I didn't make it to the start line in 2012 (of this or any other event) thanks to moving house and a new job role.
Entered last night in the hope I can find some time to train and I really have a lot of training to do - already a stone heavier than in March when I was training for the 2012 edition and can just about run the length of myself.
Good to see so many on the list, would be great to see people claiming PSOF as their club on the OSB entry list too and making sure their location is filled in, may help identify local training partners.
For example, i can see there is a Tom Millward from the High Peak listed. Tom, not one to be a stalker, but if you want a partner for some of the longer bike rides, drop me a message. I am based in Whaley and plan on getting in plenty of miles around the Peaks between now and next July.
Hehe stalker from the bridge, yeah that sounds like a plan. I'm quite often in Chapel, company on longer weekend rides would be good
What sort of training is everyone doing at the moment. Should I be trying to get an open water swim in (is it right they close over winter?) Is any road bike ok or does it have to be some sort of super light carbon bike with go faster stripes. Got a birthday coming up and have asked for a garmin 910xt. Anyone got one.

Would you guys mind if I made it a threesome at times.
SS From what I've learnt any road bike or a tri bike is fine, as long as it fits you. You have to be able to ride 112 miles on the bike and get off it without any back ache or shoulder ache etc. If you end up in pain on the bike your day can be over.
You can splash the cash and buy a lighter faster bike that will knock 30 mins off you time if you want to, but you don't need to.
It just needs to fit!
OW swim is up to you really , you need to do some before the day but you could start next year.
I've been in OW once on a british tri taster day, I couldn't yet front crawl but was pleased to find it was no more scary than being in the pool and a proper wetsuit makes you so buoyant is fantastic. Wetsuit is on my Christmas list.
Everyone says it's all about the bike so I'm going to get that sorted first.
I'm having a swimmng lesson once a week with the tri club and once Iv'e done my marathon (eeeekkk) I'm going to add another swim session each week as that's my weakest point.
Then come December it's time to start fink!
I'll be camping with the family, going for electric hook up though, got to charge my garmin. It's only forerunner 110 but I love it and I'm going for a seperate bike gadget .
ok thanks all. Bike stays. Garmin on wish list. Got a marathon in 5 weeks and after that I'll start some serious bikink. Was set up properly 4 years ago and assuming I've neither grown nor shrunk presume it should be ok. Definitely gives me neck ache though. Very different position to normal bike. Can't bring myself to use the tri bars. Cleats are bad and scary enough
If you only want a tent pitch just turn up, if you want lecky hook up then you need to book in advance. Come and camp with us riffraff not with the snobs in motorhomes..;-)
Razor, I will definitely be under canvas with the riffraff , it's where I'll feel at home! Is there somewhere on the website that tells you about camping? Couldn't see anything.
Proberbly not up yet, but I've got the details somewhere, will stick it up when I find it. This year they allocated us the meadow which was 5 min walk to the lake, so hope we can get the same spot.
I'll be camping with the the family hopefully in the Pirate area, only lecky I could possible need is for the beer fridge. Might have to leave that at home

How do you go about booking camping, and how far in advance do you need to do it?
Bear toddles off to see when campsite bookings open, I may be tenting it, but my fur needs a hair dryer.
There seems to be 1038 entries now, only 62 places left.
Razor, I will definitely be under canvas with the riffraff , it's where I'll feel at home! Is there somewhere on the website that tells you about camping? Couldn't see anything.
50 place left, tick tock
the sooner it fills up the better...................

Meldy might have been wrong for once
WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!
Pixie, No, I very much doubt it will last beyond 11 hours IIRC
I get about 10 hrs out of my 305, I have thought about this and think I will either buy an edge or a cheap catseye computer for the bike leg.
Pixie, you only need a watch that tells the time though. Or a super duper 910XT
I want to enter but it's going to fill up before payday I'm thinking 2014 will have to be my year...
I bought my Garmin 910xt from here for £285 Runners Need price matched this price
