I love that video Pebble,Ive watched many times for inspiration.
Plodder. The full distance is scary as hell, but its there to be done so I might as well have a crack at it.If I can still walk and everthing after that I might look at one of the tris in August around Keswick or something.
That descent looks awesome. I have driven it, we have camped at Brotherswater a few times, which is right on the Kirkstone Pass, from memory.
I know what you mean about the full distance, I am seriously tempted to sign up for Outlaw, but my biking probably isn't up to it. I'm still bobbling round on my hybrid, don't even have a road bike!! Although I have asked for one for Christmas , maybe 2013 will be when I go full distance........
Know what you mean Roof, my quads are aching like a ********** after yesterday's sprint tri , and I'm defo in mid life crisis mode. Yesterday was my birthday - I should have been in the pub, not battling wind and driving rain in Ulverston Tri
I am very very slow ......does Helvellyn have a cut off......mmmm..... am I mad enough to sign up???
Spongecake, I found this thread after learning that my brother was doing the race this year, inspired me more than a little to take up the challenge, that and finally figuring out how to breathe while doing front crawl!
I'm starting from a similar position to what you did but with a bit more time in hand, I've only got a mountain bike, no wetsuit etc....
Hope I can follow your footsteps and finish! I have no illusions that I'll be going fast
Crux,Glad you found the thread, did your brother do ok.I need to practice my swimming cause not breathing is no good. You should keep an eye on some of the tri suit sites, they normally have some bargains at the end of the season.
Roof good job your ankle has plenty of time to heal
Guys and girls wait until about oct time and start looking for bargins for wetsuits. If your on the same side of the hills as the lake district and up north there is a shop called royles, never been there myself but all the tri folks I know from about those parts rave about it. Sure one of them will stick up a link or something if we hang around. There are similar places all over the uk.
Beware once you start something like this you don't know where it will end.
lol, I just know it's going to lead to a lot of pretty expensive kit for one thing!
My brother did good, but then he's done a few IM races over the past few years so he's in decent shape. Hoping he can give me some pointers in addition to what I am picking up on the web.
Thanks for the tip Cake, I've checked out the Royles website and they are only just over an hour from me.
I think I may have a little trip out with the plastic , it's probably going to be expensive, i need a wet suit and a bike. Flippin heck!! I'll have no excuses then
Plodder just remember you will be able to get some right nice cheap wetsuits once everyone flog’s off this years ex-hire suits. I’d sit back and wait for the bargains. They are not cheap and all that.
Good point. Worth waiting a month or so for the wet suit. I'll ask them in the store about when best to come back for an ex-hire suit.
I am going to get a bike though, and as a novice, I want some good advice. I'm clueless. I love my Specialized hybrid and it's done me proud, but I think it's time to get a proper bike, if I'm serious about this tri malarky
Plodder what was the Ulverston tri like and how did you get on.I am always on a low budget for buying kit,I got my bike off Winstanley bikes on the net.Really happy with my bike so far.
Roof if you stay around on these sites for to long, they begin to brainwash you.Sooner or later you might just start to think,I can do that.Running up Helvellyn is for crazy people

Pebble - cool video, very inspirational
Well done spongecake - good effort!
Fancy that for 2012 - something to aim for in my 40th year
I have sent the link to my missus - reply was "you are off your head if you think i'm doing that" - wimp!
I'm off to find some hills........................
I've walked Helvellyn many times and maybe because of that, this event just really appeals to me.
Wonder how many more "mid life" crisis guys and girls might join in?
I ache like a ******** after a sprint triathlon, this could finish me off.

Well done for Ulverston Plodder, sounds like you had great weather for your tri.
Crux,It truly is a great race but it makes you walk funny for days after.
I nearly came last this year and dont know of a cut off time. However they were clearing away when I finished.

Not going to do one of those silly Ironman things - thats for crazy people

I went out last night for a run around Sywell Res, blowing a bloody gale, only person for miles and I thought then I am turning into a crazy person.
When i say run, I mean run/jog/walk!
