Slight delay on releasing the route, sorry about that. David, rest assured, I wouldn't design a two lap marathon route. Basking Shark, you're right the 3,000 includes the half runners and is only a guesstimate. Little Lizzard, I think there will be plenty of room from the start and we split off the half runners at 3 miles to give you a bit of countryside then bring you back onto the very flat, half route, through the city for the last 10 miles.
Route approved and will be on the web site soon. Entry forms will be about two weeks if you don't want to use on-line entry.
For those who know Leicester the basic route is Victoria Park, London Rd, Charles St, Belgrave Rd, Loughborough Rd, Thurcaston Rd (this is where the half splits off) Redhill way, Beaumont Leys Lane and out into the country Thurcaston, Swithland, Cropston and back to Thurcaston Rd to follow the half through the park, past the space centre, through Abbey Park, a tortuos route to get on a short stretch of towpath then onto Gt Central Way, back in on Aylestone rd, past Walkers stadium and through the historic Newarks area to pick up New Walk and on to the finish near the cenotaph.
Don't know Leicester at all - what's the course like 'undulation' wise? Still have it in my mind to find a replacement for Abo (and to redeem myself after a disastrous FLM) and this seems a pretty likely possibility - mainly cos it's the right side of Beachy!
mitten - how quick is quick? Trying to work out what I'm capable of or what I can realistically train to be capable of.
I guess I'll wait until I get back from holsin a week or so. Intending to do an 18 week programme but don't like the look of the Saturday and Sunday runs.
....think I'll HAVE to do this now if it goes through Cropston, since I sort of lived there for a couple of years in the dim and distant past (parents there during a couple of my years at uni). Wasn't there a HILL though between Leicester and Cropston??
I'll send you a virtual pasty, meat or veggie?? Think it's going to be wet in Cornwall but looking forward to just running for the sake of it and no pressures on time.....
Looking forward to it, will be my first marathon. A few hills when you go out to Thurcaston, Swithland and Cropston but city wise is flat as a pancake. The finish up New Walk seems rather nasty... but then again its shaded. Can't wait.
meat pasty all the way DB9 - we are going to sennen later in the year - cant wait! Good on you Jamie - good luck with your training Dont worry Taff you need the odd undulation to break up the 26.2 ........... !!
Dunno about you lot, but Leicester is not Beachy Head, nor is it Snowdonia. If you are dedicated, put the course route through mapmyrun.com and see what it gives for metres climbed. You'll be moaning about the hills in London next.
Never done a marathon; starting to feel delirious and am thinking its a 'good idea' (despite not even running any halves for a while). Is this as good as any for a first one? It's over 18wks away, isn't it? Want to raise loooooads of money for charity too
I'm thinking of doing this one too. Did Nottingham two years ago and finished but want to get a decent time now. This looks like a good one, BunnyPhobia. It's a flat course with some countryside running and should have lots of atmosphere. You've got plenty of time to train.

Is Leicester worth visiting? If I am running I will want to come up for the weekend, as not exactly local.
I understand that the run is both a half and a full. Does the full repeat the half route? Running the same route twice is too depressing for me!

Will you be having marked start zones like they did at the Silverstone half, based on target minute/miling? Or something similar?
Also, the countryside bit sounds nice, didn't realise you had much of that around Leicester centre. Is that flat also?
So, just to confirm - it's a one lap course and the Travel Inn is the place to stay??

Kaz - it is supposed to be flat.
I'm off to taper for a week in Cornwall before my goal 10K race so save a place for me Bob.
Ummmm, now do I do this as a quick marathon then do Beachy Head two weeks later? Bad idea?

I reckon its gonna make a great marathon!
Enjoy your taper DB9, mind out for those VW's!

If you want hills, check out Jungfrau marathon.
for those of you who want an abo replacement this is your best option on UK turf
Now taper for a week until goal 10K, local, fast race.
Did a run/bike/run today and felt good
