Me too lfc, wonder if we can watch it on BBC iplayer?
I'e just been looking at the official photos. It said there were 11 of me but there are actually only 5. The others are of the the usual view of the Tyne Bridge with everyone on it and a few shots of the finish line taken at the time I crossed it. Being 5ft 3 and bit, I'm too short to be on any of them (Shielsy's got no chance on being on her version of them!! )
A word of warning too - Don't be tempted to pay for the DVD. It works out at over £30 and all you get are about 3 views of you crossing the line. Not only that but its been filmed like a home video - the quality is rubbish. (Lesson well and truly learnt at the Edinburgh marathon!!)
MandieR - I got the Edinburgh Marathon video last year (2009) and mine was good quality and had me on really clearly (and I'm only 5foot4). Maybe you got a dodgy copy - is it too late to ask if they could send you another copy?
For once my official pics from this years GNR arent too bad so might even order one or two.
just been looking at some of the photos and theres a couple of great ones of shiesley, the ones where she's next to the guy in orange makes her look like a little kid runnign with her dad
and theres the usual stringy shot with arms held high but sadly he no longer does the camp expression
Hello all, well done to you all for doing the GNR, sounds like most of you had a great time!
Just wondered if anyone can tell me what the guaranteed entry standards are ie what time you have to have done in a previous half marathon to guarantee entry into next year's GNR? I've just done 88min but hoping to do 85min at the Great Eastern in Peterborough in October, I am a ladee by the way if that helps!
Thanks in advance to all helpers! ; )

Hello Jam on Toast. As far as I'm aware, having a good half marathon time will not guarantee you automatic entry to the GNR, they don't operate a 'good for age' system here. Everyone needs to enter via the ballots unless you have a charity place.
Hi Jam on Toast - ballot opens in the New Year and if you go to the Great Run website you can sign up for the reminder service. Either that or you can stick around on here and someone will give the heads up when the action starts!!
Aha thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly, good to know, do you know when the ballot opens for next year? sorry am a bit overkeen ; )
I think you can register your pre-interest on the Great Run site, so you'll be reminded when the time comes to enter the ballot or something (sorry, I'm not entirely sure, as I always pay to have a guaranteed entry for the following 3 years, but in order to do that, you have to have secured your first place initially (if you see what I mean).
Thought it was time to stick my two peneth in after regularly reading the 2010 thread for the last month or so.
I only really started running this year at age 44 done a couple of 5k runs in the past to try to keep fit during the rugby closed season but nothing serious until now. Getting a bit old for rugby and feel im hooked on running.
Completed my first GNR on Sunday and managed my goal of getting round without walking posted a time of 2:41:37 (I'm built for rugby, comfort not speed). having said that it wasnt easy and encountered all sorts of emotions, including the never again feeling at around 11 miles.
i have to say the hospitality of the north east was amazing, being a Londoner living in essex, people dont tend to speak to strangers.
well as i said im hooked and cant wait for next year.
Shielsy - I assume from the above that as I ran this year I will automatically be given the opportunity to take up membership?
Also, anyone suggest how the hell to book a hotel in South Shields. Got family who want to come up next year and as I have a little girl (18months @ moment) I want to be be local to the finish on race day. (In case of rain, not too early a start etc). Bookings cant be made that far in advance at some, others are fully booked.
Really want to get sorted. One place had rooms yesterday min 5days (which was going to be ok by making it a short break) but today they are 7days minimum.
I know its prime opportunity to make money but it suddenly becomes very expensive if you're paying £90 (entrance and 3yr guaranteed) £200+ accom, plus meals, plus travel.
Jam on Toast - for the first time this year the great run people advertised fast club places for the GNR and GMR after the ballots had closed in Athletics Weekly on a first come first served basis. Can't find the issue so you would be best contacting the great run people to ask what the standards are and if they are running the same entry scheme next year. Although I got the required time for a Zone A number on sunday I will renew my membership to ensure my place for the next 3 years.

Sorry for giving you duff information, Jam On Toast, but I wasn't aware of this (but then I'm not a fast runner, so this would not have been on my radar, and it wasn't widely known, to my knowledge)
Davecs - sorry to hear you're having problems getting sorted out with accomodation - I sympathise and am only thankful that being local I don't have such a headache. But yes, you should be invited to join the 3 year bond scheme in the coming months (assuming they're keeping the scheme).
Raring to Go - Thanks and yes I am going to do a "Norman Tebbit" and get on my bike doesnt hold the same pleasure but should mean my fitness levels keep up
Shadow Fax - Thanks although I hope my recovery is measured in weeks rather than months
Stringy - Good news your back didnt hamper you too much perhaps looking at your times we should run together next time I could do with the company as I am not quite into the I Pod malarkey yet
Powerade Zero is aptly named in my opinion and was it just me or did anyone else get claustrophobic in the pens when they shut them off to more runners White F was shut early!!
Wasn t surprised by the walkers as had been pre warned but what was annoying was people cutting across you getting in front to a space that aint there anyway and then slowing down. Ah well minor gripes to a great day
For what it's worth, on the new thread v continue old debate, I agree with the positive points made by Yeti for starting fresh.
I imagine that many newbies would be more reluctant to post in an established thread, even though we are all so welcoming and friendly (just like the crowds on the day) Startting a fresh thread always seems to bring a fresh crop of new faces, which is a good thing.
It also underlines the end of one event and the start of the build up to a new year.
I think these advantages more than make up for the temporary inconvenience of keeping up with two threads.
Mandie, could you e-mail me the photos please? I don't have a facebook account
New to the site - not sure about the politics of cross thread posting but hey no point writing 2 differing accounts lol:
Wow - what a day. First GNR and only second time Ive run that far but loved every minute of it. Having done the Manchester 10k I realised that huge crowds and PBs dont really go and, after registering for Solomon Trail Half Marathon in two weeks, decided to just savour the occassion. Lots of Hi-Fiving the kids and also found myself applauding the thousands of unbelievably supportive people lining the streets - its only after watching the tv coverage today did i realise how rubbish the weather actually was cos not even the rain spoiled my day (although I now have a cold).
However, by mile 8 the masses had thinned and I realised I wasnt too far away from a pleasing time and had plenty left in the tank so managed to sprint home in 1:37 - only 2 mins off my pb. Would love to do around that in 2 weeks but knowing the area, if the weather doesnt improve its gonna be tough.
Well done to everyone involved yesterday - Newcastle, the organisers, the crowds and especially the runners! See you next year
I just picked up a bottle of Powerade Zero in the garage, it really does have nothing in it. I thought it was like Lucozade Lite, but that has carbs in it. What was the point of putting a drink with no energy content at all on the course? Especially if they didn't supply standard Powerade as an option. As you may guess, this is still bugging me. Maybe I could have gone harder in those 5 miles I slowed down, who knows, but I would have liked to have been given a fair go at it. Anyway, rant over.
My legs are at least feeling a bit more human now, I'm even beginning to think about doing some exercise this week. Itchy feet and all that. A woman at work gave me an entry form for the Maltby 7 mile in November, that would give me something to aim at. The problem is I want to put some effort in to improve my time, but doing triathlon training as well means 5-6 running sessions a week is not possible. Is it possible to reduce my times only running 3 times a week, albeit swimming a cycling on other days? Any advice would be appreciated.
Anyway, I've got a presentation to give for an interview tomorrow, so I'd better get cracking and get it finished.
Does anyone really know for sure that they only gave out Powerade Zero at the water stations? or are we just listening to Chinese whispers here?
I only picked up one bottle all day and that was from a water station on the way to the start. They were handing out 99.9% of the proper full fat stuff. The other 0.1% was the Zero stuff and it had totally different packaging to distinguish it from the others. The bottles I saw along the route, in my opinion, were the same packaging as the full fat ones.
I'd like to think the organisors and the people at Powerade had more common sense than to only hand out the Zero stuff for a half marathon, afterall its not going to be a good advert for either company is it?
Mandie, the stations I passed were only handing out the Zero stuff. One was only handing out one flavour as well. Maybe they had run out of the normal stuff when I go there, or had the zero on one side of the road and normal on the other, I don't know. Either way I had no choice but to drink the zero stuff.
I took two bottles of Powerade during the race - first was full fat/sugar normal stuff (altho I think there were both types on offer) and the second (@10 miles?) only had the zero on offer

LFC, is the Mirror worth getting today?
I saw that there was a souvenir edition but if it's just a list of results I'll not bother getting it.
Stiff quads for me still Shielsy, had a serious pain in my left knee yesterday that has completely disappeared overnight though.
5 x V Thompsons.....
