Have done the full, would like to get a club record for the half. My moderate pb so far is 1.32 on a flat course. Is the half at Matlock the last half of the marathon and if so does anyone know where I can see a profile in terms of height, climbs etc
check out the website for the event. and yes the half is the last half of the marathon..all down hill. and thats not a moderate pb, thats an awesome pb
so what colour will the mugs be this year? mort, what colour do you need? are you out there?
It is a most excellent marathon for those who like off-road quiet events as myself and clairster do. 3 big downhills which are fun! And a useful goody bag at the end and a black/red/pink/purple mug if we are lucky
Sounds good Morticia thank you. I ran the Beachy Head Marathon in October and it made me realise I really prefere off road events, so looked at this as it was quite local too.
Beachy is on my to-list. It's a very long list though! The first half of this one is uphill but if you plod like me then it is barely noticeable but if you race it is a different matter or so i'm told! Overall though it starts high and ends low which has got to be a good thing
Sounds great Morticia. I would throughly recommend Beachy, I think its one of the best races I've ran and will certainly be running it again this year. It's just the Seven Sisters you need to worry about 8 miles from the end!
Go for it Fenland! The weather was awful when I ran it in Oct, really warm, but very wet and foggy - spoilt the views really, the last couple of miles I couldn't see where I was going! It was a great challenge though, a really good atmosphere as there were also walkers and joggers, it felt like everyone was in it together to complete the challenge...no pressure on time etc.
I've never done a full before, was thinking of making this my first after the good write up it's got. For anyone who has run it before, is this a good one to try my first at?????
Understand it fills up pretty fast too, I had written my application for the half, but still deciding about the full?
I'm here by tradition Clairster. Every year I say I am finally going to run the marathon but have yet to do it. I did sweep bike here a couple of years ago though.
I went for an off road run this morning with one of the ladies from our club as our x country league race has been canx for tomorrow.
We went off road and ran 15 miles through the snow and ice, it was fab. I left my running partner and ran the final mile home and was thinking about how fab it was, I love running!
Entries are coming in extremely fast now. The list has been officially open for only 10 days and already I'm having to post closing dates. At present these will be Friday January 22 for the half marathon and Friday February 12th for the full marathon. These dates will be posted on our web site as soon as Rob gets round to doing it.
These dates may change as the rate of entries changes, of course.
I can't get my printer to work. Can I please send you a cheque and any details you need as I have done this the last 5 years and you know that am a well-behaved person? (well apart from last year when I absconded to Alton Towers!
theresthatrunner - I'd say this is a great one to do as your first marathon yes, but it depends on you/what you want from a race really. I did the White Peak in 2008 as my first full. Brilliant. I then did it in 2009 too - fantastic again. But it's a fairly low-key 'runners' race I think - loads of camaraderie out on the course, but not a great deal of crowd support. So if you're wanting the 'big city' feel then this ISN'T for you. But if you want a small, very friendly event then yes - it's great.
I also think this is a real good PB course too. Yes the first half is uphill, but apart from a small stretch past the 4x4 place (about mile 5-6?) you really don't notice. It's a very very gentle ascent. You then have the 3 downhills at the end which come at exactly the right time - about 22.5 miles for the first one. So when you get to 16 and it hurts like hell instead of thinking 'I've got 10 miles to go yet', you can think 'just 6 miles til the downhills start' - for me this really helps psychologically. If you've then got anything left in your legs you can fly at the end - my last 6 miles last year were the quickest. So I'd say yes go for it - it's a cracker of a race.
Reading that back it makes me wonder why on earth I've entered Stratford mara instead of this now!
LS21 - do both and yes I agree, if you run it right, it is a fab PB course (my PB course in fact ). I love those final descents and they really do keep you going
