It was basically a battle against the elements. The pool swim was fine, 400m, no probs there.
But once you got out on the bike, bloody hell, it was windy !!!
It was an out and back course and in the final few miles to the turning point, we were riding straight into the wind. As an idea, it took me 53 mins to get to the turning point and 19 minutes to get back "wind assisted".
The run was along trail and beach, but was cut short due to high tides, so was only 4miles. I was treated to torrential rain during the run, I think I was wetter then when I got out of the pool
Overall, it was a really nice event, about 150 ish completed it (and yes I am on the last page of the results ). very friendly and well organised. I would recommend it.
Cake, I have always wanted to be a Pirate.............crazy people
Mate there is a lot of rubbish talked sometimes about what the pirate ship is. It’s a way to help folks do an ironman nothing more or less a lot of the folks who wear the kit through I fantastic people. If you want to play in the sandpit go for it. Like the other cake don’t have much cash for kit and not exactly going to win a gold medal. It doesn’t matter, believe you can do it and set yourself a goal and it will happen. If you need a kick up the bum everybody else can help when able to.
Cheers Cake, i will be in touch weekly for a kick up the bum
The Gimp part of my name comes from being a "Geriatric Incontinent Mountain Pursuit Specialist" aka GIMPs - like minded bunch of friends who should know better - but i am the only one who does the tri thing - the others throw themselves down mountains on various bikes; so any help, advice and ass kicking is gratefully received.
