imageHappy Birthday Johnnyimage and well runimage

Well run also to ABAB,Swittle and Thistle.

    Sunday 30 March 20081:45

    16.25 miles – 2:07:59.75 – 7:53 m/m av [Ekiden]

    Jog Watch – 3.

Although I’ve run everyday this week I’ve only racked up 18.66 miles, so instead of rerunning the usual 5k I thought I’d do a longer run just to boost my weekly total.

With no real plan I set off from Tescos in Helsby at a pace I thought would get me my target of 11.5 miles (30 for the week) in about 90 minutes. By the time I got to New Pale Rd I thought I was going too slow so decided to make the run at least 1:45. A lady in a black Polo passed me here and gave me a friendly beep-beep and did a hand gesture like she was tooting the horn on a steam train, not sure what that meant.image

Running down Waterloo Rd, I noticed for the first time the giant radio telescope dish at Jodrell Bank in the distance, I don’t know why I’ve never seen it before.image

Ran down towards Kingsley then cut back and got on Norley Rd and just followed that for a while past a few signs for Delamere but ignored them, then realise that I’d been out 1 hour and it’s at least 4 miles from Delamere back to the start so decided to take the next right turn and head back.

Cheese Hill Lane was the next right and just after I’d climbed to the top of that I came across the Forest View pub and now I knew exactly where I was, and by my reckoning at least 7 miles to go.

Gallowcough Ln took me into Delamere Forest and then it was plain sailing. As I came out of the forest at Manley Common it started to rain, by the time I got to Crabtree Farm it was really throwing it down and I’m sure there was a bit of hail in there as well. It didn’t last and I soon dried out, the last bit through Alvanley was really nice, the sun was back out and it was warm again and rain had brought out the smell of the country, brilliant.image

I’m surprised by the overall pace as it was roughly what I wanted to do from the start but thought I was running much slower than, happy with the extra distance as well, even tho I was knackered afterwards I still could've run for longer.image

    [splits – 1: 2.14 miles, 8:00m/m (mostly uphill) - 2: 2.35 miles, 7:24m/m (mostly downhill) – 3: 3.36 miles, 7:40 m/m – 4: 3.53 miles, 8:01 m/m – 5: 8:05 m/m]

    (2008 running total –556.44 miles)

    Aaaah summertime at last image

    30/03/08 - 1615hrs - 7.54 miles - 58:29:10

Had planned to get out early this morning but opted for a much needed lay in instead.

By the time I finally got myself sorted the initially damp and dreary day had turned out quite nice ... the sun was out and the birds were singing.

So in celebration of the arrival of summer I donned my Borat thong and plimsols and hit the road.

Did a slow half mile warm up, a 7.40 min mile stretch and then a very knackered half a mile cool down to finish. I was a bit dubious of my time and distance as I hadn't used my polar for a few weeks but a double check on mapmyrun confirmed it as ok ... so I'm quite pleased with that.

Hi guys i'm new to the forum & pretty new to running also. Been running since the first week in Jan & on my first run i struggled to cover a mile. But i've plodded on & this morning i did my first 10 mile run which i completed in 1hr 38mins & i have to say it was the best run yet !! It was a beautiful morning with blue sky & a slight breeze, i live in a coastal town so i had the smell of the salt water & freshly cut grass. As i jogged along i was thinking to myself that 6 months ago i'd be lying in my bed suffering with a hangover & here i am now enjoying running 10 milers !!

Taking up running really has been the best decision i've ever made image

Had a day out at MonkeyWorld today with The Dorset Deaf Childrens Society AND THE SUN SHONE ALL DAY !!!!!!!!!!  Great day out - 66 of us socialising and trying to work out if we were watching the monkeys or they were watching us ???

Got home and took the kids straight out again for swimming club ( " Oh Dad - I'm tired, do we have to go ? " " I told you to take it easy on the adventure playground " - " Oh Dad....... etc... etc......)

They didnt know the reason they were going swimming was because it gave me a free hour to go for a run (Mean Daddy...).

Anyway I believe this forum is My Last Run so .... to get to the point.... Left the leisure centre and headed into the glorious early evening sun AND the increasing wind blowing into my face ! Did an on pavement lap of the town residential areas, New Poundbury, down thru town, Fordington, Fordington Fields, Manor Park and Castle Park then back up by the Rugby Club to the leisure centre.

Time 52:50  - mapmyrun 6.48 miles - 6.5 miles put in my diary when i add on the bends.

Lovely running conditions really though - nice cooling breeze and warm sun.

    Happy birthday Johnny.

DH - be a bugger to injure yourself falling off a chair with your 10k coming up after all that training - Ive got a chair you can borrow with straps to stop you falling off - Dont half bang your electric bill up when you plug it in though !!!!!

Steve D - Inspiring stuff, keep up the good work!

    29/03/08 - 5.1miles - 35:33

A repeat of the run I did on Monday, this time with Tim. Up the footpaths of Loxley valley following the river for a few miles before cutting up to the road and taking it back home. Loxley was a veritable mudbath and within a few minutes we were caked from the waist down, at one point we came to a massive puddle with no way round so we donned our snorkles and through we went! So much more fun than pounding the pavements! image

If I manage to go under 7m/m for this run I know it's been a pretty good run, just snuck under this time! image

    30/03/08 - 20miles - 2hrs49

LSR time again. Had a good night out last night which meant that todays run ended up happening a lot later then originally intended... i.e. when I felt human again!  image

Tried to find a route that was as flat as possible as a lot of my LSR's of late have been fairly hilly which just seems a bit suicidal! Running in Sheffield means you can't cut out the hills completely but I think I did pretty well today. As always the LSR is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one so I tried to relax and not think about what I was doing at all, not looking at my time or disctance until I thought I was getting close to the 20 mile mark. As usual when I did finally look at the Garmin I found I'd not gone quite as far as I'd been guestimating which meant I still had to grind out another 4miles when I thought I must have been at 18miles or so. Happy with how it went all in all, certainly the distance didn't seem quite as intimidating as it did a few weeks ago. image

Achieved another personal milestone this week... clocked 52.34 miles which is the first time I've ever gone over 50miles in a week! image

    Good running everyone!

    Great running everyone!

Steve D2 - I wish I could improve that quickly!

    30/03/08 LSR time.

60 mins, 4.84 miles.  Did a bit of a different route this time, as my out and back along the A29 has been getting a bit tedious!  I headed out to the country lanes where I used to do a 30 min route, and used a crossroad as a central point, going out and back long each road from there.  Made the route look interesting when I downloaded it!

A gently undulating route, apart from the sharp downhill at the beginning, which I had to get back up at the end.  Wasn't looking for a particular pace, but ended up keeping it below 12.30m/m, which was very pleasing.  It's been so long since I did that route, that it was a bit of a novelty running along the lanes feeling quite comfortable, when I'd usually be dying!

Good prep for my 10k on Sunday.  I'm only going to manage 1 run this week, as I'm away on business, so a medium pace 45 mins is planned for lunchtime today.

Hi all, belated birthday wishes to iRun and JBimage  I ran today for the first time in over a week - have had a cold and virus thing, still not completely gone, but felt that I needed to get out for a little trot. Just did a 5k loop from home, the hill back home was very hard, 29.21 mins. Looking forward to building the mileage up again this weekimage

hey, maxi bradford, i'm originally from Wakefield and played rugby union for Sandal (a suburb) in my 30s and early 40s. if you'd not had a fight at Thorne, you'd not played there lol

Just got up in time (0550) for the first canter of the summer term. staggered round to running chum's house, pleaded to use "facilities", then off for a funereally slow 5.5 miles around Crosby. A beautiful morning, little cloud, no wind and some superb colour in the sky as the sun rose.

chum stopped at 29 mins with stomach cramps - serves her right for humbling me at the Wilmslow half yesterday image

Some more good running being posted - well done all and welcome SD2 - great performance in 3 months - keep it up.

Not sure if this really qualifies for this forum but my 9 year old profoundly deaf son has entered for the Dorchester 2 mile fun run in mid April ( im doing the 5m again) so he decided today its time to start training !!!!! I got in from work and he told me to - (in sign language) - "Daddy get changed go running now".

We decided to do a D shaped lap of the local residential area where we live - its short but its on a hill so we started off with the down at the back of the D and then ran back up round the loop of the D - got back to the start and asked him - (in sign language) - "home or again ?"  He said "again" so we went round again. Timed the whole run at 10:37 and mapmyrun 'ed it at 1.1 miles. Thats 9.33 minute miling.

Maybe another runner in the making ( get 'em while they're young!!!) - but hes ready for bed now and complaining of sore knees - mind you he did do swimming training from 6 -7 this morning.

So today my diary says 1.1 miles in 10:37 - its still a run in my book but i will run to work tomorrow morning to stretch the legs a bit more.

With it being such a beautiful day today I simply had to get out for a run. I went on a route I last did in Feb. It's a pretty decent route as it's all on a path alongside a quiet road. About 10 mins in it got a little windy and I was a little worried as it was blowing directly into my face making making it tough going. Luckily the wind died down after about a mile and I was left with glorious sunshine in my face. Miles 1-3 were tough, 4-12 were easy and 13-14 was tough as my legs felt really heavy as I got close to home.

To br honest I wanted to do a few more and was going to add another 5.83 miles onto my roue to make it 20 miles but I had to be somewhere this evening and ran out of time.

Yes, another cheer for Steve, excellent progress, keep it up.

Tonights run, 4.52 mile easy run, legs heavy after Saturdays long run, but after 1 mile I was nicely warmed up, still took it easy though, enjoyed the running in daylight, at least now I can see the doggy poo and avoid it.

    Anyway, 4.52 mile, 52.50.

Martin - great to see the little one getting into the spirit of the sport and its great that you are encouraging it. I wish my parents encouraged more exercise when I was younger, would have saved me years of being overweight

B - Hope you get better soon

Jogwatch: 3 (I thought I might see more considering the daylight)

Male Joggers in sexy shorts: 1 (Coorrrrr, he was well hunky, gives me reason to keep getting out there!)

Total miles for March - 81.06 , thats good progress, when I started in November my mileage was 31 for the month. One day I'll get to 100 per month! That would be a great milestone for me.

    Happy running all

There's still just under 2 hours of March left DH. You could quicky get your stuff on and knock out a quick 19 miler! Provided you can get back by midnight you'll have done 100 this month!

Hmm, today's run didn't quite go to plan!  I just wasn't really in the mood.

I was going fine for 18 minutes, then just stopped.  That hasn't happened in training for a long time.  Walked for a bit, then carried on, but I just wasn't really there.  Decided to turn for home, and stretched my legs out, turning it into a bit of a fartlek session.  My garmin was screaming at me the whole way back, 'cos I'd set some pace limits!

Oh well, it was better than doing nothing I suppose!  And now I can't run for the rest of the week 'cos I'm in Germany (no gym, and I'm not going out by myself!).  Better lay off the pretzels....  Hopefully the 4 day layoff will do my knees a bit of good.

    2.72 miles 11.23m/m (in a few sections!)

Total for March - 56.71 miles (only 2 miles short of my best - so it's not all bad!)

    Monday 31st March 5pm    6.15 miles      7.33m/m      46:23

This was a route that I have done on several occasions.  Along Cleveleys/Blackpool prom and home again.  Hadn't run this route though in 3 weeks.  Weather was pretty warm, can definately feel summer on the way as I was feeling hotter than usual.   Set of at a fast pace and then after half a mile or so decided to slow it down a bit to allow myself to warmup properly.  Legs felt sluggish probably down to some tough Squash league matches at the weekend.  First couple of miles along the prom the wind was in my face, not too bad though.  Got to the halfway point and headed up the steep 100m slope to the upper prom and headed back.  That small yet steep climb though REALLY takes it out of my legs.  (I have never really done fell running but my respect goes out to long distance fell runners!)  Slowed my pace down to 8.30ish for 30 secs or so just to let my legs recovered, then picked up pace again.  Turned up the pace (>6.30m/m) in the last half a mile and finished with a pb.  OVER 2 mins faster than last time I did this run 3 weeks ago.  Well pleased! image

Have an interclub timetrial/race on Wednesday of 4 miles and then rest time ready for the Lancaster 10K on Sunday.  REALLY looking forward to that.  First 10K since I have felt my running improve.

Oh dear! I'm rubbish at getting out of bed for 5.30am. Bounced out of the house at 10 to 6 but my chum had gone, so I did our regular route in reverse for a change. My legs were heavy after Sunday and the wind was rising in strength. Got round OK, taking in the sights & sounds of Waterloo and Crosby, such as they were.

    5.5 miles, 41 mins.

    Hello all.

I class 5.30am as still middle of the night swittle image

Lunchtime run for me, mostly grass and trail, hilly with one particular hill that - put it this way - I am always relieved when it is over with but I know it is doing me the world of good! 3 miles @ 27:20.  A slight wind coming back but the sun was shining and that is always a plus.

Alot of workers use that course at lunchtime, usually someone out there but not even one jog watch today.

Ran into work this morning - tarmac all the way via a couple of residential areas and past the Chocolate Factory on Poundbury. Did plan to do a 50/50 on road/cross country route to work but when i woke up and saw the rather wet start to the day and realised my off road shoes were at work I changed plans and did the tarmac route.

3.95 miles in 31:46. 8 min mileing - quick for me but it didnt feel fast - didnt feel easy though. Drizzled all the way, nice and refreshing before a strip wash in the sink !!

Jogwatch - 1 and we exchanged hellos. Jowatch later today - at least half a dozen - all ladies (Race for Life is coming up - theyre practising - good for them)

Just added up my monthly mileage for March - never ever bothered or been this serious about it before - just read DH 's post and thought - thats a good idea  - anyway a total of 81.43 miles. Sorry DH beat you by a third of a mile !!!! Mind you ive added up Jan = 58 miles and Feb = 57 miles so March was a bit exceptional. I blame you lot for the encouragement (thanks) Bet you beat me in Jan and Feb DH (and will in April)

Well done March Runners - now bring on April and some sunshine (and a cooling breeze ) !!!!
