Hi All

Sarah when is Dublin? Am tempted myself, will look at Windemere too. Went out for about 6 on saturday felt good to be out by quite heavy legged. Will do out tonight although am really feeling like I want another weeks rest! (just being lazy now!)

Hope you all had a good weekend?

• Options
afternoon. Still very heavy legged. Cold has really knocked me for 6. One thing-since london i cant stop putting on weight, 5lbs in a week! Must start regular sunday 10 miler as soon as cold goes. Windamere looks good as it is a month after london so could do both and compare times.
Emily-hows the itb?

Afternoon,

well am back at my classes now and feeling the familiar aches after using muscles that have been left alone for the few weeks leading up to FLM.......had thought i might go for a run tonight but not so sure now ( I say that now but i know i will go.....it`s just nice to think I might not!)

Do you think we could do Windermere after London? It did cross my mind but i thought maybe two marathons in two months might be a bit much for me being a mere mortal although i know extreme runners and those that do 5 in 5 days in 5 different countries seem to survive. I must say I do feel better than I thought I would and the thought of sundays 15 miles doesn`t really bother me so maybe I could..????

Loved the long weekend....can`t wait for the next!

Darren - with you there with this cold thing; beginning to wonder if this is hayfever, but have never suffered before, just doesn't want to shift.

Will run home tonight now its stopped raining - sprint training. I know its tempting fate, but just printed out the route for Goteborgsvarvet 21km on 16th, and my split times for 8.2mm, which should give me a 1:47 finish...will dummy run this Saturday, and see how realistic it is.

Windemere sounds fun - one of my favourite areas, having hiked all around there in days gone by.  Are you sure its not too hilly?

Grrr, I posted earlier. Or I thought I did. Will have to type out again in a bit image I thought that too Mystery about Windermere. Just entered Dublin. Will take the rest of the month easy then start getting stuck in again at the beginning of June when back off hols.

Sarah - looked on the RW site, and it says "Undulating" for Windemere; I train on hills, and dare I say it actually prefer going uphill than downhill, as it hurts my knees if it is too steep.

Just ran 1.5 miles at 7.5mm, so slowly getting the speed back into my legs.

I read somewhere in the MN mag, that it takes 3 weeks for you muscles to "forget" the training that was made, so in theory I am still in "marathon legs" mode - just have to taper up now image

Good luck in Dublin, and dont forget to put a few long distance runs in between now and then (June isn't it?)

Hills are good. makes a change gives you something to think about. Thinking of camping if I go. It will take me back to the days of trangia stoves, wet socks and ridiculously heavy back packs.

Runs,

Its possible think of it this way you do a 20 mile training run then 3 weeks later the marathon.

Still feel pants, I blame the chilli I had last week!!!

Mystery, it's October, so have time to take it easy for a few weeks, then start to build back up again slowly and hopefully manage more training this time. Having said that I only did 5 miles last night and the side of my foot was starting to feel numb. Something weird is definitely going on in there!

Darren, hills are not goo lol. I don't like themgenerally, though they do make things a better challenge! Still the scenery would distract me from them!

Good for you Adrian, and Darren you are right, 20 miles then a marathone...well at least 15 is 11 miles less although it ios quite hilly so will no doubt feel like 26 to me!

So sorry these colds are lingering on.....not much can be done other than rest and rehydration really.

Sarah, sorry to hear your foot is still aggravating away.....do you have any further physio/specialist appts?

Hoping to get out for a 6 mile run tonight but time is not looking good.Trouble is i`m busy now til sunday.....have to go to Norfolk tomorrow as my son is playing cricket there ( it`s about 2 hour drive) so won`t be back til about 8.30pm and friday I`m off to Lords to watch some cricket, saturday my neices birthday party in Northampton and the race is sunday....thank goodness for the marathon..at least i`ll have some fitness left from that!

Adrian - You need to modify your account settings so I can email you using "Message member" at the bottom of your post - in your Profile is a toggle Email me (your address will not be displayed)

Otherwisei If you contact my private email address I will send you a UK address: mysteryguise@hotmail.co.uk

Runsout - busy, busy schedule there; say hello to Northants for me; last training here in Sweden this weekend, ready for the following week - there are a record 53,000 runners this year!

Speedy - I have also been deducted the entry fee, so it could just be the running top or maybe an outside chance to get in. Like you I don't really want to have to run for another charity, as I really would like just to run this for myself, rather than asking people for money again.

Had to run in the rain, but had a Mexican buffet for lunch so that compensates for the lousy weather - not sure what the carb content is...

Ok some of these comments refer back to posts from the last few days seeing as the one I did didn't appear!

Runs, good luck for this weekend. I agree with Lalsger's description of the GNR. It is underlating, especially the first half I think and very busy, but the atmosphere is great. Windermere sounds great. not sure how far underlating stretches. having said that I am doing the great north swim (1600m) in Windermere in September so maybe i can have a run to check out the area a bit too. It's around the lake isn't it? Runs, my foot has been fine, even during the marathon, but there must be an underlying problem there. It's just finding out what it is. Will have to make some more appointments!

Darren, I would like to aim for sub 1.48 for my half (if i ever do any speed work!) and regular long runs for Dublin. Am hoping my foot settles down again. Yep I have put on weight too. Can't stop eating!

Mystery, i don't normally taper for a half either. I just do easy runs that week. Good luck. Sounds like one to do for the future! It could be hayfever as I have been like for several months now. I'm worse in the morning and at night.

Emily, take more rest if you feel you need it. We are meant to take it easy for about a month. You don't want to get ill or injured.  Dublin is October 26th, their bank hol Monday.

Adrian, I will send you a text. Hope you have a good time tonight at the club. if they are more road running based, i am sure they will be a friendly lot (not that track runners aren't!).

oh sarah I could be tempted with Dublin.... will have a look at it.

Crapy week for me so far - trying to run but just not getting far - knee hurting ( a bit) and just feeling really lathergic. But am going to run at lunch time today - just have no speed at all.  Keep telling myself that a couple of  week off won't hurt but worked so hard to get marathon fit don't want to lose it.

Yeah sorry guys. I have moved desks at work and the whole world can see my computer and what i am up to. image means I actually have to work he he.

Emily, it sounds good. Just hope it is as flat as it says it is image Not sure how my legs will feel after wandering around site seeing, but is a good excuse to go and have always wanted to! I am feeling the same. i want to run but feeling so tired and am busy anyway. We won't lose our fitness that quickly and am trying to remind myself that rest is just as important as training. be careful with your knee too.

cold eased enough to start running again feel like a kid at christmas. Anyone recommend halfs for september?

Just finished my hill (or bridge) and speed training - felt really quite rough today so good to get it out of the way. Last Saturday Run before the event next week - find myself looking at the weather forecast again.

Sarah - have the same problem at work, my computer faces everyone.

Darren - good to hear you are up and running again; knbow what you mean the adrenelin steel seems tobe pumping around my system and I can't stop eating!

Hi,

did post yesterday but for some reason it hasn`t appeared......not that I had much to say as no running, just watching cricket in Norfolk and no great news today as been at Lords watching more cricket....!

Darren, sorry can`t help with sept halfs...there seem to plenty on oct but that`s no real help.

Looking forward to sunday now, I don`t usally run the day before a race but as I haven`t had a chance to get out since tuesday will break that rule tomorrow and stretch my legs for a few miles.I`m not aiming to break any records so have no plan other than to conquer the rather steep hill I have yet to run all the way up ( I`ve done the race twice now and failed both times! ).

Hope all niggles and colds are clearing up now, Emily I really wouldn`t worry about losing fitness at this stage, I was told we are supposed to rest a day for each mile run so you`ve plenty of time before you need to worry about getting out there and really training again!

Hi everyone,

Sounds like you're all getting back into the swing of things nicely after the marathon!  I did my first post marathon run on bank holiday monday....did the Watford 10k with my boyfriend and some friends, didn't race it though, just took it steady.  Didn't feel too bad actually, a little bit tired but felt great afterwards.  Did aerobics & body conditioning classes Tuesday & Wednesday & going to go out for a steady long-ish run a bit later today.

I have entered myself for the St Albans half marathon in June, MK half in July and Run to the Beat in September.  I've also entered the VLM ballot for 2010.

I'm going to go & join my local running club next Wednesday, I think I will benefit from some group & structured speed training.

• Options

Jade B, you definitely will. I find it a great help and it also motivates me to go training. Well done for entered those races. That reminds me I need to enter the St Albans too if they have places. Think I am going to do Run to the Beat again too. I also like that MK half (first time I got close to 1.50) but have a friends wedding in Belfast that day.

Only done one run this week and am busy this weekend but will get into it next week and then off on hols for 2 weeks and being the crazy women that I am I will attempt some jogs and some bodyweight work. Had to spend hours trying to work out where to go as Mexico cancelled but they found us a nice hotel in Tunisia. As long as it is warm and we can do a bit of diving and sun worshipping we wil be fine image

Sounds like heaven Sarah!  I've been to Tunisia quite a few times, where are you going?

runs i work near the suffolk norfolk border. Have played the odd game across the border but the furthest north i have play is at southwold or a village called wortham near diss. However i think retirement is near. running throughout winter has affected my arm strength
• Options

Darren, get doing some press ups now image He he. I need to work on upper body strength, especially to help my pants swimming! Sounds like a nice place to work. I'd love to move to the countryside at some point.

Jade B, we are going to the Iberostar Averroes in Yasmine Hammamet I think it is. Really looking forward to it after this swine flu malarky. What's it like Jade? I know some people hate places like that, but we enjoyed Egypt and coped ok with the haggling/trying to get you into shops etc. We are just polite to people.

JadeBJadeB ✭✭✭
I've only stayed in Sousse, not Hammamet but I loved it, I would say that the people are fairly similar to in Egypt if you didn't mind that then you'll be OK.  I'm quite envious, I could really do with a nice hot, relaxing holiday myself.  Me & the other half have actually got a week booked off at the end of May but he's told me that he's got too much on at work & so doesn't want to take the time off now image.
• Options

JadeB - sounds like an excuse to go somewhere hot for a week with one of your friends....image

Runs...good luck for tomorrow!!! Take it easy and enjoy the day.

Darren - let me know if you find somewhere to run in September - I quite fancy the Berlin marathon, but not sure I want to do a full one so soon.

Maybe I am showing off or just chuffed to bits, as I've just finished my "dummy" 13 mile run in 1:47 - just knocked 7 mins off my PB; my legs felt heavy the last few miles, no doubt as a result of FLM, and at least half of the run was into a 9m/s headwind. At least it didn't rain (the forecast said 97% chance of precipitation...)

Better go shower now... image
