Now only three weeks before race day on 20 August. Four races, four challenges:- Quarry Challenge 10K. Dolgoch Challenge 5 mile. Tynllwelynhen Challenge 3 mile junior race. The the big one The Rotary Challenge 14 mile race. For more information on one of the UK's toughest challenges go to www.racethetrain.co.uk
Now over 1400 entries to date entered across all four races with over 1000 of you entered in the Rotary Challenge 14 mile race, and still two weeks to go before race day.
Anyone wanting spectator train tickets for the main race could be out of luck. The 1st train was sold out three weeks ago! The second trian only has around 10 tickets unsold. I would suggest that any one who may wants a trian ticket should check at race registration on Friday or Saturday.
Nice one Frodo. Does that one need navigation skills? I'm looking for some ultras next year that don't, for goons like me that don't want the hassle of maps....What time did you do it in? Did you set out with a plan, ie. to run so far then walk/run?? I have no plan for Grimsthorpe! Just see what happens! I'd like to run the first 35....
Two weeks today and over 1400 of you will be in Tywyn for the 28th Rotary Club of Tywyn Race the Train on Saturday 20(h August. Train Tickets may be in short supply but entries for all races are still open, with entries taken on race day subject to availability. For information go to www3acethetrain.co.uk
Now over 1,4034 entries todate for this years race. Over 1034 entering the main Rotary Challenge Race 14 miles. online entires are still open, and entries will be taken on race day. For information go to www.racethetrain.co.uk
George - my other half was entered into the morning Quarry Challenge, while I'm back to do the Rotary Challenge for a second year. However, he is now injured and unable to run - could I take his place in the morning event?
I'm coming down tomorrow morning to meet up with Fairwater Runners. (The mad ones in the marquee on the Sat night!)
Have mega blisters, as I did my first Ultra on Friday/Saturday.....the Grimsthorpe 70 miler. Then did the half marathon the next day....... But all will be ok on Saturday.....
Well, that was fun! (apart from that last mile on the road, when my legs didn't want to play any more).
Well done, George - a cracking event. I was glad to beat the train by a minute. Now I know what to expect, I'll be back to try again. I'm not sure if the other half will be up for another weekend camping in the rain though.
Had to wear road shoes, as couldn't get my feet into my trail shoes with the extra tape round my blisters.....grrr.......Found it a tad slippy.......hehe....
Felt fine at the start, but I now reckon you need a bit longer than 5 days to recover from your first Ultra 70 plus half marathon the next day.......Just couldn't get my legs to work properly after 10 miles......
Loved the social. They always play Robbie's "Angels" at the end, & it always gets to me. Arms swaying & everyone singing. Felt sad this year though when they played it, as made me think of Hucker & his illness. (Hucker who always did Tough Guy in just a thong! Now 20 months into a mystery illness that's floored him) I promised him after last years RTT that he'd be well this year, & dancing with me at the social. It wasn't to be.....
Well done George (and everyone behind the event), Another great race. 8 years now and only one has been sunny, surely next year you can book the weather right???
HTA, If only I could control the weather! Its the only day in the year that the weatherman can predict the right weather on the day- RAIN. By the way I have only organised 6 races so you can blame me for the other two wet ones!! On line entries are now open for 2012 @ 2011 prices. So enter now incase we put the price up!

Not long now. Barry Baton's not coming with me though, as someone else has booked him...
Got my first ultra next Friday/Saturday, (70 miles) then a half marathon on the Sunday. Then heading to RTT on Thurs night & staying 3 or 4 days.
So if I can't even walk at RTT, you'll know why.....
Barry Fan (Ria) x
Good luck, Ria
I'm just recovering from last weekend's Lakeland50 - if your first ultra is anything like mine, then you are in for the most amazing experience
