So am I - harumph! Being a 'W' clearly has it's disadvantages. Why, even in my schooldays when they arranged the class in alphabetical order, I was usually sitting at the back of the class. Oh to be Mr Aardvark!
Got my entry form today - that was fast considering I only sent my application off on Monday. Hopefully shouldn'e be too much longer for anyone else still waiting.
Hooray and open a bottle of fizzy. The form has at last arrived at a 'W' surname household. FLM 2008 will be my first as a V50, I managed a PB at 49 so I will no doubt try for another one.
Can I be bothered actually training for a faster time (2:45).
I didn't actually train specifically for my qualifying time or indeed a marathon, I was just running and hit a purple patch, found a marathon entered it and went for it. The target was always sub 3, but not to get the GFA, that was just a bonus.
I got in through the ballot in 2006 but got injured before I even started marathon training so defered, then in 2007 I was injured again. Third time lucky?
The form's filled in, just need to find my cheque book and sort out the registered post thing.
Talking of injuries....................I'm out for at least a week. Nothing serious but if I'm going to give it a go next April there's no point doing anymore damage before then.
Sent my letter off today after getting my GFA time at Nottingham. My first letter was sent in May after I missed the time by a few seconds, and I got a reply back very quickly (which I did ask for so that I would have a chance to train for a September marathon).
Closing date for receipt of GFA entries is looming (19th Oct) and the postal strike is not helping. So to calm my nerves I phoned FLM today and they confirmed that returned form had been received. They were very pleasant and helpful.
Just need to start doing so training now .... anyone else looking for 3.35 time?
Phew.. posted entry last Monday 1st Oct recorded delivery. Cheque finally cashed today. My training starts on bonfire night after a couple of weeks hol in Nepal, 0-80mpw in gradual weekly increments!
The season for climbing Everest is over for this year Wardi (or is this going to be a bit of pre-training altitude conditioning)! The lengths some people will go to to gain a better time in their marathon!
Rang to check FLM office have received my entry. They have, but I'm not sure how good I'm likely to be for my age by April, since after seeing a sports doctor today, I have been forced to start an absolute minimum 6 week lay off, three days before my autumn marathon which I have just spent the last four months training for.
Tripped over a few weeks back. Thought the damage was superficial, but knee kept hurting. Physio said it was 'bone bruising' and I could still do my mara and rest up after. It's got a lot worse though, so I had it checked out by high powered (very expensive) sports doc today and he said cartilage in knee is bruised too, and if I run on it (especially long and hard), cartilage might detach altogether, and I might never run again. I'm feeling very self pitiful at the moment!!!

I'll be V40 for FLM.
The doubts are just post marathon/race doldrums.
