I went for 7 miles this morning at 6am. Far better running conditions.

How the other half live....
I spend my work days looking at very old buildings. In this hot weather the roof spaces can be ridiculously hot. Outdoor air temp today hit 30 celsius, and probably more in the areas with reflective heat off the stone facades. In the roof I was in today I measured it at 46 celsius.. (thats 114F in old money!).
Badwater is running right now through Death Valley and those people are running 135 miles in outdoor temps in the late 40's celsius.
I know it's a crazy challenge but I intend to do that run as soon as I can - maybe next year as a solo adventure. I can't explain why it appeals to me.. it is surely one of the toughest foot races ever...
On the boat home again, after a long but ok day! Naoim's eyesight has, for the first time, not deteriorated any further. Alannah has been given news we were told would never happen in that she has to try normal lenses for 6 months!! This is a big thing in that hopefully the nerves from her eyes to her brain are now functioning and meaning that she may not need the specialist tests and glasses anymore?? Further tests in January.

Dannirr -- I think morning runs are usually the best option, too. Tried to run 5 miles today at lunch, temp around 30 C. I only managed 4. I know the heat makes things much worse, but I'm at the point where I wonder how in the world I ever managed to run a marathon.

That is now referred to affectionately as 'the hot one'.
DV - Agree with LA, not pleasant may be understating it somewhat! Hopefully Athens and the summer we're having will help prepare me for a possible 2007 year in 2013.
My physio told me not to run my 10k on Saturday. My weird feet have caused my ITB issues that need podiatrist intervention to fix, otherwise I'm taking chances. Great!
I would just like to point out that in the week before I relocated from Australia, the temperatures were 40.6 degrees celsius....
Wohlf: Good luck with the podiatrist - I think there's been a general trend in the past few years to prescribe orthotics for every possible running-related ill. You know your body best - what chances do they think you're taking? Permanent damage? Re-injury?
I have it on good authority that the last ITLR runner for the day is about to come into the campsite. I think it might be Weedy and RR. There needs to be bicycle maintenance, route planning and charging of equipment before said authority will get to sleep...
I had a good 18km MLR. I even did it at the pace P&D suggested. That's twice in one day I've done what I was told. This will ruin my reputation.

Oh I dunno....I reckon her reputation is hanging by a thread as it is....
If our reputations are made by our associations, she's doomed already.

Breakfast report first - none so far
RR and I landed back at camp at about 11pm last night. I was asleep by about 11.01pm. RR had a hilly section to do, but by then the heat had eased off. I took over from her and managed an easier bit. One driver wound his window down and shouted something, which apparently translated as "Are you normal?" The way things work out with runners out on the road, leaving camp early and arriving late, I haven't seen Iain since lunchtime Monday, but I heard he had stomach upset, so he's on a rest day today.
Today's order of play...
HS - 7.40am to 8.45am
TD - 11.48am to 1.11pm
RR - 1.11pm to 2.24pm
Emmy - 2.24pm to 3.13pm
Me - 3.13pm to 4.44pm
The campsite we're currently at is four star rated. On the evidence I've seen so far, I suspect the Czech Republic star rating system goes up to 100

Wohlf.. podiatrists will most likely recommend an orthotic in your running shoes. I guess that is how they make their money. I used them for 7 years and they claimed to fix one problem, but they created more. I stopped using them last August and have had no problems since...
Go and get the advice, but think twice if the answer is to make an orthotic for you.
The husband of a friend of Mrs DV is a podiatrist and I questionned him about this practice.... he had nothing to say and no defence.
Day 3 and we're settling into a routine. I'm mainlining crunchy nut cornflakes, Emmy's terrifying small children with her minibus driving, Iain's doing battlefield surgery with my penknife. Onwards and upwards!
ITLR - I think Weedy has already finished the breakfast for the week. He's a cereal killer. Hope Iain is ok. Great running everyone, good luck for today.
DV - how would you prepare for Badwater ? Saunas, running with many layers. What else is on your bucket list or do you decide one race at a time. Rather you than me.

Jolly hot LT session for me at 7 am...but I found the pace easier than I did last week so we're getting there.
I suppose I should be pleased you think I have a reputation to begin with...
I thought I'd be exhausted after 18km yesterday on the back of a similar distance on Sunday. But I'm not. I feel great. Perhaps there's something to this running lark after all. Off to do a yoga session with the instruction who is a sadistic human pretzel. That'll bring me down a peg or two!
Weedy: You can probably blame me for the campsite selection. I assisted with a little scoping exercise a few weeks back. I did try to find nice ones!
So much going on here... hard to keep up with it all... you guys are doing really well.
"Nice" is *such* a subjective word....
In the circumstances, I suspect it may also be a relative concept.
DV: I wish I understood what inspires you to want to do Badwater. I'm in awe.

I had a less impressive, but equally satisfying Fartlek session today - on the treadmill which made keeping the pace right much easier from a brain point of view.
