
IM Lanzarote does sound better than Bolton, although i predict similar weather

Me too - more books in our house ( two librarians ) than anything else. I'm just not a science nerd, Friel like Noakes does make a lot of sense.
As Holgs says Friel can be a bit technical but some good points on time management and HR training zones.

Mark, I think the half would be a bit of a stretch goal but quite doable!
Using your math above...
Swim + T1 about 42 minutes.
Bike + T2 about 4 hours 15 minutes.
Run about 2.5 hours.
Grand total is about 7.5 hours. Well within a normal cutoff.
Why not as long as you have time to prep. And with prep comes greater proficiency on the bike.

A race worth doing, I'll be back at some point.
Thx Ironholgs & IronYank,
Ill see how tonights goes & see how I do on the Sprint next week I guess.......
I know I can pi$$ the swim, get round the cycle like a snail & get up to a half marathon again ......... but its putting all 3 together

There's hope for us yet, chaps.
There's obviously no rush then....can take it easy, maybe postpone races till next year, the year after...
But good on the old boy! I have such admiration for guys (and laaaadies) like that!
Sounds like me that... only a couple of years younger.

Looking forward to following your progress
Amir - welcome. I was were you are a couple of years ago (apart from the weight). And a marathon is a big accomplishment!! Have you got a place yet?
But be warned - stick around here too much and you'll be signed up for a Ironman before you know it!!
Rafiki - yup i got a charity place with a charity called phab kids. I have to be honest - reading what seren nos just did with a double ironman.. and what you guys are all doing.. a marathon really is NOT that big a deal as I had thought.

Welcome Amir...... I got a very icy stare from my OH when I was looking at a T shirt the other week that had on the from...
"Oh How cute you have done a marathon.... Real athletes do 140.6"
Welcome Amir.
There's no escape................................................gastank will have you signed up for IM 2013 before you can blink.
See what I mean Amir, Dave's working on you already!!
But I like the sound of the tshirt!
Lol no way.. 2014 maybe
