the strides are great - a 10k walk, you can do it as fast or slow as you like( you could even run it) and you can take family and friends along and have nice day out in the park - picnic after!
But best of all its raising the profile of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all proceeds go to work in prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
you can enter on the day or ring either the hotline 0845 602 1940 or email strideforlife@cancer.org.uk - you could also ring the Manchester office of Cancer ResearchUk - Ill find you the number if you want.
Its £6 in advance or £10 on the day - you could circulate your sponsor form on this forum too!
( I don't work for CRUK - honest!)
thanks for your reply on my walking thread I live in Altrincham by the way
has anyone come across any good sports bras that are not like corsets?
I like to wear crop top style bras all the time but I'm a strange shape 40 A/B (I'm tall with abroad back !!!)
Most larger sized bras dont have smaller cup sizes and I get strange looks in M&S. I dont really like industrial crop tops or lacy - so I'm a bit stuck and what I've got is getting a bit grey!
if folk cant enter the stride for life - but would like to do something to support breast cancer awareness - why not give the entry fee (6/10quid) as sponsorship or a pledge?
Bune, a while back I set up a thread for 'sports bras' and I think the overall winner was The Enell sports bra.. which I can personally vouch for! They're quite pricey - about £36.. but well worth it.. they look a bit like a corset though! Anyway, I bought mine online at www.lessbounce.com. Good Luck! (at least this has pushed this posting back to the top eh??!!) Michelle x
Jane Tomlinson is a Lady with terminal cancer (I always spell it with a small 'c' just so it doesn't get to think its bigger than we are) who has run the London Marathon, the London Triathlon and the GNR this year. She's even put off having Chemo (spelt with a big C cos its bigger than cancer)to raise awareness. She did 1:50 for the GNR by the way which ain't a bad time at all considering how congested the GNR gets at the start.
I work at the BurJuman Centre in Dubai (www.burjuman.com)and during the month of October we put on a special promotion for Breast Cancer awareness called 'Safe and sound' which displays information about checking your breasts, a clinic is set up, fund-raising boxes and leaflets are everywhere and breast cancer awareness is heightened in general. The whole place is pink and we all wear the pink ribbons.
On a similar note, I think that regular pap smears should be promoted as well. As a person who had a cancer scare in this area I think it is essential that ladies go regularly for a smear test (every one - two years). I've got mine today (down to yearly now) and I'm so nervous. Always scared that I might have to go through it all again. Fingers crossed. And Cath, you are an inspiration to us all. Through your troubles you remain upbeat. I don't know if I would be so strong.
