When I first started running I used to curse the fact that from my house you couldn't run more than a mile anywhere without having to run up hill after that first mile.
I still curse it, BUT it does you good to think that it helps.
Only one hill to worry about, depending on which direction we're running in.
The meeting point is at the top of "That fu**ing hill" aka the Col de Broomfield (not my naming but good). If we're going clockwise then we'll be going away from it and down the other (less steep but longer) hill with Kingston gate at the bottom, leaving the Col de Broomfield for halfway and right at the end.
If we're going anti-clockwise we'll run down the Col de Broomfield to start, past Robin Hood gate and Roehampton gate and encounter the hill after Kingston gate at around mile 5 ?
Either way hills are good for you so learn to love them ;-)
I expect its just me Percy! No its OK I get it now, the bit about half way and right at the end that is. I was picturing a moving hill. I didn't realise that was the meet up point. I didn't realise it was such an early start either. Should have paid more attention to the small print when I signed up.
Percy, I love them just as long as they're little.
I'm hoping that if we start clockwise from col de Broomfield that'll give me more than enough time to warm up for the hill at the end of the 1st cycle, then I can just crawl up it during the final lap.
I've said i'm going to do this the last two years and both times i got wasted with mates the night before and miss it... so this year i'm not doing it <reverse psychology approach to running>
Meet at Broomfield Hill car park, 7.30am for an 8.00 start. The car park is near the Isabella Plantation and the nearest park entrance is Kingston Gate (bear right) (NB Robin Hood Gate is closed)
You're staying in Kew overnight KK aren't you? If so, enter the park via Sheen or Richmond gates and follow the road round inside the park to meeting point.
I have the great fun of coming in from Islington, and given that I don't like tubes I will be attempting the journey via bus!! Has anyone got any idea of any of the buses I will need to get, not even sure if they run at silly'o'clock in the morning???
I'll be in the sub 4.30 group and am really looking foward to having some company to take my mind of the miles!
The transport for london web site has an excellent journey planner where you can specify the type of transport you wish to use but if you don't mind the train you can get a train from Islington to Barnes and then get a bus from there.
You want to be aiming for a bus that goes down Kingston hill for either the Robinhood or Kingston Gates.
I wouldn't even think that they would notice. I may be wrong, but surely they don't check EVERY single name that should be in each different group?? I would personally just go in whichever group you will feel most comfortable with!

perhaps i will stay in bed
Hills are good for ya, you'll be grateful for em on Marathon day I'm sure!
I still curse it, BUT it does you good to think that it helps.
Thanks Mike, don't think that hill is so scary.

What road is Kingston Gate off?
Kingston Gate is in the far south west corner of the park at the end of Queens Road.
Perhaps someone can confirm this?

Thanks for the help.
I'll be trundling around with the get you round group.
As for the road to Kingston gate,
Come off the A3 at the Robin hood roundabout and head down kingston hill.
Just after the hospital turn off and just before the traffic lights turn right between a pub and oddbins.
The park is at the end of this road.
Turn Right for the isabella plantion carpark.

Stoopid question, but do we get any details of this run through the post before the dreaded day, or just turn up at the park and join the pack?!
Lindy.
