    Hi,

Blisworth and MK sound good to me...am already entered in MK and don`t suppose Blisworth will be oversubscribed.

Thanks, my son ..well all of us..was really pleased..infact my hubby was so pleased he went out and bought him a very expensive bat as part birthday ( he`ll be 15 on june 1st) and part well done present...now all we hear from his room is the sound of him "knocking the bat in"...joy!

I`m still struggling big time with my stomach. Thankfully it is fine when running but if I eat or drink I get griping pain etc.Beginning to really affect me now as I have no energy...did 5 miles today and it really took it out of me although it was rather warm......am sleeping lots and have some tablets from the local herbalist which are supposed to put back the natural flora in my gut which the antibiotic obviously stripped ...I guess on the upside I am losing a little weight but the lack of energy is a pain as that`s the one thing I really need with my family! Plan is to keep running but no further than 10k til my energy levels return and my stomach inproves...can`t afford not to run both for fitness and sanity levels!

Hope everyone has a great bankholiday...can`t believe we are on our second one already...it`ll be school summer holidays before i`ve blinked! The forum seems quiet so I assume people are either resting /away or just taling time out but it will be good to catch up when everyone is ready.

Runsout - girls will be along soon, so hope your son gets a good innings out of the bat, before it gest stuffed in a cupboard somewhere...image

Sounds like you are struglling there and a full-time mum (still not recognised as "employment", which is a disgrace!). When I did my 13 mile practice run week after FLM, I had really bad stomach pains, but I put this down to I took a mix of ornage juice, water and salt with me, and I have been reliably informed that these energy drinks give many people a bad stomach weeks afterwards.

I guess like me you are torn on whether to keep running because of all the effort and time required to prepare for marathon, but balancing this with trying to fit everything in. I don't also want to tun long distances over the summer, so will stick to a couple of halves I think - will enter the MK one in next few days.

Get yourself better! Our bank holiday was friday so work tomorrow.

Had a great day yesterday, did the Baker Hughes 10k in Aberdeen in 51:08, pretty happy with that.First time i've done a 10k for a couple of years and forgot how hard they were! Then in the afternoon watched Rangers win their first title for 4 years and got absolutly mortal drunk celebrating!

Hopefully with a couple of more 10k runs over the summer i'll get under 50mins.

    Thanks Mystery...am doing my best.

Well done Lalsger...great time..my 10k pb is 53.26 and would love to get around the 50.....am going to enter a few in the autumn as they seem to be more available then...don`t know why but there aren`t that many in my area over the summer and when there are some I am already booked into halves.

Had a good weekend....ran sunday morning but only managed 7 miles out of the 10 I intended as it was just too darned hot! Still feeling very drained of the truth be known but am determined to do St Albans although my plans for a Pb may need to be shelved for another year, just getting round is going to be enough I think..hopefully by MK I will be on form again. Was going to go out today and may still do later if the rain lets up but it is miserable at the moment so will concentrate on the ironing pile that seems to multiply overnight!

More cricket tomorrow..weather permitting..we`re in Worlington......hope the sat nav knows it because I don`t!

lalsger - well done the Gers...just need Barca to beat Manu now. Great race time too and I made the same mistake on a 10k thinking that will be easy, but having flown frpm Sweden the dayy before I was more tired than I thought and the last 3km was tough.

Runsout...ironing; yuk - the worst chore of the lot; my friend loves it, but then Ithink there has always been something wrong with him.It takes me 20 mins to do one sleeve! image

Hi all. I'm back. Hope you are all well and running image

Mystery, sorry i thought MK was the 19th as it normally is. Typically I am busy the weekend of the 26th as well image Would have been good timing too. I am sure that with your half time you will do sub 50 easily. My half PB is 1.48.10 and earlier that summer I did 48.59 or something like that (I can't believe I have forgotten!). I think the course might have been short though but before that my Pb was 49.48 so am sure you can do it. I would have loved to do Stockholm but I am in Windermere that weekend doing the great north swim image

Justin, I have recently started having sports massage and I think it does help. i definitely think it helped me recover quickly from the marathon.

Runsout, you have a transition area. Your bikes are raked up and you run from your swim, get your shoes, helmet etc on then off on your bike and when you come back in you rack it up again before going on your run. Am sure you would be fine doing it. I have done a small aquathon before as well and that was fun. How are you feeling now? how is your stomach? it's sounds really nasty. I'm with you on the lack of energy. I have real problems with my lack of energy and when i am like that I struggle to do things. Hope you are feeling better now. I would probably be stuupid enough to do that 34 mile race next year. i guess it depends how my fitness it really. Maybe Dublin will put me off! I will only be getting round St Albans too so if you fancy running together let me know. i know you normally like to run alone though.

I had a lovely holiday but only did one tiny run on the beach (16 mins). The sand was just too soft and my knees didnt like it. I could have gone running out on the roads, but knew I would get too much attention on my own. I did do a bit of swimming though and some body work instead. Last night I went with my friends and did about 5.5 whch was tough especially in the heat. St Albans will be fun! have only done 5 runs since the marathon, but need to get back into things now.

Lalsger, well done on your 10km time. That's great. You just need to start doing some more speedwork/intervals and you will soon be under 50.

Quixall, how is your calf? Hope you are on the mend. I have the same problem at work. My team have been moved too and I got sat across from them. Everyone can see my screen now and as I am next to the walkway there are loads of people walking past. not a greatposition for a proofreader but there was no where else that is close to my team apparently!

Darren, have you started your summer training programme yet?

What  plans did everyone use for FLM? I am wondering what to use for Dublin. I kept all the Rw ones so could use them.

Sarah - my plans have been slightly scuppered, as came back to UK and went to see a helath specialist, and I have "Rotaters Cuff" in both shoulders, so they have advised me to stop running for about 5 weeks and rest; I am not sleeping too good as can't lie on either side. Oh well so much for exercise being good for you....

So at least I can drink and take my mind off the fact I can't lift or rotate both arms - not easy to shower or get dressed and I had to get someone at the airport to help me put my belt back through its loops!

Adrian - received my copy of Evening Standard results; thank you very much and let me know if you want any form of payment. I read in there that it was the hottest London Marathon on record, so considering this we all did amazing times.

I have my DVD of the race, but haven't watched it yet; maybe at the weekend.

Hope everypne is out enjoying the sunshine,as you're sure not logging in and reading the forum image

Mystery, that sounds very painful. How did you do it? hope they get better soon.

Adrian, yes I got mine too thanks. Was cool seeing my name in there and seeing how some of the celebs got on. Also let me know about money for you. Was it really the hottest on record? Wow! i am very pleased then if that is the case. I must run a lot better in the heat than I thought and will no longer have that excuse!

Must get that DVD. So many things to do, I keep forgetting everything!

Sarah and Mystery, glad you both got your copies, no need for any cash, you can shout me a Lucosade if we meet at a race sometime image

Sorry to here about your shoulders Mystery, sounds terrible.

I am having fun with running club, fully joined now with club shirt. It is "our" local run this Sunday, the Eltham park 5. Some of the people there are nuts though. Running marathons every fortnight. One couple ran one in Foulkstone and then one on the Isle of White the following weekend image

  • Options
Thanks Adrian. Good luck for this weekend. They are just the hardcore mad people image Most of us club runners aren't like that honest image bet you will see an improvement in your speed at the weekend after your club training.

    Hi all,

Done my first ever Friday 5 mile last night 40.18 not bad would you believe that was the shortest race I have ever done and had no idea about pacing for short run at least it was a p.b!!! Thinking of joining my local running club but feel put off as I dont call myself a proper runner.

  • Options

Darren, I think you should take the plunge, I don't think of myself as a "proper" runner but they are very welcoming and it is so nice to go out on a Wednesday or Sunday with other people for a change. Even the hardcore mad ones are really friendly image

I ran our 5 miler today in Eltham Park, finished in 36:04 so pretty happy with that. Want to see if I can keep that pace up for a 10k, would get me close to 45 mins I think image So I think that might be that improvement in speed you were talking about Sarah!!

Hi all, hope you are all doing well!

As for me been finding it hard to keep going the last couple of weeks just crazy busy at work and with no race entered lacking enthsism - and boy is the weight coming back on!

So will bite the bullet and enter and half in august!

  • Options

Good on you Emily. I know exactly what you mean though. I even have races entered and just feel so tired all the time image We will get there. Know what you mean about the weight too.

Adrian and Darren well done. Yes that will be the speed, Adrian. That's brilliant. I really need to start doing speed work with people on a Tuesday again rather than running round the park!

Darren, I think of myself as a club fun runner! I run for fun but also belong to a club.  I really go for the social side and the fact that it gets me out there. I think it would really benefit you.

Didn;t do any running at the weekend. Have no idea how i will get round St Albans. Still need to build my training up gradually again anyway and did do some swimming and cycling again last week.

    Hi,

long time since i`ve posted i know but not much to report really, stomach problem has been rumbling on but finally this week improved..hurragh! I`ve not run as much as I should have, only been out twice a week and 9 miles is the furthest and even then i`ve had to walk a bit but as I say things are improving and I`m about to go out now and if I can get around the 6 miles planned with no hiccup i`ll be pleased.

Those doing St Albans this weekend..I will be there, probably run/walking it but I will get there by hook or by crook..I have to go I promised the kids they could do the fun run and grandad is coming along to do it with them so I have commitments that i can`t get out of. Unfortunately i can`t hand a round at the end either as my son has a county game against Essex so I have to rush over to that as soon as I am washed !

Have had a quick read of the recent posts...seems i am not the only one to have struggled with energy etc post marathon......it is coming back and it was worth it  but I don`t think I`d try doing another within 6 months...too much for the old body to take ! Good on you Darren...I think it would be good to join a club too but just don`t have time at the moment but I have found a running partner so that helps..we are a club of two!

Right must get out as if I don`t go now i won`t have time to fit everything in today....will try to get on later but if i don`t manage have a good weekend, will look out for people at St Albans....should be a warm one so tip to the wise...if you finish after about 2.10 it`s dogy as to whether you`ll get an ice lolly at the end so there`s a thought to spur you on!

Runsout, glad to hear things are improving. I am reconsidering St Albans after struggling round 3.25 and 4.75 this week. I felt rubbish and was only running really slow. I might see how I feel at the weekend, but I am wondering if I might just be better off getting more sleep. Longest i have done since the marathon was just under 6 I think. I doubt I would break 2.10 right now, in fact might be slower. So much for starting my marathon training for Dublin in better shape. But that's what i get for not having done much training since then!

Hi, what a warm one! I did St Albans withy friend and as you know I had no time ambitions which was just as well as my friend really struggled ........ a mixture of heat, hayfever and diabetes and we ran/ walked from mile 2 to 7 when I persuaded him to stop at the paramedics and I did the 2nd half on foot whilst he had a ride in an ambulance ! Thankfully he is ok although they did an Ecg which "needs further investigation" ! Thank goodness he didn't keep going and he's at a BBQ now so I know he is ok. I managed to complete in 2 hrs 9 ish so had a good 2nd half and the kids loved the fun run so as that was really my reason for going I consider it to have been worthwhile . Hope everyone else had a good weekend , having a small operation on tuesday so no running this week but hope to be back out there next week getting ready for Milton Keynes, here's hoping it's less eventful than today !

Hope your friend is ok Runsout. I think you did fab. I have done that time before and have run the whole thing. I think I would have been doing a time around that today too if I had gone or slower to be honest. I didn't in the end as I was behind with some stuff I needed to do and also thought after my rubbish week I was better resting. I have also had a weird pain around from my hip. It seems ok again now but thought that doing the half would probably make it worse. I was meant to have physio Weds, but had to postpone till this weds because of the tube strike.
  • Options

    Hi,

thanks Sarah...like I said i`m not really worried about the time, I was more concerned about my friend and felt guilty leaving him with the ambulance but then he knew the paramedic and told me to carry on so I was just relieved to see him at the end looking alot better rather than worrying about my time.

Hope you get your hip sorted out..shame you had to cancel your physio ....public transport in London can be such a nightmare without strikes adding to the confusion. I don`t think you missed out not doing the race, it was a good day and an event I love but so hot...I can`t see how anyone managed a really good time without being superhuman!

No running today, catching up on household jobs from the weekend and stacks of ironing to do as I know post op I won`t want to do very much, just hoping I recover as quickly as I`d like...back out next week is the plan!

keep running everyone, enjoy your new club membership those who have joined, catch up with you later in the week.

Which reminds me of what else I was meant to say in my post Runsout. Hope your op goes ok and you're back and running soon. x

    Hi All,

Runsout, good luck with the opp hope you are up and running soon.
Sarah, hope your hip gets better soon, the spirit will soon be back with you.

I have a 10k on Sunday, but it is scenic rather than fast, single file for parts so not worrying about times.
A friend of mine has roped me into the grim challenge. Anyone else experienced this rather pleasant bog jog?

  • Options
I don't know anyone who has done the Grim Adrian but I have read that it is a lot of fun. Not sure I coudl handle it though image Good luck for your 10km. yep am hoping the spirit is back soon as am starting training for Dublin in a few weeks. Hips seems better after a weekend of rest so hopefully will stay lie that. Am planning in a half ion Aug and Sep with friends so that will also give me something else to train for. Would love a pB image

When is the Grim? Souds like my sort of race..had great fun doing the Cardiac arrest in nov....lots of mud and water..speed doesn`t come into it..just a chance to get back to childhood running through mud and ponds and climbing over hay bales etc.......

Thanks for the good wishes...i`m sure it will be ok, have spent the whole day rushing around cleaning..ironing..even washed the sofa cushion covers! Will probably sleep til wednesday post op!

Spoke to my friend and he has been given the all clear on his heart..they put it down to heat and hayfever and the strain of a hilly run!

The Grim is on 5th and 6th of December in Aldershot. Its run over a military vehicle test track imagehttp://www.grimchallenge.co.uk/grim8/

oh grim sounds fun! I did the command challenge which was great - will have a look at it!
  • Options
oh just had a look looks great - well up for that!

Looks great Adrian, will definately sign up for that!

my op went well, sore today but that`s to be expected especially as on my return home i couldn`t stop myself hoovering and cleaning up a little as my 16 year old clearly isn`t capable of containing my three year olds havoc making skills..it was like a nursery school of children had taken over the home not one three year old!

Weather seems cooler, better for running for those that can, will try and get out sunday as hubby going to Lords with his father so won`t have the pressures of fathers day onm our house leaving me free to run!...probabl;y not far but that won`t matter after a week of not running.

    Take care all
