Hi Folks,
I know I am having less involvement in coasters 2011 but I am starting the North England Zone C thread so we can list the county high points across the North of England from West to East. Then we will link onto the midlands Zone and Scotland eith end. Do need a good mapperouterer that will identify the peaks and routes between them (the easiest)
Comments
You can see our zone here. Do not worry if too long we can split it in two sectors
Here are our Counties to cover (roughly):
These are the pre 1974 counties (which we opted to do). WE Have:
Cumberland
Northumberland
Durham
Westmorland
Yorkshire
Lancashire
Cheshire
Derbyshire
Nottinghamshire? (maybe negotiable with Midlands folk)
Lincolnshire? (maybe Negotiable with Midlands folk)
We just need to find highest points in each county and work out routes between them all
Anyone know the highest points for each County?
Cheshire = Shining Tor
HIGH POINTS TO COVER AND LINK
Cumberland -Scalfell Pike
Northumberland -
Durham- Burnhop Seat
Westmorland -Helvellyn
Yorkshire - Mickle Fell
Lancashire - Coniston Old Man
Cheshire -Shining Tor
Derbyshire Kinder Scout
Nottinghamshire? (maybe negotiable with Midlands folk) - Newtonwood Lane
Lincolnshire? (maybe )-Normanby Top
I think Woody, it would be a restriction of numbers. We could , if that is the case, contact them for permission as there will only be a few doing it. It could be certain parts of it too. Best e mail them sometime.
We actually need a mapperouter and couple of co-ords here (maybe one for East other for West) . We have to contact those on Blackpool -Gretna and South Shielders
If we can make the links between highpoints and dicuss with zone before and after us we are laughing. Wales will be before us, finishing in the North in Cheshire- so that will be our starting point I guess
Here is very rough outline of what we may do.
Just popping onto your thread to share the info I have from doing the draft sequencing;
wouldn't want you all to waste time duplicating effort - But I see you already have Lol.
Anyway your list of counties looks a bit short for what we had agreed - so here's the full list
The first number is the number of the 'peak' on the map (which is also the height ranking in the list of counties peaks), The second number is the height in metres.
The list is in order of the draft sequence, if you let me know if the sequence changes I'll alter the map to suit.
Hope this helps you all
25 Staffordshire 520 Cheeks Hill
18 Derbyshire 636 Kinder Scout
21 Cheshire 582 Black Hill
50 Lincolnshire, Parts of Lindsey 168 Normanby Top, The Wolds
42 Yorkshire, East Riding 246 Bishop Wilton Wold
14 Yorkshire, West Riding 736 Whernside
9 Lancashire 803 Coniston Old Man
2 Cumberland 978 Scafell Pike
3 Westmorland 950 Helvellyn
10 Yorkshire, North Riding 788 Mickle Fell
13 Durham 746 Burnhope Seat
8 Northumberland 815 Cheviot !The Cheviot
Share & enjoy
Yep, It'll take as long as it takes Best to include them all I'd say (or at least plan to ), then the achievement is a complete set.
The unappealing sounding Bleaklow Head 633 m is a little to the north & the next highest to Kinder Scout , in case there are access problems there.
it can be roads or cross country I guess DTxS I am sure you will be looked after in joining us.
well done Woody on a link that worked-lol
Hi Dave
You can run it on any surface you like there are no do's and don'ts it's up to each individual runner to decide what and where as long as they meet up with the previous runner and pass the baton on to the next runner. If you fancy running a bit then please start mapping your route on or off road and post a link on here.
the mapping above is only a very rough idea of what mileage we have to cover, Its clear that some will have to be off road and will make perfect sense especially in the lakes. If you look closely you would never run it the way google has mapped it and would also be a shame not run along well known historic paths.
PS
have decided on an IM yet
just a quick thought for you Woody ...
the starting point for coming in to this bit may not be to go for the Cheviot first, as you may find that its easier to do the Cheviot as part of the previous route in Scotland as depending upon what is decided the route through Scotland may well pass close (on the initial fag packet drawing it was better doing it that way) , before finishing up in the South West corner of Scotland for crossing over in to England.
I have.. None !
Easiest way from Helvellyn to Scafell must be a variation of the Bob Graham ?
Skiddaw and Derwent Water were stunning yesterday (photos on my Facebook)
Hi Woody & Bruce
LEJOG or JOGLE was never really clearly resolved but surely LEJOG has to be the most logical -
I'll take that as a maybe then!
Have you a link readily available for the bob Graham route?
Well if you add me as a friend I'll take a look at your photos on Facebook.
Bob Graham Round
and added you
Isn't the Welsh thread up yet?
There is a main thread for LEJOG -JOGLE debate you numpties
(as an ordinary coaster I do not have to be diplomatic at all)
