Hi all back from Corby got a good soaking as the last 15 miles it tipped it down ( was on themotorcycle)

Was a tough little course first three quarters of a mile  uphill then a mile and a quarter down hill, a steep downhill too!  Then 1 flat mile and the last 2 uphill mainly especially the last mile,Ihad to stop for a breather.

My time was 41.11 av  8.11 which I amhappy with, not as fast as last week at Bedford but then this was harder plus I ran at  the club last night  and had that tough 10 miler Sunday..No excuses though need to work on the hills, lost a fair bit of time that last mile,

Bridget that is a great run, you did the right thing missing tonight, you would have done it but that was some long run, are you happy with your preparation for the marathon? Seems tome you are very strong now image

Club 5K for me tomorrow, would be nice to go 8mm but I can only do my best!.

Pinks don't let 'em grind you down image

Keep on running one and all!

Morning.  Intervals for me last night.  Haven't done them with this group before so it was different for them.  10x1min off 1min recovery and I managed to average 7:30 pace for the fast bits.  In fact I was very pleased with my splits as they were much more consistent.   Was good fun image

Was going to run this morning but decided just to walk Benji instead for a mile.   Want to do a hard bike session tonight so thought I would save my legs imageimage

Swam 1.2 km last night but struggling with breast stroke. I am knackered after 20mtrs. Managed this in 40 mins..........Technique of swimming needs a lot of work.

Cycled five miles fast to work and got abit wet.......keep screaming it helps when its work related.

Good running Rod.........cant be super fast every week. Well done still good time.

It will come Mark.  I know it is easy to say but you have to relax and not try too hard.  The best swimmers always look as if they are doing nothing!!

Very true there is a lady who glides through the water at our pool on a Wednesday night. She was in trouble last night as she wanted to try her flippers out. No not permitted even though they were only six of us in there.

Afternoon, I've been a bit distracted these past few days but just about caught up with everyones news.

Well done Rod and Bridget.  Hash - are you joining the pirates then?

I've slipped back into my pre marathon routeen which is a gym class on a Wednesday and a cardio workout at the gym on a Saturday.  I just seem to be so busy but I've just done my first internet grocery shop to give me more time for running at the weekend.  Not quite in need of the rolling pin just yet.

I'm looking forward to the Bupa London 10km on Monday.  Right - back to writing some emails

  • Options

Big hugs Pinks, don't let 'em grind you down.  Remind me to do likewise.......

    Great stuff Rod and Bridget

Eeek, no chance.  It's not just that I can't swim, I'm absolutely phobic - had a nasty incident as a kid and I revert to being 8 years old at the merest whiff of cholrine.

Aaaaanyway, there's enough good stuff in my life without it .  Like the lovely Harley who brought me into work this morning and didn't make me feel like I was sitting on razor blades, so looks like I'm HTFUing pretty quickly.   I don't think I've ever arrived here feeling so bouncy and full of energy!   Wish they'd unlock the door and let me out of this cupboard they locked me in though image

I love my bikes too Hash.  There is a real sense of freedom - even though the legs find it hard!  I am looking forward to my session in the sun in a couple of hours image

Rod - I have to confess to the preparation for this marathon having been weeks of
    35
    16
    13
    11
    34
    29
    24.
This week is looking to be 44 though image

The last 3 weeks I have bumped up the long runs with
    11
    15
    20.79.

Last marathon was early April with a half the following week which was first week of 35.

So not ideal prep but I know I have the fitness and as it is off road I am not looking at anything fast although quicker than last time would be nice.

  • Options

Actually Bridget that is ok  reckon you definetely have thefitness and the experience of a few marathons, no ammount of training sessions will give you that,.

Your marathon in early April if I remember correctly went very well for you.

I suppose off road it will be slower too.

I am just wondering how tonight will go after last nights race, its only a 5k I will try and give it my all but I don't expect a fast time!

Hi everyone from dead legs here!

Did a track session on Tuesday and even tho it was designed to keep an 8 min 10k race pace, I went too fast each time with the guys and altho kept up and did really well, today I am STILL feeling it image Ended up doing 7 min miling...

    Session was

    Warm up of 1200m slow

    2 x 200m, 2 x 400m, 2 x 800m - 3 min rest then 2 x 800m, 2 x 400m, 2 x 200m

Cool down of 800m slow and stretches..

I loved the session but the last 200m was pure adrenaline sprint to beat the guys who normally push me and ended up at 5.45m/miling! Ridiculous and as I said paying dearly!

Went out yesterday and managed a 4 miler but OMG, I was dead! Planning a nice 10 miler tomorrow, VERY SLOW and after Bridgets post about stopping for coffee and granola, I've decided to split my 10 miler up too, so will run thye 5 to the coffee shop, have a break and then come back - sounds perfick and just what I need (apart from the sun!)

Anyone else doing the MK NSPCC Half Marathon in July? Got my race pack today - I loved this last year, all by the canal and Willen Lake and the medal is GORGEOUS! I did it last year with a heavily banaged thigh and still managed 1 hr 58 mins as its almost flat, apart from a few underpasses, so I recommend it!

Just got an email bout Corby - ~WELL RUN Rod - great time!

    'lo

Blimey Kim how fast?  Amazing, well done!

Bridget I agree with what Rod said, you've got so many marathons and long distances under your belt that you've got a base level of fitness and stamina  that most of us just don't.

Speaking of marathons, my ill or injured deferred entry for arrived today.  Tell me the Super Six lightening doesn't strike in the same place twice?  Wibble .....  Had a long heart to heart with the physio about the pros and cons of a) running it at all and b) putting up with the clicking knee and not going to see the consultant, who let's face it has a vested interest in telling me I should have the operation.  Bearing in mind I only have BUPA cover for as long as I've got this job, it's like playing poker with massive stakes. Need a crystal ball.

Having said that, running miles 17 to 24 with Pix was so bitter-sweet, there would be some sort of closure about doing it one third and final time, and for real.  I think that's going to have to come first

  • Options

Hash you will do it next time, hopefully I will have  a place too, I'm in the ballot so I'm in with a chance!

Just back from the club awards evening, a very well attended evening plus a record attendance for our first summer league race, we had a lot of the Womens Running Network with us which was nice, some good running going on there.

I actually ran a really good one after last night I thought I would be tired but I actually felt good.

    total 3.13 miles 24.15 av 7.45

    spits 1.01miles @7.39

              1.01miles @ 7.26

               0.99 miles @ 8.00

                0.11miles @7.49

                50.06 feet @36.03!

so they were ok splits forgot to turn the Garmin off so was 20seconds less will await the club time but a PB whatever so chuffed last mile had a tough uphill bit hence was slower and I had to have a small walk, need to toughen up still image

But 3 races since Sunday is ok I guess .

But Kim those times are really good you are flying image

I am going to do Parkrun Saturday,I am well into the shorter distances now!

  • Options

Wow you guys are flying. The running has taken a back seat with me as I get on my bike. Well done to Rod and Kim whizzo.........good luck to Bridget on the Marathon........and all racing this weekend.

Have a good weekend.......I am off to try out some bikes after work...........image Might be divorced come Monday.

The Womens Runing Network rock!! image

Kim image  How fast? image  Awesome!!!

    Rod good run too!

Hash.  Go by how you feel.  You have nothing to lose by taking up your deferred place at this stage (apart from £28)  Gives you time to think about it and get stronger and back to where you were before all this supersix mallarky changed your life!

I had an awesome bike ride yesterday.   Decided to do my 20m time trial route - which unfortunately isn't flat but is the best I can do here without a drive.  And to my utter amazement I was 9 minutes quicker than I have done it before!!!!!  Even coming back into a really tough headwind (it was so strong that even pedalling downhill I only managed to get up to 29.7mph at a point I normally do 35pmh freewheeling!)    I was amazed and have no idea where that came from!
    Splits were (in mph)

    12.6
    16.9
    19.0
    16.1
    15.5
    16.8
    16.7
    19.5
    13.1
    21.2  then turn around
    12.0
    12.8
    12.9
    12.9
    14.5
    13.3
    15.5
    13.0
    13.3
    13.4
So you can see the difference the headwind made!

Rio that isgoodcycling Icouldno way go that fast, have neverv really needed to get a shift on image

7 miles seems to take about 35 minutes an an undulating route,.

I think The Womens Running Network is a good thing, it seems to get people running who otherwise might not, they all got a medal ast night with a pink ribbon which I thought was a nice touch as it made all that ran feel part of something.

I feel great today after my efforts, all that marathon training I now feel was not wasted,it is STILL only  a month since VLM  image

Park Run for me tomorrow then rest till Weedon on Tuesday for a hilly 10K!

As an organiser of two WRN groups  it is one of the things I love most.  Getting women to achieve what they do not believe is possible.   A lot do not have the courage to join a mixed group for various reasons and we have loads of fun.  I take more pleasure from seeing them achieve than I do about my own stuff

I am thinking of signing up to the Parkruns too.  Have a hilly 10.2k race planned for 1st July so could do with getting some short faster sessions in as much as I hate them.

  • Options

Good cycling Rio did 4 miles hilly in 19mins this morning into work and it was windy here. Need to get some serious miles done this weekend. Not sure when due to other stuff.

There are loads of women running in our village, it must be fashionable at the moment. Better than anti depressants anyway.........its addictive so many of them say. My OH, sister in law and two eldest daughters run three times a week together very often.

Want to start a Park Run near us but finding a route is tricky as an out and back route on the trail while feasible is a very public route.

  • Options
The Cardiff one is on a very public route too Mark.  Not too many people on it at 9am though but you just have to be a bit careful.  Think pedestrians on the whole move out of the way when they see a mass of runners heading towards them and for those at the back well its easy to dodge an odd walker or two
  • Options

Rio I have had to be strict with these short ones but slowly I am improving it will get to a point when I will get no faster, pretty soon I think image

Possibly I could get down to nearer 23 minutes, that would do me. Some days one seems to be faster than otheres last night I went really well after a hard one at Corby the night before, how does that work?

The Park Runs are really good as you can play around with pace and so on without worrying too much a bout where you will finish or traffic etc,

Its great Rioyou enjoy helping others, I always try and advise people about my experiences running especially where things have gone wrong, I had no one to tell me when I started and had tolearn the hard way image

  • Options

Me too on the learn on my own front Rod.  I am still learning!  All the time.   I would love to coach properly one day.

  • Options

You would make a great coach Rio......image......

Have a safe and good weekend   everyone.  image

    I am working tonight,Sunday and Monday 6pm - 6 am...image

    Hash you said......

Need a crystal ball.

I can reccomend a great  knee, leg and foot specialist in Chelmsford who only works with private medical care. he has sorted me,my wife and eldest son out over the past few years if it may help with a second opinion...He also works with the Essex Cricket team to mention a few. his wife is the chief physio at the London Marathon for the elite athletes.....

Zaba - thanks for that info - I'm interested in the Bedford Half Marathon but havent signed up as yet. Just the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in July this year.

Done a very hot and sticky 10 miles today. Took the Garmin but only for the distance - didnt really check time etc as I stopped twice and also had a coffee stop ( a la Bridget style) inbetween. Enjoyed the whole non pressure of it all and the fact I had nothing to rush for, no-one to catch up with or chat to - just me and my ipod and the paths image My legs are really, really tight tho and Im thinking I might suffer tomo which sucks as Im working! Got my foam ITB roller tho so might give that a go after work tomo, but that hurts ALOT, doesnt it Pinks! image

Still tossing up the decision to put my name down for Paris Marathon when it comes up - is it as hard as London to get into? I have done the ballot thing for London again but thought this was a good back up plan.

Suze - are you doing the Bluewater 10k on June 14th?

  • Options
Kimfree.... Bluewater is Sunday 13th June                8.30 am start.....image   ..

Hi alI see the bank  holiday is here along with the rain image

I did the Parkrun this morning and had a  good run finished in 23.37 av  7.37 battered my ParkRun pb by 55 seconds and my overall PB by around 30 seconds.image

    Splits

    1KM @ 7.44

    1KM @ 7.30

    1km @ 7.42

    1km @ 7.36

    1 km @ 7.31

The consistency was much better today on a flat course with very good running conditions.

I guess from here things willlevel out, I can't really see me going much better than this but practise does make perfect they say!

    ]How is everyone today?

  • Options

    Wahoo go Rodimage  Absolutely brilliant

Must be the day for it.  Another parkrun PB over here, 25.39 and second in my age categoryimage  Maybe all the other old birds got held up on the A14!

I'm off to make the most of the free water.  Got three raised beds ready for planting and lots of little guys in the greenhouse yelling for their freedom.  Mud glorious mud!  So long as it's not on my feet....

  • Options

Great great run Hash it is right that doing a few gets you to speed, all this after having a late finish at work, had to put szome stuff upoutside a theartre in Milton Keynes and take it down at the end,so was late when I got to bed nearly didn't go but I want to support it.

    Have fun in the mud!

2nd in your age too theres life in that old bird yet image
