there shouldn't be any rush to enter..... I was going to sign up in a month or two. Dosh is tight at the moment! Nothing wrong with putting the challenge in
All a question of degrees. The bike isn't flat, but it's nothing to worry about inless you train in Cambridge or on a turbo. The 'ripple' is 3 hills in quick succession, but each takes only a couple of minutes of effort (5 max), and you get half way up 2 and 3 with the momentum from the previous one. The run is around the reservoir and so is pretty flat for the main part, the wind that tends to blow is actually the bit that caused me most agro when I've done it. The 'hills' on the run are literally only a couple of metres height and tend to knock your rhythm off more than the actual effort of the climb.
TSA: No MTB's allowed I'm afraid (not sure I'd want to do that distance on one anyway)
As before swim is flat apart from the bit up to the beach (I say beach, but really mean gravel mixed with goose poo) Bike is quite fast apart from the ripple (which is nothing major if you do some hill training), I thought the hill coming back to transition was worse. Run is very flat, but the wind can be a problem, and the small cross country section 1km into each lap, can play havoc with your ankles if you are not used to running off road.
The best organised triathlon I've ever done (not done an IM yet so can't compare) loadsa pirates, and a great atmosphere. Really sad that i can't do it this year. Anyone doing it will love it I'm sure
They've doubled the entry now as last time I did it (2 years ago) it was 500. So how does that work, as the bike is one thing, but what about that swing gate just after the dam - will be pretty congested there with double the flow I would have thought.
LOL - The off road bit is the bit on the grass after you run round the corner of the lake bit. For me it was the branch that took my head off that was more of a challenge than the off road element! Just by the water station at the far side of the lake you got through a swing gate. Normally you're concentrating on where to throw your paper cup at the time and so distracted.
always some twonk who'll try to bludgeon their way through the gap as 2 runners approach each other and have to suddenly stop
it's not really off road - just about 400m of grass is all. they changed the route a little bit last year so you avoid the undergrowth area now and go around it on the track
I'm not sure I can do this now. I have two conferences over the two weeks either side of that weekend. If the second one doesn't happen I should be fine but I'm waiting for confirmation.

But if I challenge him that means I have to part with my cash now and sign up. I was kind of hoping to do the registering bit next month...
I have a couple of questions about the VIT
I am allowed to do it on MTB and when will it fill up?
there are 480 entries so far, with 1000 places
last year it filled up in July, but that doesn't mean anything really
keep an eye on the website here
about the MTB - don't know, sorry but again you should find something in the event info
have emailed the organisers asking the question about MTB.
and I normally only count 2, so one must be pretty flat - it's not a hilly course, just bumpy
I'm still slow on it though
500 out of the 1000 places are now taken.
Still haven't signed up - must sort my admin out!

swing gate? off road bit?
I must have done a different Vit - I don't remember either of those things!
I'm maybe not as fat as you, so fitted through the gate fine ; - )
or maybe there were less people by the time I got there, which is of course MUCH more likely
branches don't take my head off, there are advantages to being short
