Morning all - kept off scales as Fat Fighters weigh in tomorrow, so don't want to get hopes up, only to be dashed..........

Spent yesterday painting woodwork - had to have a load of new doors fitted - and they all had to be painted.image  Now waiting for it to dry!

Hope races go well today, hopefully not as hot as before, quite cool here (Hampshire).

Did my my 8m this morning, think it 's the first time that I've gone this distance (building up slowly) so quite pleased to do it without stopping.  Average pace, I think, around 10'30/mile.  Feeling it now............so off to finish light domestics, then 150mile round trip to bring off-spring home from their father - could do without drive, have a feeling I'll arrive and be stuck in one position due to stiff musles............ouchimage

WD CJBA on the longer distance!

I am still only at 4 mile did again this morning don't know if i prefer Sat or Sun runs?

Was very hot this morning and that was at 8am!!

  • Options

Keeny - Don't think of it as only 4 miles.  Loads of us don't even do that and loads more don't do anything.   That's great mileage.  Just let things build up slowly.

CJBA - Well done on your 8. Wow, non stop for the first time - that must feel good.

I did Princes Risborough 10K this morning. Not too hot. Cool and breezy to start with though it did get a bit calm and muggy later.  Loads of water stations - fantastic!  Quite a hilly route. Felt like almost continuous uphill though there were a couple of down hill bits (they seemed much, much shorter image)

Everyone went off at a rather fast pace so I had to convince myself that this was not the best plan for me when I still had 9K+ to go. Still did the first mile in 10:14 and that was having tried to slow it down.  Finished in 1:07:14 which is a season's best for me.  Quite chufffed at that considering the hills and all image

I've just allowed myself 2 Jaffa cakes after my usual WW chese spread and lettuce sandwich - really felt I needed a little extra. Feeling knackered!

Well done on runs CJBA and Keeny and good racing RLTW.

Good eating all; Have we heard from Sydney lately? She may be back here by now?

Hi all.  Can I just say Glasto = bad for your body!  I'm off alcohol in doses of more than one drink for quite some time.

Been out for my first run tonight in nearly 2 weeks, 4.5miles at a very slow pace, and it was hard work.  Still I'm back into it now and with only 17 weeks til NY probably just as well!!

Well done all, it was reading what you'd all been up to that forced me out tonight!  need to get my training back on track pretty quickly, so probably a tough week ahead.

Well done to anyone who has done any exercise over this hot weekend image

Has everyone had a good weekend?

    Hi Vixximage

Good thanks, but tiring; and been fighting a headache all weekend.  Been trying to keep the fluids up, and not just of the Pimms variety!

     How about you?

  • Options

Vixx has !  How did you get on Vixx?

Keeny - I've only done 11.2 miles since Monday and some of that is only because I entered a 10K (and I didn't visit the gym at all)  so you're not doing badly there -

KMac - Welcome back from the Glasto.

  • Options

    Thanks RLTW!

Didn't you have a race this weekend Vixx???

  • Options

KMAC- do you have swine 'flu yet? I hear there were several confirmed cases there and it spread like wildfire.

We finally have it at my school, just as the policy changes to non-closure and no anti-virals!

Foxy - funny you should ask, feeling a bit under the weather today, but deep down think that it is my excuse for not wanting to go out for a plod...  When's the weather going to get cooler?!?!
  • Options

It's wet and windy here!  Has cooled down a bit now. Aiming to get out early tomorrow, bed now.

Do you have a fever or cough? They are the main symptoms apparently- I had a crash course on t'internet today so I could spot the con-artist pupils once the news hit!

    Hey all

Hope everyone is doing ok?  Have been rather busy of late and not been on much

Had a nice 10 miler  around Rutland water (well part of it) lovely weather with a nice breeze on Saturday and a total of 28 miles ran last week.

Have also changed my weigh in to Friday after a week of excercising and Fridays weight was 12st 4.5lb. Weight coming of is v.slow but not to bothered about weight more so shape and definatley noticing a difference in that. Had to put another notch on the belt soon be back down to 32 inch waist.

What are peep's views on speed work and tempo runs etc for half and marathons? After how long a base of long runs (in terms of mileage) do you think you start looking at these at part of your weekly programme?

    Hi all

Been for an easy 2.5 mile tionight in prep for Sunday!

    Evening all.

Foxy - no, neither fever or cough so think I'm in the clear!  BIt of sore throat and a few sniffles.  Anyway was well enough to plod my way round 5.4 miles just now, so pretty happy with that.  Feet feeling it a bit though, think I might be investing in some new footwearthis weekend.  Going to go get fitted for some trainers me thinks - am hoping they can sort me something that will make me feel like I am wearing slippers!!image

    Hi all.

Welcome back Rodeo CLownz.  I don't know much about tempo runs but I'm sure some of the more hardened runners will be able to comment  on that.  On a personal level though, I found doing fartlek type runs over my regular 2 mile training run helped a lot.  Distance was the same but it seemed to help in running bits of it for as fast as I could comfortaby go for as long as possible and then tootle along recovering til i could do another faster stretch.  So, not sure if a minimum length of long run is required.

Vixx - How did your weekend race go???

    Rodeo

When I'm not being a lazy Foxy I do one tempo or intervals session out of my 3 or 4 runs a week; have done since I started training for my first HM after I had been running about 6 months.

Mostly I use a Garmin training plan but currently using a smartcoach one which alternates tempo one week intervals the next.

I've just ordered a book about training according to HR so will be interested to see what that recommends.

It has definately helped me speed up btw.

  • Options

    Thanks all

Im on the Smartcoach as well FL and it sounds the same as yours pretty much. Tempo one week then interval the next. Last week on Weds run I had 6 mile Tempo inc warm 4 miles @ 9:54 then cool boy that took some keeping up in the 5th mile. Tomorrow I have 7 mile speedwork inc warm 3 x 1600 @ 9.16 w/800 jogs. So this is helping on the speedfront?

On my slow midweek runs (ie tonight 6 miles @ 11.30) I do a bit of what I presume fartlek where I pick out a lampost and run at nearly top speed for say 50 meters odd then jog till got my breath back.

Would be interested to hear what your thoughts on your book are, having been reading a little about HR on here. Only race I have run was a 10k and that took me 1hr 4 mins (was up ill up till day before though not best prep!). But on training I have done 6.1 miles in 55 mins so I am hoping to get near to 2 hrs on a half and would love to get near 4.5 on a marathon before old age gets into me bones image

    Evening folks.

Didn't get to weigh in yesterday, due to change of school schedule (sports day on/sports day off/on/off) so no idea what their scales say.  Will have to wait until next week!

I can only do 3 runs a week (injury) so do 1 x LSR (currently 8m) 1 x steady (differing distances, 4 - 6m, but increasing as my LSR increases and at a speed 30 - 60 secs/mile faster than LSR) and 1 x tempo sessions (today's was 3mins hard + 2 min recovery x 4).  As I've missed so much, I've gone back to where I started about 2 months ago, but it seems a reasonable mix.  It also means that I can play around a bit with lengths of runs, depending on family commitments.

Doubtless everyone as wet as we are - minute I left the house, it bucketed down and stayed that way!  Had to cross road at one point, 6 cars went past before one stopped, presumably they all thought that I was so wet, it wouldn't hurt to stand there a little longer, getting even more wet................image

Hey everyone, so sorry i've been away for so long, haven't even lurked! Things are crazy at work with the merger - luckily all is good with my house now, i have 2 new housmates who are great and we're getting along really well!

I'm heading back to the UK for 3 weeks tonight so will be absent a while longer but will join in again when i'm back!

Oh and i managed to get down to 9st 7lbs (i started at 10st 5lbs) but then went to the mountains and ate and drank for 3 days solid so now seem to be hovering around 9 st 10-11lbs which isn't too bad!

    Hope everyone is well! xx

Aha CJBA- the old sports day conundrum- cubs' school and work school both postponed from today until tomorrow, think it makes life easier for me as I have just apologised for a wrok meeting that was on my day off anyway.

I had rice crispies for breakfast today and can I complain I am ALREADY starving, back to Cheerios tomorrow.

Haven't run since an 8 miler on Sunday but cycled to and from a meeting last night which went on so long, plans to run when I got home went out the window as it was virtually dark.

Should be able to fit in a run and sports day tomorrow, working Friday and doing a practice duathlon with friends early Saturday, and may be a mid-lenght run on Sunday too.

Should get easier once we all break up and I want to restart my Pilates DVD again and start using our gym machine at home. Plan to return in September having lost remaining weight and looking toned! & weeks of hols shoudl do it as we're not going away anywhere.

Hi Sydney- safe journey home, glad things are on the up.

Rodeo- I'll keep you posted, but incidentally intervals are meant to be great for fat burning as well as helping speed.  Without a doubt they help. In a year I knocked nearly 20 mins off my HM time.

Foxy - I often have Rice cripsies for breakfast but I have a huge bowl full (they're all air!) and I chop up banana on top too.  That usually keeps me going (with loads of cups of tea in between) til 2 or 3pm.

I did a crafty nip onto the scales today and I'm hoping that what I saw will be good for Friday. Fingers crossed.

Sydney - Good to hear from you and really good that your house mate issues are sorted.  With work merger it sounds like a good time to be going away.  Hope your journey goes well.  It's rather wet and wild over here at present so I hope you've packed your mac.  btw - we have internet over here image.   Here's hoping you will be able to keep in touch during your stay, but if you can't then I hope you have a fantastic visit.  We will look forward to hearing all about it.

Vixx - You seem to be keeping your head down a bit - Hope everything is well with you.
