I'm busy with the Santa Dash at the moment!! The BIGGEST FESTIVE FUN RUN IN THE WORLD doesn't promote much discussion amongst 'serious' runners. Although we are flying in the REAL Santa by helicopter (courtesy of Herbert, Liverpool's most famous hairdresser!!) to land at the Pier Head. He's bringing the World Santa Challenge trophy to present to Liverpool Santas for winning the title last year.
I'll pick up discussion about HM once SD has happened.
Alan, (forces self not to talk about energy drinks or gels or price of entry or ipods) err...you alright mate?
Will definately be entering next year as my only 'road race at marathon distance' as a promise is a promise. Although I did do a 30 mile race last Saturday in North Yorkshire, almost 7 and a half hours of mud, hills and beautiful scenery, brilliant experience and definately got the bug for trail running and looking for more longer distances as they do suit my pace.
Scouse Elvis, glad to hear you enjoyed trail running as I too prefer it to road running. There are some fab trail marathons and ultras down here in the South if ever you head this way.
Alan, excellent news and I'm sure you'll get even more entries than last year. Just finalising my marathon schedule for 2012 before I put my entry in
All is well at Marathon H.Q! Will be focusing on Half Marathon after the Santa Dash and continually working on the marathon behind the scenes. I will of course keep you advised as to developments.
RFC, what a great review! I was with you all the way, every step. Felt like I'd run it myself which in a way I have but I haven't. You know what I mean...
thanks lfc & Alan! with such a nice comment from the Boss himself, then I'm a pretty happy chappy.
you even got to go to the pub (sort of).. in the mental/ virtual sense.
Hope you liked my chilled out happy no headphones required running.. Liverbird would be happy.
Really grateful for all your efforts, without which I would be a lot heavier and more unhealthy. I'm sure I owe you a proper beer.
Feel free to copy around or quote to convince people about the Liverpool Marathon, its atmosphere and overall wonderfulness. You should be very proud of your achievements this year.
FRC - I'm happy with my work in recent years and not just 2011 although this year has to be the best. We created the Santa Dash and that has proved a big success, brought back the Tunnel 10K and that is as popular as it has ever been, saved the Half Marathon from disappearing altogether in 2007 and established the marathon as a flagship race.
I just wish there was some appreciation from the Local Authority for the work we do.
Well if you ever need any representatives / references with the councils, you've got my details. We met at the workshops (you met thousands I know) and did say to me how doing a marathon would be a huge achievement and also very emotional / euphoric. No truer words spoken.
I've only done Liverpool events & nearby ones, without yours & your teams efforts I would not be like I am now.
2011 was meant to be the councils big year of wellnews or whatever it was.
Nice blog FRC, brought it back to me again, (but I got to enjoy the sights and the sounds of the marathon for an hour and ten minutes more than you Yes I'm doing more trails and the running club with cross country runs so I can't wait to run next years marathon at around an hour faster than this year!
Looking forward to the Half as well for my first PB of the year!
Hi I was looking for a marathon to run this would be my first one, what was it like, and is it true it went through the tunnel, also what was the parking like,
I'm in Santa Dash mode at the moment and being kept busy!! HM is going well and have cleared 2,000 entries so far. Limit of 8,000 this year so a quarter gone and were still in November!
I'm working on the Top Secret Marathon Improvement Plan for next year. No rest for me I'm afraid.
It's a good one with support and well organised there are some slight hills in it bit nothing that is scary. For a first one up north there is this one and nottingham that I'd say a cool for a newbie and liverpool has more support for the later stages mate. You will enjoy it.
I've been here all day LB.....just too scared to make a noise in case it resulted in me coughing!!
FRC......I've checked (then double checked coz I get confused with this sort of thing)....but 14/10/2012 is more than 10 months away!!! Thank goodness....thought I was behind on my training!!
10 months away and our first planing meeting is next week!! Looking at the Half Marathon at the same time to see if it is practical to move the start / finish and also reviewing the proposed 'Festival of Running ' for the weekend 5th / 6th May.

Its does have mentions & thanks for lots of people on here, and has a nice feel good ending.
for those I don't talk to on FaceBook, 2 weeks ago I knocked 3m 30s off my half marathon time at Lancaster..
now 1hr 36m 30s. that marathon effect is still happening...
thanks lfc & Alan! with such a nice comment from the Boss himself, then I'm a pretty happy chappy.

Hi I was looking for a marathon to run this would be my first one, what was it like, and is it true it went through the tunnel, also what was the parking like,
See my blog above for what it was like, even a video of the tunnel
There is also the runners world rating.
It's a good one to start with, Lots of support, great views & atmosphere
Also great support group on here, one of THE most active threads, which really helps.
Alan the race organiser is on here too
The parking is city centre parking, loads of it around, not the cheapest but like I said it's the city centre.
I'll echo what FRC said, great first one, not the flattest, but overall pretty good running.
I'm working on the Top Secret Marathon Improvement Plan for next year. No rest for me I'm afraid.
Welcome on board Ryan.

Did you all get wet doing the Santa Dash yesterday?
It's like 9 months to go
Hi Redhead
I've been here all day LB.....just too scared to make a noise in case it resulted in me coughing!!
FRC......I've checked (then double checked coz I get confused with this sort of thing)....but 14/10/2012 is more than 10 months away!!! Thank goodness....thought I was behind on my training!!
I might be quiet but always busy!!
Alan what would the festival of running involve? there are quite a few Halfs and full marathons around that date so might be a issue?
Oh and LB
